The safest meat to order is shrimp because it isn’t cooked on the grill. All other meats are cooked on the grill and the bread touches the same area (they grill the meat and bread right beside each other).
All salads come with an orange roll. You must ask to have it removed!! If you tell them you have an allergy / celiac, it won’t be removed or put on the side unless you ask them to remove it.
They DEFINITELY will change gloves for you and will tell the cooks you have an allergy.
These are the things you shouldn’t order if you have an allergy or celiac
- don’t order rice pilaf (chicken base isn’t GF)
- no hot cheddar pasta (Mac n cheese)
- steak, grilled chicken, grilled turkey, ham (all except for shrimp) are cooked on shared grill with breads used for sandwiches.
- all their soups have flour
- bacon is also cooked on stove
Shrimp is cooked on its own in a big green egg
The chicken salad, pimento cheese, are fine and are yummy
If you order the chicken salad and fruit plate, that comes with an orange roll so you have to ask them to remove it.
If you want dessert, their milkshakes are the best I’ve ever had and you can probably ask for just a scoop of ice cream if you want.
Meals I’ve ordered and liked that are definitely FOR SURE safe for someone with celiac (ask to change gloves)
* Pepper patch salad + shrimp (no roll)
* Berry Good salad + chicken salad / pimento (no roll)
*local mix salad (removed bacon) + shrimp
All salad dressings and sauces are 100% GF as well.
Usually if you call with questions, they’re more than happy to give you the info they need!

Celiac husband has been glutened here and also had similar experience as another reviewer with clearly ordering gluten free and order coming out with a roll on it. He won’t go back here!

I called to try and order for pickup over the phone. I was unable to find a gf menu online and the only mention of gf anything on the menu was a gf bun. I asked what their gluten free menu items were. At first he seemed like he had never heard the words gluten free before, which was worrisome. He then told me, after putting me on hold for a few minutes, that they do not have anything gf. If your employees don’t know what gluten free is and don’t think you have anything gf even though your menu says you have gf buns, then I do not want to eat at your restaurant. I would never eat here and I am not sure how anyone else made it out without being glutened.

My food came out with a roll on top and when I let the waitress know I couldn’t eat that, she took the food back without any complaint and brought me a brand new plate. She also assured me that they completely remade the dish, and I heard her ask the kitchen staff to change gloves when preparing it the second time.

Have gluten free menu but not many options. No gluten free bread. Salad was tasty but nothing special.
The food is good, but I wish the menu labeled what was GF. You'll need to ask the staff what your options are. The Berry Good Salad + grilled chicken or chicken salad was something I liked before having to eat GF, and is thankfully something I can still eat (just minus the orange roll that normally comes with it). I've had to send my salad back a couple times, though, when they brought it out to me with an orange roll sitting on top (the downtown Birmingham location seemed to be more cautious with my order than Homewood can be).
I had the grilled chicken with garden salad and rice. I told the cashier I had a gluten allergy and she had a sheet where she confirmed that the rice IS gluten free.

They were so knowledgeable about gluten sensitivity and celiac! They even taught me easier ways to order to ensure no cross contamination!! Also a good gluten free menu!
