I ate at Bar Taco before in Nashville and was assured that everything was gluten free except for the deserts, drinks and optional flour tortillas. I had no issues. I arrived to Orlando location and the host told me that absolutely everything was gluten free that I could order without any problems. I thought it was weird because both the other location and the online menu said that some items have gluten and some items share a fryer. I didn’t have my tester with me so I just thought I’ll follow the online allergen menu (it shows things that are prepared in the shared fryer or not). When my Baja fish taco arrived I wanted to confirm again, so I asked this server if it was fried in the shared fryer and she said “no, everything is gluten free here” I nicely said again “I just want to make sure cause I can’t eat gluten” then she asked if I was celiac and I suddenly the conversation changed she said “I need to check cause we sometimes use beer batter on those, I think the recipe changed” at this point I’m almost giving up because why would they advertise their place as gluten free and have beer batter in the gluten free food? Also why keep denying that was any gluten in the items? When all desserts contain wheat flour, plus some kids items. I ate and the food was delicious but I would not go again without a tester. Only reason I accepted to eat was because they promised that was no gluten on what I had and the allergy menu said no gluten or shared equipment for these items. But I’m still scared (it has only been three hours).
