The vibe is cool. The drinks are great. The food tastes pretty good. However, from a gluten perspective, this place is not safe. The menus are not marked and they scratch items you can have.
I’ve been here a few times and have gotten sick each time. My wife likes it so I was willing to go back.
They serve a lot of their food on wooden plates which aren’t safe for gluten because it gets absorbed into the wood. I’m surprised the safety ratings by others is so high.
Really enjoyed our dining experience. They have charcuterie small plates and large plates like paella that are delicious, even a few desserts. The GF selection was huge and the wine was outstanding. Service was great. They had a Gf fryer going last night and the waiter crossed off anything that wasn’t Gf. Highly recommend!
Super accommodating staff. I am gluten, milk and egg free and there were tons of options. Manager came to the table to walk our table through the menu and marked all foods that were safe. We made a reservation and noted my restrictions which definitely helped. The food was delicious!!
We had a Drink at the place. It’s really nice. We’ve asked for Patatas Bravas a simply classic that’s potatoes with some spicy powder on top at the oven. But instead they brought us potatoes on a spicy tomato sauce with an Alioli on top. If you are CELIAC please DO NOT TRY IT ! Make us feel horrible.
Overall a fairly safe place to eat. It is really hectic in there and you need to stay attentive though. Waiter marked up the menu - some things are never safe, some can be sautéed instead (cooked separate is how I understood it), and some are always safe.
The main issue is that the waiter doesn’t bring the food, the food runners do. They usually don’t say anything - drop plates and run / no time for question or confirmation (if you do catch them, often they don’t know anyway).
I decided to have faith. Luckily when one dish was brought over incorrectly, seconds before eating it the waiter caught it and stopped me. I thanked him, he took the wrong dish (kale salad w a gluten topper), and the small plate I had with several things on it since it was now cross contaminated.
I am overall not sure if I got anything contaminated, I didn’t feel bad but also wasn’t perfect - though overall felt ok about the experience.
My suggestion for the restaurant is to:
1. Have food runners clearly denote when something is made safe for allergies or celiac, or require servers/mgrs to bring specialty food instead of it’s not possible.
2. Don’t mark up the menu every time by hand. Just make a celiac version once and post it and educate the staff.
3. When somebody does screw up, don’t charge the customer for it. In fact the small plate had half of the other dishes on it - it all went in the trash after and only the kale salad was remade.
All in all room for improvement but the server did their best under the restaurants policies!
