Pepperoni Gluten Free Pizza

Reviews

  • It was good-too good and I did get sick. The ingredient label lists wheat starch and says contains wheat but there is a disclaimer saying it was prepared to meet standards to be labeled gf. I was very sick and am now so disappointed.

I like these. They are an easy one when I’m tired.

    Symptomatic Celiac

I’ve had this twice. The first time I was completely fine and enjoyed the “fluff” of the crust. The second time I got sick and will be avoiding for now. IMPORTANT to know is that this pizza uses wheat in which the gluten protein has been removed. So theoretically it is safe for celiac but this is not certified gluten free and given that two different batches gave me two different reactions, I would assume that they don’t have a universal standard for it yet. If you’re not a celiac and allergic to wheat itself, AVOID.

Thick crust GF pizza but it is crunchy on the bottom. Usually gf pizzas are thin. This is excellent. I bought a pepperoni and a cheese at Target for 9.99 each. We haven’t tried the Cheese pizza yet. We like it! 👏🏻👏🏻

jennifer57622 Has anyone tried the new Digorno GF pizza? Apparently it has wheat but they remove the gluten. According to their website it is gluten-free and should be safe for celiacs. But it sounds too good to be true so I wanted to see if anyone has experience with it. 2 years ago

vp6485 This is different from their previous Gluten free pizzas. They say the starch is removed and rinsed to remove gluten. That sounds odd, but distillers have had enzymes for years in Brewers Clarex that they can add to remove gluten from various types of alcohol after fermentation. The enzyme literally chops gluten into smaller pieces. The jury is still out on whether or not these partial gluten strands are safe for all Celiacs, but many report good results, and I have had several with no issues. I don’t know if this is the process they use, but the commercial process has been around for quite a few years. 3 replies

lindsay72866 I just have an intolerance but I’ve had it and it’s fantastic! Shockingly so!

caseytheceliac I have celiac and I've had it a few times -- I like it! I will say, I'm not as sensitive as some.

amy183745 Something about it made me sick as a dog, but not with my usual "gluten contamination" symptoms so I'm not sure what made me sick if it wasnt the gluten. I just know I'll never buy it again!

alicia333 Love it as well! Nice to not have a cardboard crust for a change

BostonFill It also got me sick. I wouldn’t eat it again

christina5060 Red Robin's Sweet potato fries, Schars Croissans and other products are starting to slip the non-gluten ingredients in as long as it falls under 20ppm because if you do not have a test that can test 0 then it's GF if under 20ppm. I have Gluten Ataxia so just a tiny bit of poison like any autoimmune disease causes damage to my body. My threshold is 0 and causes symptoms. I have reacted to every one of these so called GF products that I got tricked into eating due to their GF claim . Learned to read all ingredients of what I eat, even if it has a claim of GF. That is how I discovered Red Robin's fries had a gluten containing coating. I asked to see the packaging for everything I had eaten there. 1 reply

l3448395 I have celiac and didn't get sick from it. However, to me it was bland and I would not get it again.

may79773 We don’t like DiGiorno’s- we didn’t like them before my husband had to be gluten-free! Most recently, we enjoyed Caulipower frozen pizza (from Aldi’s) and California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza from local grocery store.

johng461 DiGiorno is ok. Crust is too thick. Freschetta is pretty good.

anagarcia78504 I wouldn't risk it, when I crave pizza I go with Against the Grain, dedicated gluten free and it is also grain free. It is absolutely delicious, I can only eat the pesto one since I am allergic to tomato. I adding my own toppings 1/2 shrimp and 1/2 pepperoni with bacon at times. 6 replies

isabella39625 If you’re just gluten intolerant or have celiacs you can eat it… BUT if you have a wheat allergy (which some people have both) it will still make you sick.

tara_barbosa I just had this pizza on Sunday and didn’t get sick from it. I am NCGS and am able to tolerate small amounts, but felt nothing.

karina8148 I'm a pretty sensitive celiac and did not get sick. The crust is almost like a crunchier pan pizza with typical frozen pizza sauce. I think it's good for what it is. The first time I ate it was before I realized it had wheat or I wouldn't have. It's good though so I would eat it again, just not frequently.

katie_luke_sarah I am a pretty sensitive Celiac and so are my kids and we have eaten it many times with no issues.

ben44838 I’m celiac and highly sensitive and definitely had a reaction after eating. I understand their claims that it meets the FDA’s requirements of <20PPM, but then why can’t they just get it certified. In the end, I think it’s eat at your own risk.

jena25598 My kids love it, my middle child was diagnosed with Celiac over the summer and she can enjoy it with no problems.

bsmarrone I tried it as soon as it came out and it tasted great…like regular pizza crust. I have celiac and I was I’ll within 2 hours of eating it. I wrote the company and they said it complied with current standards to receive the gluten free stamp. Haven’t tried it again.

ljm Personally I would never eat anything that claims it formerly had gluten in it. I’m a super sensitive celiac and get sick even when food is below 20ppm. But that’s just me.

  • profile picture thumbnail

pattykate I am very sensitive and it doesn’t affect me. We love it!

christina775 I have severe celiac and had no problem. It’s delicious and my husband and I eat it all of the time!

angela199321 I have celiac and got very sick. I had to give away the other 2 pizza's I bought.

Tracy84 Ive tried it and I’m a super sensitive celiac. It was pretty good for a frozen pizza. I like the Freschetta gf better.

ferdburfle001 I’ve tried similar things that had wheat but were “gluten-free”. While I wasn’t sick from it (gluten intolerance) I felt that the products tasted horrible.

michael87796 in Europe There is a standardized sanitized wheat starch called Codex. It is under the 20ppm threshold but I believe still has very low amounts of gluten and considered gluten free. The possible issue with this product as I understand it is that they refuse to confirm or deny if they are using Codex or using their own process. That makes one think they aren’t using Codex plus Codex it is quite expensive. There are some people who are claiming sensitivity but with many products that sometimes is the case for a variety of reasons both legitimate and otherwise. If people are reacting it could be a failure to understand that this is still a wheat product and still subject to wheat allergies, a failure in the process of removing the gluten, people eating more than one serving(heck I usually do) bringing you over 20ppm My recommendation is be sure it is gluten you need to avoid, check all the ingredients and start slow with one serving and see how you feel.

michelle92896 I tried it, unfortunately not reading the ingredients and was very sick the next day. Was disappointed when I read the box and wheat is listed as an ingredient in a gluten free product.

  • profile picture thumbnail

erinike We tried it as well. It was not bad. I think our favorite frozen pizza is the GF Freschetta pizza. My 7 year old who has celiac really enjoys that one

  • default profile picture thumbnail

michael87796 Correction Codex is under 200 ppm when gluten free products must be under 20ppm. I agree with others who like freschetta

  • profile picture thumbnail

krystan74 I’m celiac and it made me sick.

meelben I also got sick after eating it. I'll never do it again.

daimudan I can't find it anywhere 😭 Every store in the area says they have them in stock. I show up, they don't even have a spot for them 🤬 The hunt continues!

kristaf from my recent research there is an allergy to wheat and an allergy to gluten. You can be allergic to one or the other or to both. so this could be why some individuals are experiencing issues and some are not.

christy190333 I tested it with my Nima partners Gluten tester twice and it's come back Gluten free both times.
