The staff did a great job of accommodating for a vegetarian Celiac. The staff was knowledgeable and I felt very safe that my food would be gluten free. These were the best fajitas I’ve ever had and I did not get sick! The drinks were delicious too! They do not have a dedicated fryer.
A must for anyone with celiac. !!
I’m not sure what new information I can add that the other posts haven’t already covered. We had the fajitas and the margarita flight, both were very good, and the service was extremely friendly. Definitely eat her, if you get the chance
Staff was very knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. Made a burrito special with corn tortilla. Had good knowledge of what did/didn’t contain gluten.
Very, very, very GLUTEN FREE and allergy conscious. The owner's daughter is strictly GF so he and the entire staff are very well trained. They are aware of all cross-contamination risks (they have very few risks) and aware of all of gluten's sneaky hiding spots. On the phone the waitress informed me that I could not have the house margaritas, I would need to order a separately made margarita. While we were there at the restaurant the waitress ensured that all of my food safe. Our gluten sniffing dog even approved all of the foods. This restaurant is "Max Approved." I ate safely and did not have any GI reaction. I hope this owner opens 10 more restaurants in Puerto Rico!
We took an Uber in rush hour with a toddler in a car seat to this place and let me tell you it was worth it. Cozy and friendly place with kick ass margaritas. We had no problems ordering gluten free. The sopas were a delicious appetizer. They are big (3) and my husband ordered the taco variety plate (we could have shared! 5 tacos full of meat) and I had the enchiladas yum. The baby had chicken fingers and fries that we were told not GF. We also met the owner who gave us his card and said if we have any questions while in PR to call him. So nice!
My favorite place to eat in PR!!! The Fajitas and Nachos are the best I've ever had! the only thing the offer that is not gluten free are the flour tortillas and they are kept separate from everything else. The owner spoke to us after our first visit. He is super friendly. His daughter has to eat gluten free and that is why he opened the restaurant! Definitely stop in if you are in the area!!!!
Loved this place! You don't even need to ask for a separate gluten free menu since their restaurant is gf. I met the owner and he said he wanted a place for his gf daughter to go and not have to worry about the food. I went twice while I was visiting in PR. My friend who is not gf requested to go back since she loved it so much. Great place!
Please note: They have moved...they are still on Isla Verde, but the nearest cross street is Neptuna. If i remember correctly, everything here is GF. I had the most amazing ceviche...it was phenomenal! I have been dreaming of it ever since! The service was also very good. Highly recommend!
Everything on menu is gluten free, the owners daughter is gluten free, they are working on desserts , amazing food and great service !!!
The bar tender who greeted us was pleasant but not overly friendly. My server was very very nice. She was aware of gluten allergies but had to check to see if the meal I ordered was gluten free. I ordered the fajitas with corn tortillas and did not get get sick. The food was DELICIOUS!!! The restaurant was clean and bright. Restrooms were clean and they even had a parking lot. That being said, the restaurant was uncomfortably cold from a massive ac unit in the front wall. I was served a glass of ice water with a deal flea in it. I suppose that could happen in any places ice machine but ick. And it was very pricey. 2 entrees and 2 margaritas set us back 80 bucks. But like I said, I didn't get sick and the food was good. Minus the bug I said it was a good visit- I would probably be willing to go back.
I just went there with my family and not only was the service great, but the owner was so knowledgeable about gluten and contamination bc of his daughter. I have additional allergies which always complicates eating out for me, but he listened and asked about my allergies without complaint. I'm allergic to almonds, tomato, avocado, bananas in addition to being gluten free etc :( It means so much to me to not feel embarrassed about bothering people with food questions. He made sure that my meal fit my needs and tailored a dish for me that was absolutely delicious. I can't speak highly enough about them. I will absolutely return and recommend them to anyone who needs a strict gluten free diet and anyone who has additional allergies like me.
Excellent service!!!! Aware of cross contamination...Family oriented.
Delicious! About everything on the menu is GF. I'm a Celiac and didn't get sick. The owner has a daughter who is GF and told me about how they prevent cross contamination. Great to hear!
90 plus % gluten free, they even have a gluten/casein free pancake for children on their Brunch Menu. If you are looking for gluten free, this is the place. They don't do cross contamination in any way.
Very knowledgable. The owners daughter is gluten free, so I felt safe. They accidentally put sauce on my tacos that is not gluten free (there are only one or two items that are not) and the waitress quickly identified the sauce and asked the cook to make a new one. We got the nachos and the taco sampler. Fish taco was my favorite. The fish is fried with corn flour! Love!
GREAT service, GREAT personality! Really good food - try the tacos...yum, yum!!!
My family spent a week in Puerto Rico and we ate at TOMATE twice! The complimentary chips and salsa were awesome, but the mahi mahi ceviche was the best! I think there were only two items on the menu that were not GF. My family and I tried as many selections as we could during our two visits, and we thought the prices were very reasonable. Our servers were friendly and attentive and we even met the owner, Felipe Cervantes!
amazing food for a low price (compared to many other places). staff was welcoming and the food was delicious and unlike anything ive had (being from Wisconsin). and almost everything was gluten free. definatly going again
'Everything on the menu is gluten free". All dishes served with corn tortilla. If you want wheat flour tortilla you have to ask! :) Good food. On expensive side, but confidence in gf was worth it. Also, very accommodating to English speaking gf customer.
Menu is 98% gluten free. Ask for Melissa. Felt comfortable bringing my two daughters with celiac disease. While on vacation it was a good option to go out to eat.
The owner's daughter is gluten free so they really grasp and embrace the concept. 90% of the menu is gluten free (they cook more with corn than flour). They food is great!!!
