I've successfully eaten here many times. Fries are safe, gf buns are good, and they have a couple vegan burger options. When ordering online or in store on the tablet, I write "celiac" instead of my last name (as staff recommended) and have had zero issues with cross contamination. Definitely recommend!
Good in a pinch if you need food. Their GF buns were out if stock. If order for a kid, be aware it’s pepper bacon…boycotted by many children. 😂
*UPDATE* - I called Coastline after reading recent bad reviews from Mark and GFMom below. They were aware of the reviews and wanted to clarify. They won’t guarantee no cross-contamination obviously, but they do take care with prep if you tell them you are celiac. The gf fryer is next to the regular one. They won’t put your GF bun in the same area or on equipment with the regular buns. If you order online, they said to write the word CELIAC as your last name and then call to give them a heads up. They did say they are no longer putting GF items in a separate bag because of the cost of bags which is so ridiculous and stingy. Like, it’s a paper bag for crying out loud.
This review is for the West Seattle location. I’ve eaten there many times and had good experiences. When I called initially to ask about their protocol, the person on the phone didn’t miss a beat and explained everything. They clearly have a system in place. They have separate fryers for the fries and onion rings, so fries are safe. And the milkshakes are safe as well! I verified that the brand of pickles they use are safe, though I don’t remember now which brand! They have gluten free buns which are toasted on a grill where no other gluten goes (the regular buns go in a toaster). When you place your order, let them know you have celiac disease and they will change gloves, etc for your order. Heads up: the gluten free buns look so much like regular buns, at first I was afraid they’d made a mistake! The regular buns have a smoother top, and the GF ones have a more textured appearance. I feel confident eating here.
My son is celiac and we have eaten at this location for years! In the pst the owner has been wonderful and ensured us that the burgers and fries are safe. I think during covid protocols have changed as you have to order yourself and there isn’t anywhere to denote Celiac or medically necessary no gluten. I asked and was told this week they can’t guarantee the safety of their food they put the gf buns on the grill as well as grill cheese with gluten bread. We walked out and my son was bummed but it’s not worth the risk.
Dedicated fryer for fries but they did mention that it’s right next to the one they use for fried chicken so there’s a small chance some flour particles could fall into the dedicated fryer. They proactively mentioned that they would change gloves and said that their milkshakes were gluten free.
I called 24 hours ahead of time to confirm what food was safe for celiacs and what menu items to avoid, and no call back. We showed up to order at the kiosk in their lobby (due to covid) and asked the guy at the counter questions. He looked like he had NO CLUE was gluten allergies and Celiac even was and his response was "I think all the sauces are safe." We asked him to double check and ask someone else that he worked with and he came back with "all the sauces should be safe but can't guarantee due to cross contamination made in same kitchen. I asked if they changed gloves or how they handled celiac and he was like "yeah". So we had no other options and just placed our order. They said fries were in a separate fryer but when our order came, placed them in the bag with gluten buns (for my daughter) and not in the GF bag for my husband. He didn't have any reaction though, everything was fine. He got The Rojo burger on GF bun, honey mustard and coastline secret sauce plus the fries, he even tried the strawberry milkshake (which was the best shake I have ever had). No reactions, he felt fine and made out well.
I put in an order using their app and noted on my order the items that were for a person with Celiac Disease. When I arrived, my order was ready and they had placed all of the GF items in a separate bag. They told me that their fryer isn’t guaranteed GF because they do have breaded onion rings that are used next to the fryer but that only the fries (which are GF) actually go into the fryer. My son is super sensitive to cross contamination and he did not get sick!! He had a GF bun (which he liked and I thought was actually better tasting than the non-GF bun) and fries. It was actually really exciting for us to be able to get take out burgers and have my son not get sick. We pretty much never can do that. Will definitely go here again.
While they are not GF-dedicated, they do take precautions to minimize cross contamination. Also, their fries are fried in a dedicated fryer, however they mentioned there is a risk of cross contamination from normal kitchen operations. I'm very sensitive and did not have a reaction. The gluten free buns for the burgers were okay. Overall, I was pleased.
