I took a chance because it’s been so long since I’ve been able to eat gumbo. Now I wish I hadn’t. It was not good. I got a side of jambalaya and it didn’t look anything like what jambalaya is supposed to look like in SELA. The food had no seasoning. Even my husband and kids did not enjoy their meals (which were not GF). Do yourself a favor and just don’t.

The red beans and rice with sausage was very good. Unfortunately, I found the gumbo to be the worst I’ve ever had. Couldn’t finish the bowl. Which was heartbreaking because I love gumbo and haven’t been able to eat it in years.
Yes
Great etouffee and red beans and rice. Good flavor. My friend said the jambalaya was among the best she has tasted and she is from the area. Waitress knowledgeable about gluten free and changing gloves.
Yes
Waitress was very knowledgeable and went to double check that they had a gluten free version of the seafood gumbo. The menu was very good at pointing out exactly what is gluten free adaptable.
Yes
Fantastic!! The staff and Ron are amazingly friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Everything was excellent! Will definitely make a trip back. (Be sure to let them know gluten free from the beginning and they will help you know everything that is gluten free.)
Yes
Nice little shop but only one gumbo is actually gluten free. And it has seafood in it. Decent price, just wish there was slightly more variety

Menu marked! Staff took care of me, no reaction and amazing gumbo!

Very accommodating and knowledgeable. Good food fun atmosphere

Many gluten free options including seafood gumbo, shrimp creole, crawfish etouffee, and jambalaya. Delicious and authentic.
Amazing food. Very fresh fish and crab meat. Fried crawfish was great.

Great taste of local Louisiana cuisine for celiacs! They have several classic Cajun dishes and sides that are celiac safe, like gumbo and étouffée. I tried the crawfish étouffée, a dish I haven’t had since my Cajun grandmother made it for me over 10 years ago. It was very good. The red beans and rice side was also tasty.
The chef/owner is normally in the kitchen and the staff reassured me that it’s very important that they don’t cross-contaminate Celiac/gf orders. (Apparently, a family member of his has celiac.)
They get docked a star, tho, because there was a miscommunication and I was served a plate of normal étouffée, but the chef caught it as it was being put in front of me. Three minutes and a sincere apology later, and my gf meal was served. I was relatively anxious after the mishap, but I did not get sick. Eat here!!

Local food with a knowledgeable staff that made sure we ate safely. Did not get sick, so they did their job will!

Such good New Orleans food! I’m df along with having celiac and I ate great. When you pull up it’s a hole in the wall restaurant, but was very safe to eat. Must visit!

Outstanding food and service! I cannot speak highly enough of Chef Ron's!Two visits to NOLA this year and have had the gluten free crawfish etouffee, blackened alligator appetizer, and the gluten free gumbo - all delicious! Excellent food and very helpful and knowledgeable wait staff. They do not have a separate gluten free menu, but the servers can tell you the options easily. They are cautious to avoid cross contamination, but be sure you let them know if you have a medical issue such as Celiac or allergies.

I'm from Germany and we are on a Roadtrip from Chicago to Florida. Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop Restaurant was so deliciouse and awesome. They had a lot of Gluten Free Meals. The Costumers are verry friendly and helpfull. You have to go there;)
Yes
Chef Ron is awesome! We had the gluten free gumbo which tasted extraordinary. Very friendly and available customer service. We will absolutely be going back for the wide variety that is offered. Highly recommend this place.
Always good food, and I've never gotten sick! This place is "THE BEST". 5 ⭐s, Chef Ron!
Delicious Gumbo and the servers are very knowledgeable and friendly!

We stopped on our way into New Orleans for a visit. It was so good we stopped on the way out too! They offered gluten free fried shrimp, which I had both times. (I got the feeling - though no one said anything - they're happier to do it for multiple orders, which is understandable.) It's on our list for every time we go now!

Chef Ron welcomed us in tonight I had a feeling that this would be a good experience from that moment and he didn't let us down. I have Celiac and was able to enjoy the BEST gumbo and some really good crawfish étouffée.
My husband, who is not gluten free, enjoyed this place and the bread pudding. I wish I could eat that! My only thing I wish was different was that he made gluten free bread pudding ;).
We will be back here!!!

Gumbo was delicious

I was so excited about this place but I need to caution you - they are not well set up to handle gluten free people during busy hours. The menu has NO mention of gluten free items, there is no separate gf menu, and the waitress misinformed me and I was poisoned. Only the seafood gumbo is gf, not ALL the gumbo. The jambalaya is, but most other items are deep fried or pasta or sandwiches. For a restaurant with a gigantic sign outside indicating they are gluten free friendly, they should at least mark the gf items on their menu. I was really upset with my experience. The chef was "sorry" but really folks, have a protocol!

