Although the menu labels many things as “gluten free,” most of these items are NOT celiac safe because fried items go into a shared fryer and their homemade corn tortillas are made on the same equipment as the flour tortillas. Not even the tortilla chips are safe, unfortunately. I was very lucky to get a very well informed waitress who was able point out the only safe things on the menu: the crema poblana and caldo azteca soups and the grilled chipotle chicken (although the yuca fries will need to be substituted with something else like rice and beans due to CC). Maybe bring your own tortillas if you want more options.
Chips are not made in a dedicated fryer, but the safe meals are marked gluten free on the main menu. They also mark for nuts and shellfish, which was helpful for my other allergies! Tried the Crema Poblana soup and the Swiss Enchiladas. Both were wonderful!
Firstly, when I called for a reservation the staff were prompt, courteous and professional. When I informed them that I was bringing my "delicate little flower" who is both gluten and dairy allergic they had pre-briefed Bryan R. who was going to be our waiter. Bryan was first rate, patient while my bride and children made their sections and when asked, he provided actual feedback and suggestions to my bride to ensure that her meal was safe and delicious. When I checked in with the bartender to verify that she could have a margarita, the bartender already knew about my bride and answered all of my questions. During the meal one of the owners Jacob Pirel came to check on us and was not aware of this app when he asked how we found this restaurant. I have to say this restaurant will become a staple for us when we come to Houston to visit my father-in-law and we are looking forward to the great food, diverse selection, and quality service that means that my bride can have an outstanding Mexican meal that we didn't prepare at home.
To the owners and staff, I would say thank you and well done.
To anyone looking for delicious Mexican food, you absolutely must try this establishment.
The staff was very knowledgeable, especially manager, Tyler who has a loved one with CD. He assured me that my chips were fried in a dedicated fryer with my own salsa. They made sure to let the chef know to take the special precautions and even the bartender, who made a margarita for me. Two managers checked on us, and even the owner stopped by our table to make sure we were all happy with our meals. I was very pleased with our experience!
