We went there on the late side when other restuarants were closing. Talked to the waiter and I was very specific about cross contamination issues. He went and talked to the kitchen to ensure I could eat the items listed GF. I ordered the mahi tacos and they were very good. Also, he told me I couldn't eat the chips (which I tend not to do) and subbed out the refried beans with black beans. This is actually my preference so worked out great. Would feel comfortable eating here but I am very specific about precautions needed for me to eat. Since I am so symptomatic, I always do this. In my case, the waiter made all the difference because he followed up with questions to the kitchen and erred on the side of caution.

Attempted to get a seat and the hostess was so rude I decided to take my business elsewhere.
Went today after hiking. Server was very helpful. Menu has chips listed as gf, but they are made in a shared fryer - make sure you ask questions!
I asked for the gf mahi fish tacos - our server went to speak to the chef to confirm safety for me. He said it would be a different recipe than what he usually makes - that was fine with me, as I was more concerned about safety. They were delicious and I appreciated her efforts to make sure I could eat safely.
Not sure how they would do when busier - but I recommend with reservations as you need to be proactive and ask a lot of questions to make sure your needs are met.

Must ask questions. Menu shows chips and salsa as GF but they are made in a shared fryer.
I had grilled shrimp tacos that came with rice and refried beans and a margarita with mango purée. All delicious. This is a small place that had live music on a Wednesday night.

Absolutely fantastic street tacos! Stopped buy after a day of hiking in Sedona, looking for a good meal on a patio. This place did not disappoint! The tacos were so flavourful, and served with beans and rice, the meal was very satisfying. No compromises were made to make the meal GF for us! The menu was clearly marked with GF items too. Highly recommend this place to any Celiac in Sedona!

Nice place and service was good. I had street fish tacos with beans and rice. The food was really good and I had no issues. They have items marked GF on the menu, but I would ask questions before ordering.

I would be hesitant for anyone with celiac. While the menu lists allergies, they have items marked GF that contain gluten. The chips and salsa are marked GF but the chips are fried in a shared fryer. They have beer battered shrimp listed as GF. However the beer batter is not GF and fried in a shared fryer. They are also not accommodating to making any substitutions for any items. I told the waitress the menu was misleading and she was going to provide the feedback. I feel like anyone eating here is taking a gamble.

Delicious Cadillac margarita and carne asada tacos with rice and refried beans. I am a very sensitive celiac and did not get sick. The server told me chips are cooked in a shared fryer and are not gluten free. Carnitas also are not gluten free. Would have been 5 stars if I could have had the chips and if the prices were reasonable. Great views though!

Menu is detailed with allergen information and our waiter was very knowledgeable about what was safe for me (GF, DF). They do not have a dedicated GF fryer, so be aware when ordering - some things marked GF wouldn't be GF when cooked. For example, I initially ordered the battered shrimp tacos which were cooked in the fryer and my order came with some dairy (crema) hidden in it. When I asked the waiter about it, he immediately offered an alternative and got my meal out to me quickly.

89 Agave was a good restaurant with a lot of gluten free options which are marked on the menu. I would recommend getting the steak tacos. It comes with a gluten free tortilla. There starter of chips, guacamole(which is made at the table in front of you), and queso is also gluten free. Plus they had my favorite drink, Jarritos. 89 Agave is excellent!!!

No dedicated fryer and all food is cooked on the same grill. Waitress said that cross contamination would happen. Food was ok for other people in party.
No
We don't do shared fryers, so we couldn't have the chips which is pretty disappointing. However they said they could whip up a veggie platter for eating with the guacamole which we really appreciated. Not a lot for my gf son to order from but he did ok--he had the enchiladas, but soft corn tacos would have been a safe option too. We were a party of 4 and all of our meals were delicious.
Yes
The gf options are marked on the menu but you can’t have the tortilla chips or some of the other things you’d normally be able to have at a Mexican restaurant. Overall it wasn’t very satisfying - my husbands meal (non-gf) was completely cold.
Delicious food, and great service. I ordered the quesadilla which is on flour tortillas and they substituted corn tortillas no problem.
Yes
Staff not knowledgeable of GF items on menu. Took 20 minutes to check with kitchen staff after asking to confirm if the rice/beans served are GF.
No
They Tweaked the menu items we asked about to fit our late evening appetites. Street tacos, sweet corn, Mexican salad & chicken soup as well as the chicken fajitas were all very good. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. My gf dinner was a pork carnita taco and an ear of sweet street style corn. Waitstaff was knowledgeable about gluten free options for me. Would eat here again if we were local! BTW we heard about 89Agave from our rental car agent at the airport in Phoenix, as well as recommended by Findme Gluten Free app.

The BEST tacos I have ever eaten (and I LOVE Mexican food)! This place knows how to do flavor!! Staff was very knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. A little pricey but, worth EVERY bite!!
Yes
Although my meal was good (the street tacos), I was upset about the chips and salsa. Our server mentioned they may be able to make them in a different pot and she would ask the kitchen. I don't think she ever asked the kitchen to be honest, they weren't really busy either. Otherwise the tacos were delicious as well as the enchiladas
Great food with a number of GF options. Server was relatively knowledgeable regarding GF options and asked chef when he could not answer our questions.
Yes
I had really good street tacos, rice and guacamole. The tortilla soup was amazing. as previous review says, tortilla chips are not safe, and shrimp for tacos was breaded but the remade it for us when we realized! fun atmosphere, friendly staff.
Yes
Tortilla chips are fried in a fryer with other food (they did not offer separate pan like the other reviewer!). But the quesadilla on corn tortilla was excellent, as was the guacamole. Staff was aware. To quote one of the waiters, "our chips are gluten free but not celiac gluten free".
My son has Celiac disease. He ate here twice without getting sick. I only gave them 4 stars because our server did not really know what gluten was. The kitchen staff did seem to have a good understanding. The server did seem eager to learn. The food was GREAT!! The kitchen staff accommodated my son. They even fried our tortilla chips in a separate pan as their fryer is not a dedicated gf fryer. The restaurant is new & the server did indicate that they want to expand on the gf options.
