Eat here all the time and it is always delicious. staff know what you are talking about and change their gloves. I always get the sweet pork nachos and it never disappoints. I would definitely recommend. delicious!!!!

I came in, ordered some enchiladas with corn tortillas and before I could even say something, the server asked if I waned them made gluten friendly and when I said yes he immediately changed his gloves. Lots of gluten free options and very knowledgeable servers
A lot of cross contamination. Tongs touch wheat tortillas then go into each gluten free meat container, placing gluten into a gluten free option.
Very gf conscious. The guy washed his hands, and changed his gloves twice. I was very impressed.

I love this place. I have eaten here probably 100 times since I went GF and have never gotten sick once. I trust this location more than others though.
I was impressed at how great they are at instantly washing hands and putting on new gloves when I mentioned gluten free. I also loved all the gluten free options. The problem comes with the high amount of cross-contamination going on throughout the day while making non-gluten free items. With gloved hands they grab a flour tortilla placing it in the foil container. They serve up the selection of beans and meat with utensils which touch the tortilla as they spread the beans and meat around. The utensils are then placed back into the beans and meat containers contaminating them. Then, their gloved hands, which previously were used to get a flour tortilla, serve up the remaining selection of toppings. This is all in the same beans, meat, and toppings used for gluten free customers. It's difficult to keep things gluten free with such a high amount of cross-contamination going on all day. I have tried several times to eat there with my family and have gotten sick the majority of times we have eaten there. Not a good experience for me. Should have a separate area or containers to serve gluten free customers from in order to have their food truly gluten free.
Just mention Gluten and the gloves come off and employees wash hands put new gloves on! Awesome! Only 4 items have Gluten. The three desserts and the wheat tortillas.
This used to be my go to place to eat but sadly I have gotten sick one too many times. They do their best but still are not able to always avoid cross contamination. The last time I went, the worker put rice on someone's flour tortilla and spread the rice flat with the spoon causing the spoon to come into contact with the tortilla. That was the last straw for me. I knew I could no longer safely eat there. Makes me so sad because their food is amazing.
Would have given five stars, but we have had one or two small issues here. Usually, it is people taking the meats or beans out, placing it on a tortilla, and then rubbing said meats or beans around, thus contaminating the spoon, and the meats or beans when the spoon is placed back.. The food is fantastic, the staff is friendly, just keep an eye out if you're celiac.
I eat here a lot. There are two things I wish this location would do differently with the food handling; First, have the first person that changed their gloves take my food all the way down the line. Sometimes the 2nd and 3rd employee change their gloves and sometimes they don't (but they use tongs for everything so I usually don't complain as long as they don't touch the food). Other locations have one person handle the entire process but this location for some reason wants to pass the food down. I've had the 2nd person touch the food with gloves that haven't been changed and I make them start over. Second, if ordering nachos, they use the same drawer of chips for GF orders and non-GF orders. Yes, they changed their gloves to get the chips out of the drawer but the last 10 orders before it were with contaminated gloves so the chips themselves are suspect at that point. I've been told by other celiacs that other locations have a dedicated chip drawer for GF orders. So, these are my two complaints with this location.
They have their own gluten free menu and are very conscious of what is made with or around gluten and they use a separate stove to cook their non gluten items in so that celiacs and people sensitive to gluten don't have to worry about cross contamination.
So, you won't find a specific GF menu here, but the website says they have eliminated gluten from all bit a few of their options. If you tell the person assembling your meal you (or in my case, my hubby) are celiac, they will change gloves. My hubby had a shredded beef with cheese burrito in a GF corn tortilla and did not get sick. Good prices, fresh ingredients.
Super good staff. When we ordered corn, thgey immediately asked if we had a gluten allergy. All members washed their hands and changed gloves before touching our plates. Neither of us are sick tonight! Food was good. We had shredded beef enchiladas. Refried beans are a bit spicier than most places, but I mixed spur cream in to make them milder. We will be back!
Cross contamination for sure. This location almost does it right, but misses the mark. When they make my daughters quesadilla, they use the same brush to butter it as everything else, ditto for the pizza slicer they use to cut the quesadilla. We are sad, but won't come back to this location.
