Had the most amazing meal at this restaurant. Our server Timothy made me feel right at home about eating gluten free. He said that they could do any of the pastas and any protein in a safe manner. I had the special of Seared Scallops over Risotto with pea tendrils. It was divine! True Italian atmosphere, and an extensive wine list.
Absolutely wonderful experience!
There are several options on the menu and our server was very knowledgeable. They are able to make any non layered or non stuffed pasta with GF penne, all sauces are GF, and of course seafood and meat and risotto are GF, as well as salads. They can even make a few other breaded dishes GF.
I had to skip out on appetizers and soups but that was OK with me because everything else was wonderful!
They had 3/4 GF desserts.
I ate: Italian Chopped Salad, the scallop and risotto special of the evening, and crème brûlée. I also had a dirty martini with Tito’s.
Everything was delicious and the staff was very aware of what was safe to eat and went out of their way to walk me through all items (specials included) and callout what is safe versus not. Highly recommend!
Knowledgeable staff, good gluten free food, and many options. They do have gluten free pasta
I have only had positive experiences here, the manager is aware of Celiac and cooks all the gluten free pasta in fresh water and clean pots. I have only ordered pasta (with my favorite being the Penne Ala Vodka) and have never been sick. I always tell my waiter I have a gluten allergy and for them to tell the chef!
The hostess was amazing, knew from our reservation that our sons have Celiac and held the bread service plus informed our waiter ahead of time. The waiter didn’t know a ton about what substitutions could be safely so it was up to me to ask questions and make the decision. They both had the GF pasta with one of the standard sauces, and crème brûlée for dessert. Delicious!
I’ve gone here a few times. First time was a good experience! Pasta choice was pretty limited but the atmosphere and service made up for it.
The last time, I was assured that my pasta would come out on a different colored plate and that my dish could be made gluten free. When it arrived it wasn’t on a different color red plate. I clarified with the waitress and she assured me it was gluten free. Got so sick after. Will not be eating here again. There’s safer options to get italian on the hill for those with celiac!
Charlie Gitto's is a great place to go for a nice dinner or celebration. The staff is very knowledgable about substitutions that need to be made. One of the nicest Italian restaurants in St. Louis!!
