Review of Altes Tramdepot Brauerei & Restaurant

Be careful here! We have eaten here off and on for years, with mixed results. We have always had to be vigilant about the food that is delivered (more than once having to send something back that had gluten when we had ordered Gluten-free). This last visit was awful: 2 of 4 meals were glutened. The waiter substituted pasta (with gluten!) for the rice that was supposed to come with the dish. We noticed this only after our visiting celiac friend hungrily started eating as soon as the food was served. When we called this to the waiter’s attention he said we had requested the substitution (no way!) and then said “It can happen.”The manager was more understanding but it was too late for our friend. Later we read the label on the “gluten free” beer to find that it’s made from wheat (with the gluten “removed” after fermentation).The “allergy menu” can lead one to think this is a safe option but the high staff turnover and tourist location mean this is a busy place where you’re taking your chances with the food that you get. I would advise anyone needing to avoid gluten to stick with drinks, enjoy the view, and eat somewhere else.
