The tofu as starter was delicious. As a main dish I asked several times if the duck noodles were spicy, they told me no but they were. They gave us the desserts cart and when we were ready to order they told us that the kitchen was closed, so no good service, they should ask us in advance.
This was an interesting find. It's artsy -- the owner throws ceramics and makes all their tableware as well as selling items to the public, and there's a lot of found-item decor. It's dedicated GF -- they make their own soba noodles daily from 100% buckwheat. It's expensive -- dinner for two (appetizers, noodles, tip) was about $120. If you like what they offer, it's delicious -- the tofu appetizer was unique and tasty, the root vegetable appetizer was shareable and umami with a nice crunch, and if you are a fan of soba then their noodles were amazing. If you DON'T like soba, you can probably find enough other items in the appetizers to satisfy you but you're missing the main treat.
100% gluten-free and tasty. Quite sure every dish has buckwheat in it. We split the sticky veggies (yum), neri tofu (amazing!), and crackers (nothing special). We only tried the hot bowls. The server told us the portions were small and we should each get our own. This was quite misleading—we ended up feeling full for hours afterwards and couldn’t even finish our bowls. Sadly, did not try dessert because of how heavy the soba bowls were. Pricey, but nice to have for a treat.
Embarrassingly bad service. No wait staff, wouldn’t clear our plates, didn’t get napkins or chopsticks, had to get our own drinks from the bar. Seemed very overwhelmed and disorganized. Maybe it was a bad night for them but they served salmon that was all sinew and inedible. At $72 a bowl I understand a bad night but that’s unacceptable. Gave it 2 stars for at least being celiac safe but hard pass. All hype and no follow through.
