Nice enough but disappointed that only the fish was GF. From all the positive reviews I’ve read I was expecting more choice such as GF sausages or chicken nuggets. So sadly my son only ended up with plain chips. Wouldn’t go back for that reason and found the service not the friendliest.
Food was great with no issues from my celiac spouse.
We were excited to finally have GF fish and chips but the night ended with a fizzle instead of a bang when the service slowed to a halt after we ordered. Ended up taking well over an hour to get our food. The food was good when we got it, and worth the wait, but we were too tired to do anything else when we were finally able to leave. The whole trip was just over two hours with everyone in our party getting the fish and chips the restaurant is famous for. Multiple other tables were seated after us and departed before us.
Not sure if this was due to the GF accommodation or simply poor service. Definitely a bit disappointing.
To echo the many, many reviews, it’s safe, it’s quick, it’s yummy though certainly not my favorite UK fish and chips

Generous portions and amazing gf batter, really nice fish.
Finally I can eat fish and chips. So unbelievable good. I really recommend it. The staff is really friendly and helpfull. Heel blij voor het eerst in jaren Fish& Chips gegeten. Tarwevrij, Melkvrij en glutenvrij. Echt een aanrader.

Great gluten free battered fish and chips. We always eat here when we visit Edinburgh.
Our celiac daughter found lots of gf options and never had any bad reaction after.
Excellent Takeaway GF fish and chips. We preorder online and it was ready just as we arrive. Really fresh and super tasty.

Place looks great.
Server brought my families food over and said “normal fish and chips” which did make it sound a bit awkward.
My fish was also half the size of the non GF ones so that was annoying.
The GF food is also cooked in vegetable oils which i’ve not used for ages. The non GF is cooked in beef fat.
They also note they are unable to stop cross contamination.
Next morning my stomach was going berserk.
Was a great experience, went twice, the fist time to eat there and the second one to take away They have a full section of GF beers! The plate was really big, so I recommend to share.
I have been to this place numerous times before. I have always had a very good experience. I have gone there for the last 4-5 years. However, yesterday I got glutened with awful bloating and cramps. Now the next day I’m still suffering from their mishandling. I am not sure where the gluten could have been sneaked in. It was super busy, but because of this experience I am not coming back again.
Berties was great! Nice place, good atmosphere, and extensive gluten free menu. There were a lot of breaded options and traditional dishes, which was great! We had fish and chips, which were good. I'd like to go back and try some other dishes. Would recommend.
When ordering the waitress said that they could make the onion rings gf so i shared them as a starter with my partner (who's not gf). I then had the gf fish and chips. Sadly I was glutened by one or other of them which was disappointing as they did seem to have a really clear understanding of coeliac requirements.
It is so nice to have a typical tourist meal in a safe environment! They label everything and make sure that you are versed in their allergy protocol before ordering. Very friendly and ready to help!

Dedicated fryer and very knowledgable about celiac, so such a great place for fish and chips. They also had a small selection of gf beers and ciders available. I already want to go back!

Great food! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about gluten free options. We also had a dairy free pescatarian in the group who had more than one option for a meal. Group contained one celiac and two gluten intolerants, no one got sick.
Staff are very knowledgeable about gluten issues. I ordered the GF fish and chips and waiter asked my companion about allergies, then brought us GF vinegar and chippy sauce so it was ready when our fish arrived. The batter was not my favorite, but it was fine. Chips were a bit hard. It seemed very safe to me and I had no issues. GF ciders and even mocktails available.
A couple of gf beer options whilst waiting for a table. Really quick service, friendly servers. Not the best gf fish and chips, batter really thick. But GF, the GF chippy sauce is delicious! Don’t know about side effects yet. I’m still here!
Delicious GF fish, chips, and onion rings. I’ve been twice—both times the staff was knowledgeable and clear about ingredients and options. Bertie’s has GF vinegar and chippy sauce, and makes GF tartar sauce (which comes on the side with the fish & chips). They also have good cider options, which for me makes the meal complete! I’ll be going again for sure!

Several gluten-free options were offered, multiple fish and chips options as well.
There are a few options from the oven (which did not work when we were there) and fried options as well. They make it with bread crumbs and it will be fried in a separate frie.

Ordered gf battered and chips. At home can’t get battered fish. Waiters knowledgable about gf. Proactive, brought out gluten free vinegar and mayonaise for me. Beautifully cooked. Huge portions.

All I can say best fish and chips! The batter and chips were very crispy and the fish was so fresh! Went out of their way to give a gf vinegar and tartar sauce.
I love love love fish and chips and I adored how attentive this restaurant was for gluten free. They have a separate fryer for gluten free and their fish and chips was so good. We came here for lunch once and again for a late dinner when we didn’t have a reservation. They also have a good variety of ciders you can get as well. Highly recommend and a great atmosphere.
We greatly enjoyed our GF battered fish and chips that were prepared in separate fryer. Two others in our group enjoyed the normal ones also. They had separate freshly prepared tartar sauce and other GF bottled sauce also. I only wish I had room for dessert, but the portion is very large!
Outstanding gf fish & chips - with gf tartar sauce! They even had hard cider on tap. Great time to be had. They also have gf calamari with garlic aoli. What a treat!

Staff is knowledgeable, they have own gluten free fryer. Onion rings are not marked GF on the menu bjt they can make them GF if you ask.
Really decent gluten free fish and chips as well as a selection of gluten free beers. They have separate fryers and cooking stations for all their gluten free cooking. Felt safe eating here and the food was yummy!
The fish and chips gluten free is very nice, thay also have beers and other sides like onion rings.
A separate fryer and gf batter meant fried fish, fries, and onion rings were all safe - and the onion rings were particularly delicious. But watch out for the drinks - they ornamented mine with a piece of candy on a stick that I doubt was gf
Had dinner here. Busy place, best to make reservations. Very knowledgeable about celiac. I had the battered haddock and chips with mushy peas. Everything was excellent. Waitress also brought gluten free vinegar and chip sauce to table, as the sauces on the table are not gluten free. Really good food! Food came out flagged gf
They manager was incredibly helpful. All my food was prepared with extra care to avoid cross contamination and all food came flagged.
Best GF Fish and Chips in Edinburgh- large filets with the best crispy batter (look just like the non gluten fish fillets). Have a dedicated fryer for the chips and staff are very knowledgeable about Gluten sensitivity and Celiac. Was an enjoyable meal and highly recommend.
Amazing fish and chips, massive portions, staff were informative and understanding and wrote celiac down on their notes. Separate fryers and even brought out gluten free vinegar and chip sauce!
Great gluten free fish and chips, as well as gluten free beer. Good takeaway option to sit outside if it’s too packed for a table inside. Staff was knowledgeable and all was well labeled. No issues!
Delicious! Went there with my two kids, husband and brother. GF fish and chips were delicious and they even brought a GF chippy sauce. The kids menu was good too. Great experience but smart to make a reservation online before you go!
