We visited the Waffle-era Tea Room near Old San Juan. They offer gluten-free waffles that are made with a sweet plantain base. They offer both waffles with savory toppings and waffles with sweet toppings. You can even have a sandwich made out of a waffle. They also offer full portion sizes (one large round waffle with four quarters) or half a waffle. I ordered a "green eggs and ham" (egg white, green pesto and ham) half portion and an "Elvis" (sliced bananas, peanut butter, and bacon) half portion. They were delicious! I have celiac disease and should have asked about cross-contamination but did not. However, I did not feel any ill effects after my meal. The dining area was very small but the food was delicious.
