I am sorry to have to report this, have been satisfied in the past but recently came in, ordered 2 meals labeled Gluten Free. My wife is a sensitive celiac and we have a totally gluten free house. When my wife’s meal came there was supposed to be red potatoes that were not there. Asked waiter where red potatoes were and he said he made an executive decision, the red skin potatoes had gluten so he had them removed. 1) WHY WOULD A GLUTEN FREE MEAL HAVE ANYTHING WITH GLUTEN. 2) Did they remove potatoes and not clean plate? If so my wife still had enough to make her sick, which it did. Called manager and he asked what we ordered, checked with the chef who said it was Gluten free except the red skin potatoes. As I mentioned we had been before without a problem, but not worth the risk of my wife’s health. Manager offered me a Gift Card, but how could we go back after she spent night over the toilet.
Service was excellent. I ordered the king crab with mashed potatoes and veggies with oysters on the side. It typically comes with baked potato but since the potato would go in a shared space the waiter alerted me to that and recommended the mashed, which are safely prepared.
The waiter knew exactly what Celiac was and proactively laid out the precautions that he, the manager, and the kitchen take to ensure no cross contamination occurs. Tom's Oyster Bar and Ale Mary's are also owned and operated adjacent to one another so the drink and GF menus are shared, and if you need a strict GF menu they can bring the one over from Ale Mary's.
All GF food is prepped in a dedicated space and has its own utensils and cookware. They even make sure the alcohols offered for mixed drinks are safe. A very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
