Any chance people know of chains or fast food restaurants that sell celiac safe French fries?

matthewa Chick-fil-A is the only one I’ve found because they fry their fries in a different oil than the breaded stuff.

katie89 I’ve had Chick-fil-A waffle fries for a couple years and have never gotten sick from them!

k_marie_b Agree with both of these, CFA and 5 Guys. If you go to CFA at a mall, be sure to ask. Sometimes, because of the smaller kitchen, they will fry their nuggets and fries in the same fryer.

julie7399 I see someone listed McDonald’s fries. They are NOT gluten-free. The fries are coated with a product containing gluten. Not safe for celiac’s.

kathleen8656 Thank you so much to all who commented here. My son was diagnosed with celiac disease when he was 2. He’s now 7 and just had his first fast food French fry at Five Guys thanks to your incredibly helpful responses. It was love at first bite. :)

aaronandcheryl WARNING. not all CFA have GF fries. Only certain locations across the country. You need to ask if they have a GF fryer for them. Red Robin is the same. Some have GF fryers for whole restaurant And some don’t or they have two different ones. So you need to ask when you order.

ZaCloud Penn Station Subs has gluten-free fries, very delicious & high quality. Though that's the only gluten-free thing on their menu, I sometimes get a main food elsewhere, then go grab fries from there to have with it. 😉

vp6485 We’ve had good luck at most of these, and early on, a Buffalo Wild Wings near us had a dedicated fryer for fries and tots, and a couple that were just traditional wings. Management changed, and they don’t do that now. But, if you ask, quite a few restaurants have dedicated fryers, just due to volume.

janis151365 Red Robin Restaurant has celiac safe French fries. They have a complete separate fryer dedicated to cooking gluten free. Just tell them you need to eat gluten free and for them to be sure the kitchen knows. Usually a manager brings your food to the table and assures you it was cooked in the gluten free fryer.

  • profile picture thumbnail

sb391 it's been a controversial thing lately with fries that are supposed to be safe testing for gluten or containing forms of gluten that can't be found with the usual tests. Wendy's, McDonald's, and more are caught up.
