The staff was so accommodating and made me very comfortable with eating their food. I was told the chips were CCed and my waiter brought be bell peppers to eat my guac with and also ran through the menu to tell me want was GF. All their salads are GF, but only 3 tacos. They were delicious, however not a ton of options.
After explaining celiac multiple times to my waitress and asking if the chips on the gluten free menu were definitely fried separately and being reassured multiple times that they were, halfway through my meal I was told that they actually weren’t. Got incredibly sick. Do not recommended. Should have trusted my instincts and not eaten here considering their gluten free menu at the bottom includes a section labeled “just a little gluten.” Ridiculous
There is a “gluten sensitive” menu. Stick to that. They evidently use a separate fryer for tortilla chips and the guacamole is delicious. Staff is fairly knowledgeable and willing to ask questions. Interested to see if others have had success. Update: I had a few questionable experiences with the gluten sensitive menu, so I have not been back.
They had a separate, small, gluten free menu. At the bottom was a list of a few things that had beer in the marinade but no other gluten. Service was fine. Food wise, for those of us that are gluten free and those of us who are not, we were over all not impressed. As someone from Texas the Rojo salsa and corn tortillas were the only things truly good. Everything else while eatable really missed the mark, generally by an over all lack of seasoning though things like the guacamole the proportions were off because while they do make it on the premises they do a ton of it ahead of time and have to add waaaaay to much lime to keep it from going brown. I’ve lived in the North East for the last 15 years so I’ve found many a place that was worse than this, and I can definitely see why people who’ve never really had Mexican food like it and it is a place I could kill a craving at if I were desperate, just don’t go expecting really good tacos if you know what authentic ones taste like.
Very helpful and knowlegable. They do have a sepatate menu with both gluten free and "a little gluten" items. I was asked if I avoided gluten or had celiac. When I said I had celiac, they notified the kitchen to clean the work surface, wash hands and change gloves for my order. They also gave us extra salsa in separate bowls with tortilla for me. The server who brought the food asked who was gluten free in our party and was attentive in serving my plate away from other items with gluten. The food was great and I'll definitely be going back.
They do not have a dedicated fryer anymore. The black beans and both of the braised meats contain beer. The only things that are supposedly truly gf are salads, the al pastor taco, the mushroom taco, and the corn (huitlacoche) taco. :(
The chips, guacamole, and queso were SO GOOD! Very limited dinner entree options. The tacos are brought out family style to the table. Not knowing this, I let the server know I had to be gluten free for Celiac but the kitchen still prepped my tacos with everyone else’s which meant I had to send my order back.
Love this place. They have a separate gluten free menu, and the staff was knowledgeable or willing to ask the chef for me. Their queso (unlike many other Mexican places that put beer in the cheese) is gluten free! The tacos are yummy. Get 3-4 for a meal.
Absolutely amazing guacamole. I make a mean guacamole and this was the best tasting I've ever had. My kiddo and I devoured it. The gluten free menu is a bit on the small side, but their menu isn't very big anyway. I would definitely come here again! One delicious cider on tap too! Rheingeist Bubbles cider..... Yummmmmm mm!!!!!
Went here thinking that they have a dedicated fryer— they do not. Waitress said they can’t guarantee no cross contamination. I am very sensitive so I chose to not even try here. I wouldn’t eat here if you have celiac.
just wondering in our server told us that there is nothing on here that is celiac safe. She then said there are only four items that are with no gluten the items added, but that they make no guarantees. it's only the second time I've ever walked out of a restaurant.
The staff was very knowledgeable. Though they don’t have a gluten free menu, the staff knows a lot about which is safe and even told me about shared fryers being used for their chips. They brought me out corn tortillas to use for the queso instead which are so good! They’re homemade! Would easily go back.
Very good for people with gluten allergies! The corn tortillas are delicious and I had the short ribs and spicy mahi. Short ribs was the best! They did tell me the grill is shared with flour tortillas. Chips are yummy with green salsa verde!
They no longer have a Gluten Free Menu or dedicated fryer. The only options they offer are a few tacos. I am only giving one star because this App made me. I did not eat there. I asked them to please correct the information on this App but they said they did not have any control over it and has never heard of it.
Decent gluten free. Some things unnecessarily have gluten in them (like the queso....I have never understood why that's necessary) but I always get the chips and salsa and that's fine. I have non-celiac immune response to gluten and I don't come here often but I've never gotten sick from here.
Very impressed with Bakersfield. It's always nice to find good Mexican food that is gluten-free. Two of us went for lunch and had the queso appetizer with two tacos each. Plenty of food and super good! I had no problem with the chips or tacos. Pricing is very reasonable for the area and service was good. If back in Pitt would definitely try again!
They don't have anything exclusively GF but prepare their own tortillas without flour. I had short rib and chicken tacos and both were really, really good! They're clear about cross-contamination, so you want to be cautious -- there are several restaurants in that area that may have safer options.
They are mostly corn based with a few exceptions and they do have a separate fryer for their chips and flour fried items. My server was very knowledgable and what she didn't know she went to management to ask. They made sure to clarify with me that the food was not prepared on a desperate surface and they didn't necessarily vet all the vendors whose food they used so I appreciated their honesty. I had the pork belly pastor and huitlacoche tacos and both were fantastic! The huitlacoche had corn truffles in it and was very earthy in flavor. I will definitely go back!
This place was awesome! Authentic Mexican food and a separate (large!) gluten free menu! I had chicken tomatillo tacos and they were to DIE for! Chips are fried in the same oil as other gluten-containing foods, so be careful. Otherwise, this place is pretty safe! The manager came over after I ordered to assess the severity of my allergy. I told him it was severe (Celiac's) and he said "not a problem" and went and told the kitchen staff. I would highly recommend!!
Cool atmosphere and looks like tasty food...but they say none of it is gluten free except for: the chips. They are fried in a dedicated fryer. Just walk next door and eat at a place with a gluten free menu.
