I work near this location and have tried eating there fairly often. You HAVE to be very diligent. Today I asked for a total refund because the burger was NOT on a gluten free bun. This has happened so many times now that I probably won’t ho back. When it’s right the food is pretty good, but not good enough to be worth the risk. I’m sad to write this, but they’ve just messed up too many times - even when the ticket says “gluten free”.
I got sick badly within a couple hours. All I had was the gf French baguette and a hot mocha.
I have eaten Billie’s in midtown multiple times and been fine. This location is still pretty new so maybe the kitchen needs more training or something. So disappointing.
The baked goods are incredible and coffee is great. If you’re not sensitive to cross contamination I would give it a try. It’s a bit pricey for a full meal and the water you get yourself at the drink station is room temp.
This is definitely a place I will be coming back when I am in Kansas City. You walk into place with case after case of gluten free baked goods. They offer gluten free fried chicken breast. You can get it on a gf bun, salad or a wrap. You can buy gluten free baguettes, cookies, cupcakes, tarts, cheesecakes, and whole cakes.
I had a fried chicken sandwich with a side salad which was yummy. Others in my group had a Rubin, a bowl, and a wrap. They enjoyed their food and will be back.
Of course we had dessert. A lemon meringue cheesecake, a lemon tart and a hazelnut tart. They were very helpful with the gluten free options.
One of my favorite places for brunch and baked goods! Such a huge selection of GF options. The only thing I personally have trouble with is the fact that so many of their things *are* GF, I have forgotten that they are not dedicated GF before and neglected to mention it when ordering a brekkie, but that’s not their fault. When notified of GF restriction, I feel very confident that my meal will come out correctly and safe.
I really do love this place, it was a staple in my go to restaurants but the last 2 times i went I was glutened pretty bad. I got the GF chicken and waffles and i told the girl it was an allergy and she didn’t flag it in the system and told me it’s gluten free after i asked her, she seemed a little annoyed with me. The second time I got the garlic aioli fries and again was glutened. I would love to keep coming here but sadly i’m very symptomatic and and strict with cross contamination…
Let me start by saying I absolutely love Billie’s, and I’ve been a long-time supporter. I have visited the new location anywhere from 2-3x a week since opening.
Sadly, yesterday I was badly glutened. I blame myself for switching it up- ordering what I don’t normally. I had a GF Bagel + Cream Cheese and a Collagen Cloud Latte. Went through my usual Celiac warning, staff does occasionally shrug this off- “oh, well it’s a GF Bagel, you’ll be okay.”
I’m thinking the glutening came into play with the way the toasted the bagel. It also came out served with butter, not cream cheese - but okay, whatever I was there to meet a friend so I didn’t say anything.
An exact hour later I was in a world of pain. May change my mind on items that come from the kitchen, as opposed to just keeping to pastry. Bummed.
I ordered the brekki. Food was delicious, however I ordered gluten free and subbed the sourdough bread for a gluten free baguette. It was definitely put in as gluten free and had a $1 up charge for GF. When my food came out they had given me the regular sourdough bread instead of gluten free. I almost took a bite without thinking (because I felt safe at this place given all their gluten free items)
It was disappointing because I figured at a place like this they would be much more careful and attentive to their gluten free orders. I asked them to remake my entire plate since it was contaminated, which they did. Food was amazing and bakery items were delish as well. I’ll definitely give this place another shot, I’ll just be careful to check my food.
Excellent food and options. I believe many, if not all pastries are GF. Menu items clearly marked and this appears to be the same Billie's that's in KC.
While the space is large, there is limited seating inside.
Kid's meal is also a great value for the amount received. Could easily feed a hungry teenager.
Billies Grocery is a Celiac’s dream restaurant! There are endless desserts options and everything gluten free is clearly marked on the menu. I’ve had the carnitas bowl, cupcakes, and OG brownie and all are so good. I haven’t had a reaction and I’ve eaten here a couple times now. It’s the perfect place to indulge in sweets you haven’t eaten in a while being gluten free.
