I don’t even know where to begin with this restaurant! 95% of their menu is gf and everything can be served with corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were honestly the best I’ve had they didn’t break apart at all! I got fajitas. I am low fodmap and they allowed me to do all peppers no onions. It was so fresh and delicious! Minimal seasoning which was helpful for me food wise but so yummy! The margaritas were unbelievable. The server we had was so kind and helpful he checked In on us multiple times. We will absolutely be coming back! I felt so safe eating here and did not get sick!

Spectacular. The menu is 95% gluten free, so all of the people in our party who are gluten free felt safe eating here. Our server was particularly attentive to the one of us who is celiac and made sure our entire order was celiac safe. On top of that, the food was delicious—quite possibly the best enchiladas I have ever had! We ended the evening with a fried cheesecake that was out of this world. You will not be disappointed if you go.

Had an amazing experience here. Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free. Our server was very knowledgeable. Ended up going here twice because it was so good and felt safe eating here.

We ate here based on reviews on this app. I’d say our experience was so-so. I think ultimately it was ok but menu NOT marked and staff not entirely knowledgeable about what was/was not GF. The one thing to note is that their menu is mainly GF and so likelihood of cross contamination is low and we felt ultimately safeto eat most things. 2 celiacs in the family.

Everybody here was very friendly and helpful. The waitress went out of her way to explain all of our gluten-free options and make sure we were comfortable. The food was amazing. We loved it so much, we went back one last time before we left. The owner came over to check to make sure everything was good.

Tomate was disgusting and extremely disappointing given the large number of good reviews. The server had absolutely no clue about anything GF. They went back and asked the kitchen questions and the kitchen basically said everything in the fryer is contaminated. They were kind enough to pan fry some tortillas for me to eat with queso and shrimp, but the queso was so greasy I couldn't finish it. And the margaritas were awful...honestly one of the worst I've ever had. No idea why this place had good reviews. My dining companion didn't even drink her margarita it was so bad. No one else bothered ordering food after seeing the queso situation.

I’m so happy I found this place! As we’ve traveled to places outside of the San Juan area, finding gluten free options definitely got harder, so coming back from a day trip and eating a full meal here was incredible. Pretty much everything except for the burritos can be made gluten free except for the burritos. Our server spoke English very well and was incredibly knowledgeable and kind when answering my questions. The chips are cooked to order and fried in a dedicated fryer, and all gluten free orders are cooked in a separate pan. The food was absolutely delicious! The margaritas were also very good and the flavored margaritas are flavored using fresh squeezed juices rather so they were all gluten free, which was such a treat! We tried the watermelon jalapeño and the sour sop margs and had absolutely no regrets. Would highly recommend!

We have gone here twice this week and will probably return. The food is good and they understand gluten free. We had one server who was unsure but the restaurant understands and takes measures to avoid cross contamination. We had tacos, mole, and chips. Very friendly and patient with our questions. Highly recommend!! Call ahead to be sure they are open, the hours seem to change.

Eating GF In Puerto Rico has definitely been challenging but this will be my “go to” for the rest of my trip! It was really great food, the margs were phenomenal! Our waiter Jose knew right away what was safe for me and what wasn’t. He even recommended his favorite dishes.

The menu here says that “95% of the menu is GF”, personally I’m not sure if that is really true. My group ordered the nachos and I asked if they had a separate frier and the waiter said “yes, it’s ok” when I pushed back he said “sometimes we change the oil” I realized he probably didn’t understand what I was asking. The group still ordered it and I had some nachos. They were good but the chips are extremely greasy. I didn’t feel great the next day but am unsure if it was because it was gluten or all the grease. for dinner I had enchiladas which weren’t fried and had corn tortillas so I felt like those were a safe order. I do believe most of the food is naturally gluten free but I’m not confident about the frier

When we get there I told the waiter what is my situation with the food (gluten, dairy peoduct, egg, chicken….ect) and he went to the kitchen to make sure everything is doable A few minutes later the chef came out and talk true what can I have and what does she thinks I can have and is it ok I told yes Super kind and nice experience, highly recommended

I had the weirdest experience here. On the menu there is a giant advertisement that 95% of their menu is gluten free. They even advertise the find me gluten free app on the menu. However, when I went to order the waiter told me that everything had cross contamination and that nothing was safe. Unsure if the server just didn’t understand or if there is a real risk for cross contamination. We ended up leaving and not risking it.

We found Tomate on the Gluten Free app and are not at all dissatisfied. Gina, the owner, and her staff went out of their way to be especially nice to our family, and frankly, everyone that was dining. As for the culinary delights, only one word … AMAZING! The authenticity of the Mexican food was spot on. Hands down the best queso and guacamole that we have ever consumed. Very reasonably priced. We will absolutely come here again!

