They brought me an allergen menu. You can eat the smoked chicken and the fried catfish. And a few of the sides. I was super excited to be able to eat catfish again!
Been going to Babe’s ever since it was the original spot in Roanoke. So happy they have added a few gluten free options to the small menu. Roasted Chicken and Fried Catfish are always safe bets on gluten free plus they are crazy good. Stay away from the gravy, biscuits, and salad but enjoy the rest of the sides.
Staff were knowledgeable about what was GF or not. GF menu items were limited, but delicious: smoked chicken, fried catfish (dedicated fryer), mashed potatoes (NOT gravy), green beans, and creamed corn. The salad was NOT GF, nor was the bbq sauce or the amarillo sauce—so bring your own dressing with you if you want it! The smoked chicken was very flavorful and juicy, so it didn’t need any sauce for dipping. Would definitely be back again!
Babes has many sides that are gluten free such as the corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes (no gravy). The sides to avoid are the salad, biscuits, and gravy. The meat that is gluten free is the smoked chicken and fried catfish. The fried catfish is fried in a dedicated gluten free fryer. My daughter has Celiacs and had no issue there.
