Ate here yesterday. I repeatedly asked about gluten-free items offered and was repeatedly assured that the peanut sauce, the crispy rolls and all of the pho options were gluten free. I specifically asked about soy sauce versus tamari and was told that they use a gluten-free soy sauce. However I was sick within 20 minutes of my food. Not gluten-free, definitely not Celiac safe. Tastes great, but being sick is just not worth it. Very sad that I was reassured under false pretenses. Wish proprietors would be more aware of what gluten-free actually means.
I ended up eating here two separate times on my trip to Seattle because the food was so amazing! Everything on the menu is clearly labeled. There is a dedicated frier. The soy sauce is home made and does not contain gluten. Gluten free hoisin sauce is available. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I got the vegetarian pho, garlic butter chicken wings, rocket prawn, and fresh tofu spring rolls. The next time I got the veggie fried rolls, gluten free tofu bahn mi, and the black pepper tofu.
I walked out of this restaurant as the gluten free and vegetarian options for celiac were very limited. All fried items are NOT fried in a dedicated fryer. The pho has fried tofu and they said they can't pan fry it or do anything other than take the tofu out. I didn't like how they made such bold claims with confidence saying that even though the fryer is the same, it's 100% safe for those with celiac and allergies. Cross contamination is definitely not safe for celiac. Better to be honest and upfront of the risks rather than make claims that are utterly untrue.
I was excited to try this place based on these reviews, but it did not live up to my expectations. When I asked the server about the fried items marked gluten free, he told me they are NOT cooked in a dedicated fryer. He said they are cooked in a shared fryer with gluten items and I quote “but other people have eaten them and not had any problems so it should be okay.” Excuse me? I asked him twice to make sure I didn’t mishear him. I told him the cross-contamination would not be okay for me.
I ended up ordering the shrimp fresh rolls and the beef pho. The rolls came with a dipping sauce that had fried onions on top. When I asked the woman who dropped it off she said “yeah, that sauce should be gluten free.” Should be? Nah, I didn’t eat it. Just ate the fresh rolls plain and ate my beef pho. I didn’t have a reaction, but honestly I won’t be back. Too much carelessness for me.
Used GrubHub to ordered from this restaurant, which may have been my mistake, however I haven’t had issues using DoorDash or GrubHub in the past to order food. Ordered the chicken porridge, additional ingredients stating which an egg, lime, bean sprouts, and Chinese doughnuts, after which the “gluten free” label is written. Then I wrote that I have a severe gluten allergy. The food arrived and I took a bite of the Chinese doughnut which tasted like something that contained regular flour so, I called the restaurant and they informed me that the doughnuts are not gluten free. The doughnuts were touching the other additional ingredients so I had to toss those items. Once I started eating the porridge I discovered breaded onions in the mix as well. Very disappointed given the reviews about how aware this restaurant is of the gluten free diet and gluten intolerances. Perhaps if I had gone to the restaurant in person there would have been more consideration and awareness but I do not recommend having this restaurant deliver to you if you have celiac.
I’d never had banh mi before and it was amazing. Lots of gluten free options and overall possibly the best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had. (If I were to use my gluten free expertise, I would guess that the bread they use is the Against the Grain baguette and it works really well with the sandwich)
I saw a tik tok video of this review and found out about many of the gluten free options. We tried the gluten free fried spring rolls which I had not been able to eat for years now as a celiac. The pho broth that came with the banh mi sandwich was the best broth I’ve ever had. have never tried Pho outside of WA so don’t have your expectations too high!) The gf baguette was superior to most all gf bread I’ve had. I don’t know where this bread comes from but I’d love to know who the baker is. My daughter enjoyed the prawns with gf vermicelli noodles. The only recommendation I’d say is to get something other than the French fries.
Your food is great and there are ton of gluten-free options. But definitely check the website versus the waiter as there is a language barrier with many. The website menu is more accurate than the in person menu.
I asked if the pan fried tilapia was gluten-free and they said it was safe— this section of dishes it wasn’t labeled on the in person menu. But then I had a reaction over the next few days. Stick to what you can see is gluten-free on the website menu and there is a lot to eat. I would go back
First time trying Vietnamese food and it was pretty good. My waiter wasn’t the most knowledgeable about gluten free options and told me the truffle fries were safe, although after reading reviews on here I checked and he said the fries were fried in the same fryer as the crab wontons, so they are not safe to eat if you are Celiac. I ordered the noodles and it was pretty good. They have a lot of options, but make sure you communicate your allergy clearly.
Some delicious food here. Even if you've never had viet food before, you will love coba's extensive selection of gf options. Fans of other types of Asian cuisine will appreciate their lettuce wraps (sans peanuts, tbh) and gf crispy rolls. Fans of viet food in general will appreciate GF pho and bhan mi options.
Love their bun (protein over rice noodles), another delicious dish.
Secretly one of the best menu items- try the bo kho. Beef stew with rice noodles, fragrant and deeeeelightful, bo kho features cinnamon and lemongrass notes among chunks of carrot, beef and onions with a special sauce.
Don't take my word for it, just try it.
I called before placing a Doordash order and the person I spoke to assured me that the veggie pho was gluten free and that the tofu is fried in a separate fryer than the crab rangoon. The pho was delicious! It even came with hoisin marked gluten free. Much of the menu is gluten free and you can even get a GF bahn mi. I will be ordering from here again!
Amazing gluten free selections! The gluten free baguette used for the Bahn Mi is SO good. I just went back twice in a row because I enjoyed the gf options so much. All GF menu items are labeled clearly. I’ll be back again soon!
Stop what you're doing and go get a meal at Coba right now! This Vietnamese restaurant is an absolute gem. Everything on the menu is gluten free except for the wontons and the Chinese donut. They use gluten free soy sauce by default, so even things like the hoisin sauce on the table is gluten free. I had the most amazing meal there, filled with the type of dishes I thought I'd never be able to eat again, and had no reaction. Their menu is huge and everything is delicious. They have pho, rice bowls, and EVEN A GLUTEN FREE BAHN MI! Definitely my new regular spot.
