Review of Toro Kitchen And Bar Queenstown

Went here today & asked for gluten free eggs & bacon option from breakfast menu. The menu stated most meals were gluten free so thought we were on to a winner. Reiterated it needed to be gluten free. They had already come back & said couldn’t do gf iced chocolate so thought they must have known what they were talking about. Meal arrived, asked the server (middle aged man who looked like owner/manager, he hadn’t initially taken our order so double checking with him) if it was coeliac safe, he gave the usual..it’s as safe as it can be reply, my daughter then said I am coeliac to the man, he didn’t look alarmed so she ate her breakfast. On paying I decided to check again with a third staff member, too late I know but did it anyway. She was great, wish I spoke to her first as we wouldn’t have eaten there! Now I’m worried...the hash browns are cooked in a fryer that is cleaned out each night so should be free from cross contamination if you eat there in the morning but on checking with the chef it wasn’t cleaned out last night!!! Also the bacon is cooked on same hot plate as pancakes in the morning so the woman agreed that my daughter would definitely have ingested gluten after this meal. It’s going to be her first accidental glutening so will be interesting to see her reaction to cross contamination. Long story short, this was not a coeliac safe place to eat today, we are disappointed!