First stop in New Orleans, Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop. I always enjoy his food. It's nice to have a Chef in a different state that knows all your allergies and make special dishes you. Best gluten free and shell fish free gumbo and étouffée.
Yes
Gumbo to die for. Jambalaya not far behind. And the friendly staff makes you so comfortable that you'll feel like these culinary works are appearing right in your living room. Oh, and Celiac-approved.
Yes
I was thrilled to find gluten free gumbo and jambalaya so that my kids could try regional cuisine. There were many gluten free options at a reasonable price. I should add that the gumbo is some of the best I have had gluten free or otherwise. Our non gluten free friends were happy with their meals as well. The portions are generous and did I mention delicious. Chef Ron took the time to talk to me and we discussed why he began serving the gluten free community. In short, because he recognized the need. Wow!!! Would definitely return.

Came here for a quick lunch after reading the reviews and it did not disappoint! I had a asalad and gumbo and it was wonderful! Chef Ron has it right!!
We flew into New Orleans and needed somewhere to eat so I fired up my Find me GF app and it led us to Chef Ron's! I can't say enough wonderful things about Chef Ron's! The food was amazing!! We had a group of four and we all had delicious dishes!! I had the GF sausage jambalaya with red beans. I am a super sensitive Celiac and I rarely go out to eat because of this. I Did NOT get sick after I ate and for me that is rare! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Chef Ron came out and talked with us, took pictures with me and got just excited as I did that I could eat his delicious food!! This place made this Celiac very happy!!!!

Excellent staff, very helpful; excellent food. It's a great local hole in the wall full of New Orleans flair. My first time eating gumbo, I had the seafood and hubby had the sausage and chicken. It was good but I don't think I'd have it again, or any gumbo. the jambalaya is a different story. Excellent.

Great gumbo, super nice folks!

Stumbled upon this gem on our last day in NOLA. And we were SO impressed by the friendliness of the wait staff. When I mentioned I have celiac they knew exactly what menu items were celiac friendly and without asking, the waiter even mentioned that there would be no chance of cross-contamination. Super impressed, very cheap and the best Cajun we've had our entire trip!!
Yes
Even though most of the reviews here are great 5 star reviews, that was not my experience at all. The chef did not come to our table, the wait staff was not friendly and did not seem to know anything about celiac or even gluten sensitivity. When I asked if they served any gluten free fried seafood, the girl looked at me like I was nuts and said no. After I mentioned these reviews and actually showed her pictures, she said oh they can only do gluten free fried foods sometimes, before the pan's get used. There were very few GF options. I had the gumbo, which was not that great. The food is over priced too. This place is a dive!! Will not return.

Best gumbo I've had GF or not! It's been tough coming to NOLA after having to go GF. Servers very knowledgable and friendly. Also had the jambalaya- wonderful too!
After reading other reviews I knew we had to stop here while in New Orleans and I am so glad we did! Sadly they were out of the gluten free gumbo so I got the crawfish étouffée which I had never had before it was a little on the spicy side for me but still very delicious. The red beans and rice were also very good. The waitress was friendly and was able to show me the gluten free options. Chef Ron was not working that night but it would have been great to interact with him like many others have. Overall great experience trying some good southern food.
Yes
The gumbo is fantastic and you can't even tell its gluten free! They use sausage, shrimp, crawfish, and rice in it. My boyfriend who doesn't have a gluten allergy and grew up in New Orleans said it was one of the best gumbos that he's tried! I highly recommend it! Note: the specialty food does take a while to be out because they will make it for you right away if they don't have it pre-made

We stopped based on all the amazing reviews and were disappointed to find that they had just sold out of the GF Gumbo. We started to leave, but the waiter stopped us and said that many other items were already GF. We went a little crazy with our order and got Red Beans & Rice, Jambalaya and Shrimp Creole (For three people) each also came with a side. It was a crazy amount of food, but so delicious. Very nice staff and great food.
Delicious food! Great gf accommodations and wonderful customer service. A must to go when visiting NOLA!
What a treat! so nice to have a real chef cook gluten free local soecialities. I will be back!
It was great to finally try some real Louisiana cuisine! The chef was able to make most of the rice dishes gluten free. I had a great red beans and rice dish and every one else loved their food, too. I'll definitely return.
AMAZING! Had the gluten free gumbo and the jambalaya. Being New Year's Eve, they were incredibly busy, yet the staff was attentive and knowledgeable! Worth the wait!

I've been to several places that had a GF menu but this place really does. The GF seafood gumbo was delicious. And they can make several other items on their menu GF, including crawfish étouffée. Had I known that the crawfish was going to taste that good I would've ordered. Enjoy GF friends!
Yes
I had a good meal including gluten free gumbo but I didn't have a stellar service experience. Server didn't seem particularly knowledgeable. I think if the chef happens to be there it's a different experience.
Delightfully surprised by the flexibility of the chef! So happy and NO reaction AT ALL!
Yes
chef Ron came out to ask if we liked the food... YES WE DID!! Jambalaya, gumbo and all the sides. VERY GOOD!! Love this place!
Amazing. This is the first place I was ever able to try gumbo. Absolutely delicious. Very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. Jambalaya is great too.
