My husband and I ate at Urban Rio Plano last week and we are going back next week. Highly recommend. I have a severe gluten allergy, and my husband is gluten free by preference. Denise, the manager, was SUPER attentive to us. She confirmed the dedicated fryer for ONLY gluten free things. The chips and salsa are really good, some of the best I have ever had, and I am obsessed with TexMex. The table bean dip was ok. The queso blanco is worth just going for it alone. We ordered the queso blanco and split the stuffed avocado. We were STUFFED. The stuffed avocado is extremely tasty. If you are getting tacos or anything with the cloud (crispy fried) onions, please make sure you tell them they need to be fried in the dedicated gluten free fryer. Can’t wait to go back, TONS of gluten free on their menu!

The food is just okay to be honest BUT they do have a dedicate chip fryer which is a nice change from most places. Their margaritas are great! And if you go upstairs to the cantina there is often live music!

Best chips and salsa! Dedicated fryer allowed me to enjoy chicken flautas and cilantro fries! There are actually so many options I had a hard time deciding. I love this place! Server was very knowledgeable as well.

The taquitos are amazing. The chips, amazing. The queso, amazing. The drinks, amazing. The prices, amazing. We are regulars here now. I’ve never been sick eating here… except for eating too much 😂

Great experience here. The tortilla chips are fried in a dedicated fryer, the salsa and black bean dip are gluten free and they have quite a few gluten free entrees and they are plainly marked on the menu.

Our go to for Mexican! My husband is extremely sensitive celiac and has never had a reaction here. GF is clearly listed in the menu. Service is always excellent! . Highly recommend

food was pretty good, the staff seemed somewhat educated even though it took forever for the server to understand that I was asking about if the chips had a dedicated fryer

I had the queso and then the Avocado chicken dish. I got glutened here and have felt absolutely terrible for the last three days. I am a celiac sensitive to cross contaimination so I am unsure if it was a mishap with cross contaimination or straight gluten. I started feeling sick within a couple hours and haven’t felt better since.
I am not sure if it was a one off or because I ordered through the bartender but all of the reviews made me excited about gluten free mexican food. Spoke with the bartender and she knew about gluten and did say the chips were in a fryer alone. Kind of a shame because the food was yummy but I wouldnt eat there again after this experience.

I have eaten here twice and both experiences were great. Food was excellent, well portioned, and the servers demonstrated knowledge about what was safe for celiacs on the menu. Chips are in a dedicated fryer. I also found a margarita on the menu that was made with gluten free ingredients. The atmosphere is very pleasant and I feel safe eating here. Will definitely be a regular!

We have eaten here twice & both times have been great. The menu is clearly marked & they have several gluten free options to choose from. Their chips are in a dedicated fryer & they have bean dip that is served with the chips & salsa that is fantastic! Both servers have been knowledgeable about their gluten free items also.

They were quite busy but my waitress was very knowledgeable- they have a dedicated fryer so I could have the cloud onions. The portions were small but delicious and the drink specials were awesome.

I've been a customer for years. They are open late on the weekends and while upstairs can get crowded, usually downstairs stays chill. Portions are generous. Good date spot! I like to get the pork carnitas with corn tortillas (specify, default is flour). The chips, salsa, and bean dip they set on the table are gf. Also, one of the few places that has queso blanco (which is gf, worth a try).

They have a dedicated fryer for chips.
The food was absolutely delicious! I had to ask if they were sure it was gluten free.
I am celiac and I didn’t have any reaction. It was just so good it made me doubt.
We will be back!
Very good!

They have *Omission* G.F. beer and the Queso is awesome.
They have gluten free tortilla chips and a very well marked menu with gluten free and vegetarian options. The cheese dip was especially tasty. Plus tequila on tap!
Downtown Plano restaurant. The menu shows colored dots by gf with lots of choices. The flavor isn’t typical Tex/Mex smoke, but VERY flavor forward. The el pastor tacos were fabulous!

Great place to eat! Love the atmosphere. Staff was helpful. The Nate’s chicken was bland, fish tacos are delish, and the nachos were okay. We would return just for the queso alone! It was that good. Menu was marked with GF items. Homemade GF corn tortillas were very good.
Yes
I have a wheat allergy and was quite sure I could eat here, but was pleasantly surprised when the menu was labeled. That made it so much easier to order. Not sure the food was my favorite but the service, the yummy Flourless Ancho Lava cake, the wine, and atmosphere were absolutely perfect!
Roommate has Celiacs. This is a weekly stop for us. Chips are gluten free and the menu is very clear about what is gluten free!
One of my favorite places to go! Gluten free items marked on the regular menu! Almost half or more of the menu is gluten free! The stuffed avocados are amazing! I believe one of the owner’s uncles has celiac, so they are very aware!

Very knowledgeable staff. Dedicated fryer. The stuffed Avocados are amazing!!!
Yes
This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant! they have their gluten free options clearly marked (and the fajitas are as along as you specify and order corn tortillas... which are made FRESH by the way!) And we can eat the nachos too! The stuffed avocado is my favorite though. I loved this place so much I went twice in one week and I usually won't go the same place within the same month. Did I mention they have gluten free dessert? If you go, ask for Ericka to be your waitress, she's one of the best waitresses I've ever had -and I'm not easy to impress!
Dedicated gfree fryer and super conscious of cross contamination. Great food too! The waiter I had was very knowledgeable of gfree needs. Based on previous reviews that seemed to not be the case 3 years ago, so lots of improvements made. I JD the stuffed avocado and ate lots of chips and bean dip and feel great!

WARNING: I decided to give it another try tonight. I spoke to the manager who informed me that the rice is not gf, the chips are fried in same oil as empanadas so they're not gf. Even though there is a gf symbol next to the menu item does not mean it is gluten free! I ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde sauce. Sour cream sauce is not gf! I was told 3 previous visits that it is. Eat here at your own risk and be sure to ask about each and every part of every meal bc they do not look out for you. Every waiter I've had said that the meals are gf if theres a feather next to the item on the menu. They're not trained or informed at all. The most disappointing aspect of this is that it took 4 visits to get it straight! I'm not going to return, they are too irresponsible.
Previous review: I thought the food tasted great and was presented very nicely. The waiter was nice but I don't think he was well informed regarding gf menu items. His answers to my questions were very vague. I don't think he felt like checking on the specifics. I don't believe my meal was gluten free because today I am very ill. I won't return unless a manager is willing to spend some time explaining their menu and procedures in detail. What's the point of offering gluten free if staff is not well informed? It seems to be a common problem in this area.
No
With all the hype of this place, my husband and I were disappointed. The GF items look great on the menu, but we and the couple next to us thought the food was bland. We also had poor service. Great restaurant concept, but did not impress.
