Review of Baker's Crust

The food itself is 4 stars. The decor, atmosphere, and most of the staff get at least 4 stars. However, our waitress was ignorant and rude.

Pros: Food. We were in for a light dinner and ordered the Fennel Sausage GF pizza. As clearly stated on the menu, the pizza is cooked in a pan, yet in the same oven as the other nonGF pizza. We can tolerate minor cc, so this risk was minimal to us. The pizza was nice. Not incredible, but certainly in the higher range of pizza crust, taste-wise. As other reviewers have mentioned, some of the edges of the thin crust were over done, but the crust had pretty good depth of flavor and the toppings were quality.

Pros: the atmosphere was lovely! Cozy and chic. The host didn't bat an eye at our request for gluten-free menus. The wait staff seemed attentive and the food arrived In a timely manner.

Con: our waitress was horrible. I asked how large the gluten-free pizza was and she seemed uncertain if they offered GF pizza, in spite of the pair of us holding GF menus. Then she remembered herself and asked if we had an allergy. I said no, we did not and that we saw it was cooked in a separate pan and that was fine. She stumbled again over an abbreviated explanation of the pans and then said "it definitely isn't an allergy? Because the chef said no one with an allergy should eat it and some others have tried it and said it tastes like cardboard." And then she looked at us expectantly as though we would just change our order to something regular. I told her that we wanted the gluten-free crust. Then she said "so this is just for healthy diet...?" I told her that no we had a sensitivity, not an allergy, but the gluten-free pizza would be fine as it was prepared.

My boyfriend did not hear her make the comment, but he was rattled by her rudeness when I told her what she said. I had to talk him down from confronting her. I was ready to brush the entire thing off as ignorance, as offensive as it may have been.

I'm not sure whether she heard our conversation, or if she realized how offensive her comment had been, but that was nearly the last we saw of her. She blatantly avoided our table--another waiter brought out our food and cleared our plates. Several times our waitress came to check on the table next to us, but never acknowledged us. We never got refills on our drinks or the chance to ask for them. She nearly threw our check to our table, reaching over the divider. She picked up and returned our payment card with minimal acknowledgement.

It is a shame that, after first insulting our food options to our face, that she acted like a child and became downright rude as the evening went on. As I said, we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I hope that our waitress takes a little more time to at least make herself aware of the menu options and the details that accompany GF dishes. Sad that she was poor enough to drop a star from this review.
