If I could give them zero stars I would. I went here yesterday for my dad’s birthday. The manager said gluten free would be no problem. The staff didn’t seem very confident. I ordered the sirloin and smashed red potatoes. The steak was cooked perfect. For dessert I just got a scoop of ice cream. After we left I begun to get a headache and feel very tired. Later that night I was in the bathroom. I slept in today and still feel tired. DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE! I ordered exactly what they recommended me and still got a giant reaction. I will not be going back to this restaurant.
Selfishly I'd give this a 1 star so no one finds it. We've eaten here dozens of times with zero issues. (We are both gluten intolerant and not celiac). Service is the best and they pay attention to all our special requests. Chef will respond with accommodations. We get the deviled egg appetizer and the ribs and the trout with sides of slaw and vegetables. We get the fries as we are no longer having issues with cross contamination and they are amazing but not likely celiac friendly. I got the special grouper brought in that day and it was indeed so fresh that it didn't taste like fish. The atmosphere is amazing. Very pricey!!! But the service is the best in the area. Our go to place.
Went in for lunch because their website states they have a gluten free menu. They no longer do, and the staff wasn't sure what items on the menu were GF. Disappointed in their lack of knowledge and willingness to help.
Aware of Gluten issues. Shanghai street noodles are excellent
Delicious food, no gluten free menu. Was told I’d be fine with the salmon in a separate skillet and their mashed potatoes. Tasted yummy but I got oh so sick and am not too sensitive. The one waitress did try telling me that the oven would be hot enough to kill the gluten so I just don’t think they are a safe bet. She did go back and check with the chef to give me my best recommendation, but it still didn’t “pan out”.
Gluten intolerance is a medical disability for many people not simply a preference. 131 Main Blakeney seriously needs a GF menu and better server training. Our waiter tonight was so very uninformed and dismissive. When I asked if they had a GF menu, he said that they did not however he said that some items can be made GF. He then asked if I had celiac and I informed him that I did not however it is a serious medical issue. No problem- par for the course. I asked which menu items could be prepared GF. He wasn’t sure. He said something about there being gluten in the homemade chicken stock. He steered me towards the fish options but he couldn’t confirm that the salmon was GF. I then requested that he go to the kitchen and ask which items can be made GF. He told me that it would take a very long time to check. Seriously??? Feeling very frustrated, I just ordered a salad (TOP CHOP grilled chicken, kale & quinoa, goat cheese, tomatoes, almonds, Craisins, artichokes, avocado, corn and herb vinaigrette** 20). A little while later, I went to ask the hostesses about GF options. They took the time to investigate and gave me a much more courteous response. Before the salad arrived, the waiter returned and let me know that he was substituting the salad dressing because the one that went with the salad I ordered was made with steak sauce and wasn’t GF. He wasn’t aware of that when I ordered it but I am pleased that the switch was made. Needless to say, we will not be returning to 131 Main. JUST LABEL THE MENU.
They don’t have a TON of options but the ones they do are soooo amazing. In my opinion they hands down the best ribs in town and they are GF. They also have separate fryer for fries only so that is a big win for a side. If you splurge for the grilled artichoke and sauce as an appetizer it is a restaurant meal to remember.
Great food prepared to order. They can even accommodate the low FODMAP diet, and the service is great too!