I went here the first time and told the manager who was working the kitchen bar about my allergies and he changed his gloves and made my salad, I had no reaction. The food was awesome! Tried to go again today and was in line watching the kitchen staff rub the spoons all over the the flour tortillas as they added the meats, beans and other toppings. I got out of line and left, this place is in no way safe for people with allergies but if you are going gluten free as a diet choice I'd recommend it the food is awesome. Sad I won't be able to go back, I would have been sick had I not seen the staff making people's food in front of me. If you have allergies avoid at all costs!
I'm gluten, dairy, corn and soy free so I wasn't sure what I could find here. I was blown away when the man behind the counter took off his gloves and carefully washed his hands to remove any contamination from the tortillas. With new gloves, he very courteously helped me with my choices. Lettuce, black beans, chicken, guacamole, extra mango salsa and extra cilantro. Makes a wonderful salad. I've eaten there many times and never had problems. So nice to see a fast food restaurant with this kind of attention to special diets.
Read the reviews and was so excited to come here. Food was ok, staff was extremely lackluster. Had no idea about allergies and were all pretty crabby.
Yummy Mexican, including fresh scratch made corn (& flour) tortillas! Fast food environment with homemade quality food in generous portions. After I identified myself as having celiac, I very carefully watched their procedures. The server immediately changed her gloves & I was very pleased with how she handled my delicious meal! Most definitely will be back!
They say they are gluten free but when they use their gluten filled gloves to grab the chips a change of gloves for me won't make a difference. They are already have contaminated them. It happens for most everything I assume because I get sick everytime I eat there. Not safe for celiacs.
We eat at Costa Vida whenever possible. Most everything including the chips are gluten free. our favorite is the sweet pork Baja bowl. This place is fabulous. We eat at locations in Ogden UT, Lee's Summit and Dallas TX. so delicious.
Downgrading my review. They no longer follow strict protocol as they used to. The last few times we went they only had one single GF tortilla left. This was early evening. They no longer have the same person with clean gloves make the entire meal from start to finish. Feeling that they're very lax about GF, wish they'd be more careful. My daughter loves this spot but I won't go back anytime soon.
Very gluten friendly. They do what they can to avoid cross contamination. The only items on the menu that contain gluten are the wheat and white flour tortillas and one of the desserts. They have dedicated areas and tortilla maker for gluten free tortillas and keeping the food.
Not safe for celiac. I watched the cook make and handle the flour tortillas then chop and handle the chicken at the same time. He went back and forth from the chicken to the flour tortillas several times so I'm certain it's contaminated. Not going to risk that so I left without eating.
The worker knew the protocol to change gloves however their knowledge of gluten free cross contamination ended there. The sauce spoons were smeared across flour tortillas and put back in the dish, cheese was taken off of flour tortillas and put back in dish and lettuce was placed on flour tortillas and then back in dish. Super bummed this was not a celiac friendly establishment.
According to the restaurant, everything is gluten free except the flour and wheat tortillas. The grilled chicken enchiladas were tasty. The rice and refried beans were also good. The person that helped us, washed his hands and put on new gloves before preparing our order.
The best sweet pork ever. I have celiac and get terribly I'll if I ingest gluten. This place is head and shoulders above many of their competitors. After watching the preparation of my Baja Bowl, I was so happy with the care taken to keep my meal gluten free. As always, there are about 5% gluten ingredients here so watch the person preparing your meal answer ask for a managers help if you are unsure of your server.
The food was very good the service was great. When I told them I was gf they pulled off their gloves and started changing them with a smile, I didn't even have to ask. I ate there twice without getting sick and I have celiac. It was great to be amble to have nachos.

We have worked diligently to remove wheat gluten from all our sauces, dressings, sauces and proteins. Natural glutens remain only in our flour and wheat tortillas and in two desserts--tres leches and key lime pie. This means that we offer "oceans of gluten-free choices" in our menu. All of these items are gluten-free: all enchiladas, all tacos, all salads (without the flour or wheat tortilla), all nachos, and our chicken tortilla soup...which uses corn strips. And, we can easily make all burritos with corn tortillas, enchilada-style. Just ask!
