We ate at this restaurant yesterday. They have a part of their menu that list food that are gluten-free and cross contact free. They take special precautions and have a separate part of the kitchen to prepare the food. I had a BLT with an egg that was very tasty. They have a web site that list all their precautions. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.
Today, we drove to Covington to try Turgeau's. What an absolute delight!
They have a section of the menu that is called Gluten-Feee, Cross-Contact Safe. In addition to being a gluten-free celiac, I'm also dairy free. I was able to have biscuits, a lovely turkey and avocado sandwich, and a raspberry lemon oatmeal pie.
The staff is so helpful and knowledgeable.
If you are only gluten sensitive, not celiac, there are even more items available to you beyond the section pictured below.
Go check this place out as soon as possible!
UPDATE:
They’ve reduced their cross contact safe menu. My fave was the potato scramble and that’s no longer made in the safe part of the kitchen not stored in the “safe” refrigerator.
I’m so disappointed, it was one restaurant where you knew they could take care of you and now it seems it’s turning into every other restaurant and you have to watch out when you order.
Past review:
I’m medically diagnosed Celiac, and I’ve finally found a place I feel safe! I spoke with the owner and there is a separate area for Gf prep, all the Gf bread is great and doesn’t include rice flour, and their Gf baked items are celiac safe! I can’t give enough praise, I absolutely love this restaurant. If you have food allergies, intolerance or Celiac, this is your new favorite place!
We did have to create a specifically dedicated crosscontact safe menu to ensure the safety of our patrons. We can promise you, we aren’t turning into any other restaurant where you have to be careful what you order. We’re taking steps to make things more safe. You just have to order from the designated Cross-contact safe menu so that it comes out of the “SAFE” refrigerator and is cooked in the “SAFE” section. There is still flour and other allergens being used in our kitchen at times and we would hate to make anyone sick. We are a small family owned & operated restaurant, and as you stated before, we do take allergies very seriously. There are still 10-15 different items and combinations you can make on the crosscontact safe menu. We hope you are able to understand the decisions we have to make to be able to continue to run our business and be able to provide a safe eating space for all. Thank you for your feed back.
Stopped by as we were passing through town. The staff was so nice and considerate when we explained about one our children having Celiacs.
They seemed to do all the right things- giving us information about the menu and keeping things separate and best of all, my son loves his food!
I love a restaurant that gets it and tries to help others.
We went for lunch today and waited an hour and 10 minutes for our food to come out, then the kids’ food came out wrong.
Our food once we got it was ok at best.
They also no longer offer the GF poboy that we read about.
When the kids finally got their food they did enjoy it.
Bad experience for us this time.
Turgeau’s has an extensive allergen menu available, a lot of alternatives, and clearly knowledgeable staff. I would not recommend the vegan/gf pancakes as they were quite small for a meal, but I would definitely go back for something else. They weren’t doing dinner during the week I was in town, but all the gluten-eaters also enjoyed their lunches. A good selection of gluten free and vegan baked goods prepared off site in a dedicated kitchen were also available.
I would have liked to tried this restaurant, but apparently they were too “backed up” to accommodate a to go order. (I was at the restaurant in person). They cheerily told me to try again next week but I’m not from Covington and was only here for a day, so oh well. Interestingly i was looking for other gluten free options to try in my car and two larger groups went into the cafe and were seated. Be sure to have a backup plan if you plan to eat here, it seems like they may decide they won’t serve you on a whim. Zero stars.
Love this place- the owners know food allergies well as they endure them too. They take extra precaution to ensure food is prepared separately and away from all other gluten if you tell them you need it to be Celiac safe. Food is delish! We go at least once a month to enjoy their fare!
This place was amazing. If we lived in the area, I would be waiting at the door every day for them to open. The food was delicious, and they are so very careful with gluten and other allergens. They have a dedicated allergen-free area in their kitchen, including separate refrigerator, toaster oven, grill, prep area, and so forth. The staff is fully trained for dietary restriction protocols. I had the Cajun BBQ shrimp and grits and wish I had gotten three more to go! The GF bread is prepared and delivered by a dedicated GF baker. I had the quinoa Italian bread, and it was so good. They also have a full bar and allow dogs on the patio.
Northshore friends do yourself a favor…..visit Turgeau's in Covington. I have horrible food allergies, and my hubby does not. This place caters to us gluten free, and non-gluten free. If you are vegan, dairy free, allergic to eggs….whatever….they take it so serious, and flavor is not compromised whatsoever. I am now a full fledged regular, and Jason Chab houser his chorizo burrito. Best bbq shrimp and grits I’ve had . Honestly do yourselves a favor. The restaurant is owned by a spicy Latina Cali girl Rosie, and a quiet Cajun JP. Honestly they make you feel like family when you walk in the door. They outsource baked goods from a local baker who specializes in allergen baking, and it is not the typical cardboard gf bread (it’s delish!). They even have GF pop tarts y‘all! I’m in love.
Outstanding food! Very confident that all safety measures were taken. We are a medically confirmed celiac family. My kids were so relieved to know everything was safe. My son kept asking if it really was GF because it was so delicious. Service was great. Our new favorite place to eat!
Great food and very confident they keep their menu safe for gluten free. Lots of bread options for lunch and breakfast , and gluten free switches in many items. Little to no labeling on the menu, but the server was very familiar and was responsible for the allergy items and menu creation. Great option in Covington for a nice safe lunch.
Amazing food! This restaurant is dedicated to serving people with allergy friendly food. They have dedicated spaces and separate ovens and all for different allergens to avoid cross contamination. They cater to all and the food is delicious!
Tried Turgeau's today and it was amazing! They had lots of gluten free options for us! ordering is done on your phone but you have the option to click gluten allergy (and many other allergy choices) when ordering!! I had a turkey avocado sandwich today with some of the best GF bread I’ve had in a while! Also enjoyed a gf/df pecan muffins for dessert 😊
Lots of breakfast and lunch, will be returning for the gf vegan pancakes!
No pictures of my food because I was too hungry… oops!
