I checked out their website which seemed to have an extensive gluten-free menu so we thought we’d give it a try. When we arrived and I started to ask the waitress all of the various questions about their cooking procedures and cross contact, and she informed me that the owner has Celiac Disease and that everything Gluten Free is cooked separately. That was quite a relief, because you never know what to expect when trying a new restaurant. My celiac son got a gluten-free pizza. I have to say one of the highlights of the meal was the tater tots. They were light and crispy, and we finished them so fast that we got a 2nd order! They also had various tater tots with toppings such as chili, etc. but we went with the plain. Some other gluten free menu highlights are gluten free crabcakes, chicken fingers, wings, grilled cheese, soups, pizza and more!
Amazing food and a wonderful gluten free menu. Right when we sat down our waitress asked if anyone needed a gluten free menu, I didn't even need to ask! The gluten free crab cake was delicious! Tator tots were so good! Reasonably priced. Chef has celiac and they used separate fryers. Wish I could give it 6 stars.
What I ordered was fine. The issue I had was more with the staff knowledge. We had bread on the appetizer plate (not mentioned in the menu), our food runner couldn’t tell me if it was GF or not. I’m sure if we ate in the dining room vs the bar, it would’ve been better experience. :(
Amazing experience! It took me forever to order because I am not used to so many options! Ask for a gluten-free menu when you’re seated. I had a buffalo chicken sandwich and tater tots - it was all delicious! I’m very sensitive to CC and felt absolutely fine. Non-GF family members loved it too! If you’re in Baltimore, it’s a must-visit.
Definitely celiac friendly. Dedicated fryer so we can have greasy fries and tots again! Waitress told me everything is very separate in preparation because the owner (or manager?) Has celiac. It was a good place to get pub food without concern.
Their staff was very knowledgeable and they have a gluten free menu with lots of options. Separate dedicated fryer. My daughter enjoyed the Texas Tots as an appetizer and got a GF plain pizza for her main course. Friendly atmosphere a pub feeling. Very cute
Please note: the panini press used for the GF panini's is the same for the gluten paninis and the gluten free paninis. This is NOT safe for celiacs. I was served soup accompanied by wheat crackers which indicates a lack of attention. Our server seemed 98% indifferent to gluten free issues. Reading the reviews, Alexander's Tavern does very well by celiacs, but I felt very anxious there due to the above factors. I had soup and a salad and did not get sick.
Alwxander's is by far one of the best restaurants with an entire menu of GF options for our 4 family members with celiacs. There is a separate fryer with very fresh ingredients is all dishes ordered for lunch. The Maryland burger on a Udi's bread, topped with crab was a favorite for 2 in our party. GF crabcakes have huge side portions. Oh and the apps, 1/2. price with 2 entrees, were an excellent start to this exciting meal- Boardwalk fries and a crab dip with bread! Family was looking forward to checking this restaurant out and the experience definitely didn't disappoint!!! The server, Andrew and others were friendly and attentive!
AT’s gluten free menu is a godsend. One of the only local places I feel “normal” at. I’m honestly not sure how celiac-safe it is but I keep going back nonetheless. Pro tip: Go to the bar side during the “$4-5-6” happy hour — you can order gluten free versions w/out an upcharge!
This restaurant has an extensive menu and very knowledge staff. I ate on the bar side and my bartender was so kind and understanding. She even explained that the kitchen has separate fryers for wings and if you order gluten free they ensure it is safe for their customers. They do warn there may be some cross contamination but even with that the owner of this establishment is gluten free and so was the former chef so I believe you are in safe hands. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
I ate here for lunch and had a delicious sandwich and tots. The gluten free menu is much more extensive than most places, and I when I told the server I have celiac's, she said they would prepare my food in a separate location. I felt comfortable eating here, and did not get sick afterwards. Highly recommended!
A must visit! We hadn't been able to have crab dip or crab of crab soup in ages, and the Chesapeake Tots were heavenly. The chicken fingers were also fantastic. If you drink, do yourself a favor and get a mimosa or fruit crush-they squeeze their own juice.
The most extensive gluten free menu I have ever seen. I ordered a panini with a small side salad which was good, but I was blown away by the rich, decadent Maryland tots. I had never had crab before, and almost gobbled the whole thing up myself. We rounded our meal out with a blueberry Betty which was divine. I would definitely suggest this place to anyone in the area. Boyfriend couldn't even tell the dishes we ordered were lacking gluten!
Soooo good. They had a separate gluten free menu with a really nice selection of pub fare, sandwiches (including some really really good fried chicken based options) and tater-tots. They also had Omission beer. The place is divided into a bar and a dining room area, which was also actually very kid friendly.
