Was very excited for this place. Was disappointed.
Do not go here if you’re dairy free.
They use butter in most things, including their rice, and we’re not accommodating (and a little rude) when we requested to make changes.
Had a separate gf menu. Gf food was good! Enjoyed the meat plate and oysters.
If you ask they have a dedicated gluten free menu. Friendly staff and they are knowledgeable.
The food was good and service was excellent. There are two restaurants next to each other with the same name. One is Restaurant and one is Butcher. We did not realize that and we were actually wanting the Butcher part of it. We had teen boys with us and there's not much on the menu for a picky eater at the Restaurant part.
The food here is outstanding - one of the best meals we’ve ever had since needing a gf accommodation! It’s flavorful, portioned well and there are many gluten free options provided on a specific gluten free menu. Our waitress was excellent, had a strong knowledge of how the menu items were modified to be gluten free and gave us suggestions based on our inquiries. We had the Pork & Mellon for an appetizer and it was our favorite dish of the night! The blend of flavors was on point. The Catfish Courtbouillon is naturally gluten free and was delicious. We also tried side dishes of Bacon braised Lima beans and Green beans with pork, both were amazing. The atmosphere was warm and modern. The only room for improvement from a gf standpoint would be to offer a substitute bread before the meal. Dinner rolls are served complimentary, and for those who don’t need gf, they are really really good! (I’m not gf, my husband is, so I tried them.)
If we visit New Orleans again, we will definitely visit Cachon for another fabulous dinner!
There was a dedicated gluten free menu with tons of options and the server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
The food was exceptional— every single dish we ordered (baked oysters, baby back ribs, block of cured meats, carrots, rack of lamb, grits, green beans) was so delicious it was mind boggling, especially the sides.
There were three mix ups back to back where the kitchen brought out the non-gluten free versions. The server and the manager both corrected it right away and apologized profusely, giving us a bottle of the pickles that we complimented from their butcher shop and a complimentary dessert.
We could tell that mix up doesn’t happen often and they took it very seriously.
Great experience! They had a dedicated gluten free menu and our waitress, Mary Ashley, was very knowledgeable. We had the head cheese (sans crackers and mustard) that was very good and then I had the gf Cochon dish that was very flavorful. Would highly recommend a visit for lunch!
So, while it's good they have a gluten free menu, they brought me an appetizer with the mustard sauce the gluten free menu said contained gluten. When I asked the waiter, he said that was right and they'd replace it without the sauce. 15 minutes go by, and then the waiter says the sausage was mistakenly on
the GF menu so it wasn't safe for me to eat. If I had not questioned the server, ai would have had a double dose of gluten!
The server was lovely and the restaurant is trying, but their actual performance with respect to eating gluten free was poor.
Also, I did not love that my swordfish was not cooked all the way through. It was half raw.
A GF menu is available upon request and many of the items can prepared accordingly. The food was excellent! The namesake Cochon with dirty rice and collards were amazing and ordered a side of lime beans that were very good as well. The staff was mostly knowlwdgable but would suggest asking questions and being informative to them since at times, they appeared to be confused.
Also, there is an extension of the restaurant called Butcher which is more casual. It appears to be more sandwich oriented so not sure about GF options.
Very aware of celiac and cross contamination. The bartender took a menu to the chief and he personally marked what I could and couldn’t eat. I was pleasantly surprised! There’s actually a ton of options. I had never been to NOLA and wanted to try some creole food, so I was pumped that I wasn’t stuck with a salad. It was awesome.
The first time we ate there was amazing. The chef created a wonderful GF vegetarian dish for me. We had a three course meal with excellent service. The second time was a disaster. They were not knowledgeable and ended up serving me a warm salad and charging me for a premium entree (in addition to the starter salad). Had to flag down waiter to get a drink refill, and the manager was not any help either.
Very knowledgeable about celiac and I did not get sick. I am also vegan and I knew a place with a meat-only menu might be difficult. The waiter knew exactly what vegan was and told me the kitchen would create something great. Well, they basically gave me a plate of assorted cheeses. In their defense, when I pointed it out, they apologized and quickly fixed it, and brought me out a delicious plate of veggies with spices. But, it was $23 and I was still hungry when I left.
Doesn’t have a dedicated GF menu but the staff was extremely knowledgeable. They physically marked all the GF entrees in pen for me on my menu. At least half of the menu was GF. When the food came out the person who delivered it to our table specifically stated everything was GF before I asked. Best meal I’ve had in New Orleans.
