So good! It's one of my favorite restaurants. I love to get the empanadas, and they are gluten free. There are lots of fried foods, so they probably have a separate frier with gluten free. Menu was labeled. When I ordered, they sounded very confident when they said it was gf. Love this place! 😋❤
Unfortunately I can't recommend it, the staff is super friendly and seems competent. I mentioned my celiac disease and cross contamination. I ordered the steamed beef with rice, fried yuca and salad. I noticed something wasn't right just before the last bite and have had my typical symptoms ever since. I suspect it's the frying process.... It's a shame, another ruined weekend and possibly problems for a week.
There are lots of gluten free options and they are clearly labeled as such in the menu. The dos and service are great.
I wanted to correct a previous review that is on here and clear up any confusion. This restaurant does not use wheat flour in their empanadas. I have eaten here previously and never had any issues, but I decided to double check with the staff to make sure that they were not using wheat flour in their empanadas and a staff member confirmed that they do not.
He actually helped to break down the menu for me and explain what is and is not gluten free and how they are marked on the menu (there are markers for both gluten and gluten free items to help clearly identify them for customers). He also went on to clarify that if a customer mentions that they do have a gluten allergy, the person taking their order will mark this down and the cooks in the back will take extra precautions to ensure that the meal is prepared safe (for example changing their gloves).
I would also like to note that most of the menu is actually gluten free with the exception of the tequeños and the pasteles (which again are clearly marked as having gluten on the menu). And then they do offer some vegan options as well.
Be careful! We ordered empanadas and asked if they were gluten free they confirmed. They looked too good to be true so I tested them when I got home. They tested positive for gluten. I'm sad because I love this place and everyone is so nice, but I have Celiac so I can't risk eating here.
According to the staff, they started adding “a little wheat flour” to some of their menu items (not marked, and share the same fryer). Now nothing’s safe. Took my celiac friend and realized too late, and we both got glutened. Shame on this establishment for pulling a stunt like this after building a reputation in the GF community, and all its “Gluten Free” marketing, signs, and wrappers.
We did not get sick after eating here. The waiter didn’t speak great English so when we told him no gluten because of celiac, he just told us not to eat the empanadas because they’re fried and to him that’s not GF. He said everything was gluten free but the answer he gave us made us slightly nervous about his advice.
This is the newest location of the Venezuelan restaurant, Arempas. Most of their items are gluten free, and they have a dedicated gluten-free fryer! We got their Vegan Arepa with plantain and black beans, their side salad, and their patacón (type of fried plantain) with pulled pork. Everything was SO delicious. They were also very friendly and brought the food out fast. And I didn’t get sick after. 10/10 recommend.
