My wife ordered a Caesar Salad with steak off the gluten free menu after making an open table reservation with “Celiac” clearly marked on it and informing the waiter that she was celiac. It came out without the steak, which to her has traditionally been a red flag — if her allergy orders come out wrong she loses faith that the allergy part has been properly observed. In this case she ignored the alarm bells. She didn’t send it back because it was 30 minutes from close and she didn’t want to wait and elected just to eat the salad without the steak and make sure she wasn’t charged for it. Then came the regret. After eating half the salad in the dim lighting she found crouton debris on the bottom of the plate and upon closer examination found some actual crouton pieces in the rest of the salad. The manager confirmed that’s what they were. The waiter and manager were mortified, and rightly so, she’s definitely going to get sick. It was just unacceptable.
