This Mexican restaurant chain uses corn tortillas at this location that are mixed with flour and are not gluten free. According to the Area Supervisor I spoke to, although their website states that the chips, tostadas, and tortilla strips are gf, they are not at this location. In addition, their black beans, pinto beans, and rice are also not gluten-free according to their website. Many of their meats, including shredded chicken, are also not gluten free. Lastly, their dressings and sauces are not gluten free. Please review their own website allergen info for further details, but understand that this location has additional items that are not considered to be gluten free by the staff.
They have an allergy menu but just a few gluten free items. I had to wait while they printed out the menu. I had to ask the food preparer to put on clean gloves. Food was good and people were cordial but celiac disease is only peripherally on their radar on a good day. Celiacs tread carefully!
We came in yesterday my husband loves cafe rio he had been so excited to eat there. We live in Washington now and don't have any there. I have celiacs and can not eat gluten, they have corn tortilla, chicken, fish even steak for me. The fish looked very dry so I got the chicken. I asked for them to change their gloves and the female who was making it said "I just put them on" I was concerned about the fact that the tortilla that was in the tin had been put there by the person making everyone's food. However she should not have argued about it. At this point my husband took over placing the order. My tostada was the worst I have ever tasted it was a salad with little cheese, chicken and some sour cream.The chicken was hard and dry,after the 3rd bite I gave up. My husband asked them to make the chicken fresh. The line cook/server said it would be 10 minutes to cook. 20 minutes went by and not a single word from the staff about the frsh cooked chicken. When we asked to see a manager the cashier smirked and chuckled but refused to answer us.My husband had the Barbacoa pork quesadilla. It tasted good but only had a small amount of meat.There was only enough meat to barely fill 2/3 of the tortilla. They were taking so long to make mine I said nevermind and we left. Very sad. I paid for a 3rd of quesadilla and 3 bits of a tostada. They were rude and did not even care when I told them to let someone know Never mind of the chicken. You should not have to wait 30 mins for chicken and they should have made it the right way to begin with.
I went for lunch and I got a bowl with rice, chicken, lettuce, salsa, and veggies (assuming I would have no problems) I got so sick and that night was still getting sick from it. I looked up their menu online for what contains gluten and basically everything except the lettuce has gluten. even the rice and chicken! I thought that was ridiculous. It was my fault I should have checked ahead of time but I will not be returning!
This place was delicious before I had celiac. I looked at the website and nothing is gluten free. The meat, the tortillas, the dressing, the rice, literally everything has gluten in it. Please don't eat here if you have celiac.
Not gluten free for celiacs. I saw them use the same tongs for gluten and gluten free (also the tongs come in contact with the tortillas so celiacs beware. If you are gluten free as part of the fad diet only the food is very good. Try the pork burrito smothered and the key lime pie
I have celiac disease and have eaten at cafe rio with no problems. Some of their foods contain gluten, some do not. I have success when ordering a meal I know is gluten free and asking the workers to change their gloves. The setup of a lot like Chipotle. but, unfortunately it is not a gluten free environment and not entirely safe for people like myself who have celiac disease.
Ugh. I ate a steak salad and passed on the tortilla. So lettuce, pico, corn strips, cilantro and steak. Made me really sick before even getting home. I'm thinking the cross contamination is horribly large.
Zero stars for this place. The staff were unknowledgeable and acted put out to have make a gluten free meal. The food we ordered ( nachos with black beans and guacamole) caused a gluten reaction even though we were told we would be safe.
I assumed this would be similar to Costa Vida with lots of gluten-free options. Unfortunately I was wrong and got very sick after eating there. After looking at their website, I discovered that everything I ate there had gluten in it! Their website recommends eating a salad with grilled chicken and no rice, beans, tortilla, or dressing. I won't be going back.
I don't even know why this is on here. They move you through the line so quickly that you don't even get a response when you say you are gluten free. They don't seem to care either when you say it. I gave it two tries and both times got very sick. If you want real gluten free mexican, go to costa vida. They are awesome about it. But keep an eye on them. Sometimes the young, new employees don't get it yet.
Don't eat hear if you have Celiac or wheat issues. Everything has gluten including all the dressings and they don't get it. Go to Costa Vida. They have been trained and promote GF. Don't get me wrong, Cafe Rio is great for non-GF people.
