Stopped at Clydes after reading reviews on here. It’s a little diner with great service. We ordered two hamburgers and fries. Hamburger was huge and on a GF bun. They took careful precautions and food was delicious. I feel like they took more care and had more gf options than most restaurants in a big city I live in. Thank you Clydes, we will be back!!
My husband and I are both very gluten sensitive, and we had a wonderful experience at Clyde's Drive In. They have a dedicated fryer and do a good job of preventing cross contamination. Their double burger on a gluten free bun was my husband's favorite dining experience of our vacation.
My Son and I, both Celiacs, had no issues eating here. It's so great to be able to share this UP classic with him. They have dedicated fryers, are diligent about prep and are well informed in their processes as the owner's daughter has Celiacs.
We are at Clyde’s twice while one town. The first time I had a cheeseburger, they made us aware the gf fryer had been compromised. The second night the oil had been changed and I was able to enjoy chicken tenders and fries. My food came out in a separate bag marked gf. Very good choice, as there isn’t much here.
Had my first hamburger since being diagnosed celiac last month. Couldn't believe it when I found out Clyde's has a full gf menu. The owner's daughter is celiac, so they get it. GF buns, separate gf fryer, good protocols. They use Udi's buns from the freezer, microwaved in their individual packages.
Now, I will say, we watched the kitchen prepare the food, and if you are sensitive to cross-contamination, you could have issues. The burgers are cooked on the same grill where the non-gf buns are grilled. The lettuce, tomato, and onions come out of bins where the kitchen workers have touched a regular bun and then reached in the container to get toppings. This applies only to the burgers. The chicken fingers are good to go, as they are fried in the separate gf fryer.
They did great with changing gloves to handle the gf food and keeping the food on a clean paper while preparing it. The gf fries were incredible! I cried at having a hamburger at a regular restaurant
I had no issues, but if you're super sensitive, you might.
Edited to add that we went back to Clyde’s and did not have the same positive experience. The person taking our order explained their protocols to avoid cross contact but those were not followed because my celiac daughter is very sick. I know that mistakes happen but we will not be returning.
We had a great experience at Clyde’s! When I asked for the gluten free menu, they explained their protocol to prevent cross contact. The eat-in area is small but you can watch them prepare the food from most seats. The oil had been accidentally contaminated earlier in the day so we were unable to get fried foods but we appreciate that the staff was aware and told us. The burger was delicious!
They have gluten free buns as options for their burgers and a dedicated fryer for their fries and sweet potato fries. Ask for the separate gluten free menu. It has gluten free chicken tenders on it. They are so delicious!! I didn’t get sick at all. I would definitely recommend eating here!!
This place is a hidden gem for gluten free food! I never would have expected to find gluten free at a hole in the wall place but they have a large gf menu, a dedicated frier and are very familiar with celiac and know to keep food separate. The food was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend!!