What a wonderful location!! Thanks to all the reviews we stopped in for dinner. We are so glad we did. Their menus on the bottom highlight that most of their menu is or can be made gluten free. The food was FANTASTIC. The wait staff talked to,us about our food and confirmed all to be gluten free. They were busy and short staffed but we were on vacation time so we relaxed and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We will be going back for dinner again before we leave!!!!!

The food was delicious. Our server Andi was very knowledgeable about what was gf (almost the entire menu) and said the owner’s daughter was gluten free so they understood about cross contamination. They took the gf orders separately, so they would be cooked separately and served separately. Such a great find!

They don't h gave a gluten free menu but we settled on a soup - chicken. It was very tasty. Service was less than desirable. We have been waiting over an hour and my son got his soup probably 15 minutes ago and we have yet to get anything else. So frustrating.

Best food ever. The restaurant is great. 95% gluten free. The whole family actually found something gluten free and we could all share food for the first time. I was a great time. Def. From the staff to owner... thank you for my family s first meal in p.r.
Excellent food and service every time. Loads of gluten free options and staff are very aware. Can’t go wrong.
Yes
Excellent service! We had Adriana who was very friendly. Many gluten free options. Food was great.
Everything but three things are gf. Great place to try. Server was very knowledgeable. Great Mexican food.

My wife and I ate here tonight, and it was fantastic. One note - the flour tortillas (obviously), mole sauce, and the chorizo are NOT GF. We had the queso fundido and taco sampler, and the margarita flight. Wonderful food. Met Felipe (owner) afterwards, and we chatted for quite awhile, and he is very knowledgeable, and as mentioned, has a daughter that has to eat GF (but does not have Celiac’s). It’s too bad we’re leaving tomorrow morning, or we’d be eating there again.
Yes
I had a gluten reaction after being told that the tqcos were gluten free.
No
Yum!! Hubby and I did the margarita flight and I had chicken enchiladas with the green sauce. Mole sauce is not gf.
The food was awesome! I had the enchiladas in a corn tortilla shell with rice and beans and both sauces! It was delicious! The homemade salsas were ridiculously good! Service was slow as they were busy but would make a trip out here for sure!

Awesome place. I felt like we were in a community place. The waitress’ were very knowledgeable and brought my plate out separately. I tested my food with my Nima sensor and it came back gluten free! We would go again.

Already been here twice. Planning on going back a third time. This place is amazing for food allergies. The owner is extremely nice and his daughter is gf. He was so nice as to offer that if we had any trouble with telling other restaurants that I was gf and asking what was safe to eat that I could call him and he would talk to them! The fajitas are killer and so is the gf guava margarita!
The staff did a great job of accommodating for a vegetarian Celiac. The staff was knowledgeable and I felt very safe that my food would be gluten free. These were the best fajitas I’ve ever had and I did not get sick! The drinks were delicious too! They do not have a dedicated fryer.
Yes
A must for anyone with celiac. !!

I’m not sure what new information I can add that the other posts haven’t already covered. We had the fajitas and the margarita flight, both were very good, and the service was extremely friendly. Definitely eat her, if you get the chance

Staff was very knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. Made a burrito special with corn tortilla. Had good knowledge of what did/didn’t contain gluten.
Yes
Very, very, very GLUTEN FREE and allergy conscious. The owner's daughter is strictly GF so he and the entire staff are very well trained. They are aware of all cross-contamination risks (they have very few risks) and aware of all of gluten's sneaky hiding spots. On the phone the waitress informed me that I could not have the house margaritas, I would need to order a separately made margarita. While we were there at the restaurant the waitress ensured that all of my food safe. Our gluten sniffing dog even approved all of the foods. This restaurant is "Max Approved." I ate safely and did not have any GI reaction. I hope this owner opens 10 more restaurants in Puerto Rico!

We took an Uber in rush hour with a toddler in a car seat to this place and let me tell you it was worth it. Cozy and friendly place with kick ass margaritas. We had no problems ordering gluten free. The sopas were a delicious appetizer. They are big (3) and my husband ordered the taco variety plate (we could have shared! 5 tacos full of meat) and I had the enchiladas yum. The baby had chicken fingers and fries that we were told not GF. We also met the owner who gave us his card and said if we have any questions while in PR to call him. So nice!
Yes
My favorite place to eat in PR!!! The Fajitas and Nachos are the best I've ever had! the only thing the offer that is not gluten free are the flour tortillas and they are kept separate from everything else. The owner spoke to us after our first visit. He is super friendly. His daughter has to eat gluten free and that is why he opened the restaurant! Definitely stop in if you are in the area!!!!
