Staff is very cautious about cross contamination and happy to answer questions about prep. From what I understand, the owner has a Celiac in their family so they're knowledgeable. I've eaten here so many times and never got sick. The only thing with gluten is the regular Mac and cheese shells and gluten buns, but those are made and handled in a different pot and separate part of the kitchen. They also have excellent customer service. They sell out on Thursdays usually because of Trivia night. Super stoked about Chubbs!

Ok, so for those of us who had to give up our favorite foods know that one thing that is pretty much of our menus forever is fried chicken. Unless we make it ourselves. Chubs chicken is all gluten free (whether you order it that way or not. And if you get the sandwich, you will need to specify. Because they do offer both regular and gluten free buns. Here's the thing..... Expect a new addiction! It's so good! They aren't open everyday, and they are so good, that they often run out before closing. But it's worth it!

Super hearty and filling. I'm impressed that even the gravy on the mashed potatoes is gluten free. Bonus points for plentiful outdoor seating and a public bathroom.

Do not miss a chance to come get one of their chicken sandwiches! It was the best treat I’d had for a long time! It was cooked to perfection. I got it with the Nashville hot and man, I will be craving that sandwich forever until I can go back to Santa Cruz! The only downside to this place is that they aren’t everywhere! The staff was sweet, the environment was to die for - very eclectic art like a gallery, outside patio, the works. It was a little confusing to find, you have to go in through the back gate and then it’s just a huge communal space shared with a few different little places to choose from. Ring the bell to grab their attention and they are quick to get you taken care of. But seriously, GO! Do not pass this place up if you’re in the area!

When I said I had celiac, they prepared the whole order gluten free so I could try everything. Just yummy! We grabbed something to drink from the bar next door and sat outside which was also nice

Got the gf fried chicken sandwich and mashed potatoes. They told me they use a different fryer for the chicken and the owners mom has an allergy to they really care and take cross contamination seriously. Food was 10/10 amazing!!!!

Chubb’s is the best. Really delicious dark meat fried chicken. Not the best fried chicken I’ve had but the best GF I’ve had that I didn’t make at home.

Incredible!! Everything on the menu can be gluten free! And is soooo good! And the bun is the best gf bun I’ve ever had! I missed fried chicken!!! And gf meals that don’t taste “gluten free” and sad haha.

Most amazing chicken and completely safe for people with celiac. The bun unfortunately was a little small and the cheese sauce on the mac n' cheese was a bit watery compared to the other people with the gluten containing mac n cheese but I would still return just for the fried chicken. Super friendly kitchen staff as well.

Best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had, period. Even the non-gf people who ate with me thoroughly enjoyed it. Their servings of chicken tenders were huge!

They take care to make sure your order is completely gluten free if you ask. They have a protocol to ensure minimal contamination. It’s such a big deal to be able to order anything on the menu and have the gluten bun & pasta be optional.

Next time I’m in the area, I’ll be back!!

The wife and I drove 49 miles to grub and these tasty fried chicken sandwiches. The best part gluten free buns. So if your reading I recommend you to sit down and eat a chicken sandwich.

This place is amazing! Everything on the menu can be made gluten free. The only things on the menu that aren’t gluten free are the gluten buns and mac and cheese. They assured me that they have a dedicated fryer and had one worker in the back who handles gluten and one who doesn’t touch any gluten all day. They have one side of the kitchen with gluten and one without. When my sandwich was ready, the employee informed me that he hadn’t touched any gluten his whole shift.

I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with coleslaw and it was seriously one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! I’ve had Celiac since I was a teenager and have never had a hot chicken sandwich before and this place did not disappoint. It had a super fluffy and fresh bun, crispy hot chicken, amazing coleslaw and sriracha Mayo. I visited this restaurant while on a work trip to Santa Cruz and I might have to take a trip back here just to get another one of these sandwiches!

We ordered 1 GF hot chicken sandwich w/ GF Mac & cheese & 1 GF regular chicken sandwich w/fries. Bomb, bomb , bomb ! You won’t regret coming here . Definitely coming back soon! The Mac & cheese was super cheesy. The GF bun was the best I’ve had so far . Fries were also crispy & delicious ! They have a bar inside , a coffee shop , with beautiful plants everywhere.

We were so excited to try this place after reading the reviews and it did not disappoint! The gentleman that took our order was very kind and thorough when taking the GF portion of our order. My 9 year old celiac son was beyond excited when he saw Mac and cheese marked GF on the menu! We all loved our orders! Chicken sandwiches were awesome! Note: you walk up and order at the window, then pick up when it’s ready. People were walking up all through the time we were there. Some just pulling up, double parked, to grab their orders. Definitely seemed like a local favorite. We can’t wait to come back when we visit again!

Our 10 year-old son has celiac and we visit Santa Cruz regularly to see family. We’re so happy that this restaurant is here! The nice young man taking our order told me that his mom is GF, which is one of the reasons they dedicated 1/2 of their kitchen to gluten free food. He helpfully pointed out to me the half where GF food is prepared. The menu clearly indicates that the kitchen is not dedicated and they can’t guarantee there’s no cross-contamination, and my interpretation of this notice is that they’re being very careful and conscientious. Yes, they can’t guarantee it, but I also think they’re likely to do a much better job than most of the restaurants that don’t include this note. Our son (for better and worse) doesn’t have immediately apparent gluten symptoms, so the fact that he ate it without reaction is neither here nor there. But the care in the kitchen is certainly very good.

And the food! So tasty. Our whole family loved the fried chicken sandwiches. My husband had the spicy sandwich, I had one with coleslaw, and our kids had them plain (all GF). They were terrific! Not a bite left. We also had sides of french fries, potato salad and GF Mac and cheese. All great!

The restaurant shares a larger venue with a bar (no GF beers, but wine and cocktails) and a coffee shop. Big indoor and outdoor dining areas, which were very comfortable and had a nice vibe on a Saturday evening.

Highly recommend!

I’ve lived in some foodie cities before Santa Cruz and this is the one place that can meet my high expectations! Amazing chicken, great GF bun, good fresh salad, tasty mashed potatoes. And they always give us separate bags for GF and non. Just love them. Hope they expand their menu (they teased that they might offer chicken fingers if they can get another fryer) and continue to grow! I’m so happy someone finally realized you don’t even need gluten to make tasty fried chicken. Lots of love for them.
