We eat here almost on a weekly basis. Our daughter has Celiac and as long as you tell them you need gluten free, they will change their gloves, wash their hands and cook corn tortillas on the grill on foil and be careful going down the line. Some staff are more careful than others so watch them carefully if you go when they are really busy.

I try not to make things too complicated, So asked for a salad with a corn tortilla and the guy asked if it was gluten free. I said yes. He changed his gloves, wiped down the workspace, got my tin from 4/5 down the stack, and got a corn tortilla that was in a different location. He also used the rice and beans from further down the line away from the flour tortillas. In my opinion it was as celiac friendly as you could be when you flour tortillas on the menu.

I explained that I had Celiacs. I got there around lunch time and they did not have corn tortillas & did not even offer a timeline of when they would have anymore. They told me I could have a flour tortilla... very uneducated about Celiacs. VERY DISAPPOINTING

I used to never eat Costa Vida ever anywhere because it seemed like all of them made me sick anywhere every time. I don't know if they changed protocols to anything but for the past year or so all locations have done well. I haven't gotten sick and they all taste fantastic. I am not a big fan of the gf tortillas but that is just me. I usually get the salad with no tortillas at all and ask for extra chips/strips. Occasionally I'll eat the nachos as they are gf on their own. So for any of those who were like me and stayed very clear of them I would say give it a shot you may be able to add another eating out option to your small sad list 😂 😝

The staff is very knowledgeable. The sweet pork is amazing! The prices are a little high considering I didn’t want the sides. I didn’t get sick, so I’m ok with that though.

This used to be my go-to place for lunch during the work day. Ate there several times for years without any problems. However, during the past year or so I've gotten sick every single time I've eaten there. I think where they were once vigilant to keep your order gluten free they aren't quite as careful any more. No dedicated GF area and they use the same spoons and tongs to dish the food onto your plate that they use to dish it on to flour tortillas. You WILL get cross contamination here. If you don't have Celiac you'll be fine, but if you do have Celiac go somewhere else if you don't want to be sick.

I have celiac and this is one of the few places I can eat. They will wash their hands and put new gloves on. Very knowledgeable. Staff have been very well trained. Pretty much everything is gluten free except the flour tortilla. They also have dairy free options. I always order inside to be sure it stays 100% gluten free as I am so sensitive.

They don't have separate cheese or toppings at this location. Didn't get sick - but I couldn't have anything on my enchiladas but sauce. GO TO THE ONE BY SAN TAN MALL. The san tan location has a whole separate hood for allergy toppings so you have many more options.

So I am finally accepting my allergy. I looked up another Mexican restaurant similar to this one and discovered that even the SALSA has gluten in it! The staff here was so accommodating for my allergy and changed their gloves. I learned that pretty much everything there (except the flour tortillas) is gluten free!!!! I’m so happy and so is my stomach!!

Apparently only 4 items on the menu at Costa Vida contain gluten! The employees at this location have been great to work with every time I have eaten here. I ask them to change their gloves because I have Celiac Disease and they are always polite and willing. I have eaten there multiple times since my diagnosis and have not had an issue yet. I normally order the nachos because I am unsure if they cook their corn tortillas on a separate surface than the flour.

I was grateful for the effort of washing and changing gloves, but I still got sick. Cross contamination all over the place. Saw wheat tortiallas draping into the toppings, same utinsels were used that touched the wheat tortillas. If they had seperate toppings used only on GF and its own area I'd come back all the time.

There are some possible chances for cross contamination, but the staff cared enough to pull a new bag of cheese for me and use only one hand for the other topping spoons, being careful not to touch gluten free stuff with that hand. Overall, this place could be scary if the staff weren't so great.

Website had info on what was safe, most of it was. Worker happily changed gloves and went slow to be careful and avoid cross contamination. Some said sauces were spicy but I didn't feel that way. They will give you a chip to try sauces before they put it on your food. So if you're worried about that, try them first. 7 year old celiac daughter was very happy and ate her veggie enchiladas up!

They were quick to change their gloves but they did not prepare the food in a separate area. Same toppings and same utensils used. Cross contamination a large possibility.

This may be my favorite place to go for gf food. As soon as I say "gluten free" they take off their gloves and put on a new pair. They even put tinfoil down to cook my food on so no cross contamination happens. I always get a taco.

I felt confident about my food and is was so good! You have to understand I haven't dared go out to eat for years! Thanks so much for such great GF food!

This used to be my go to place to eat but sadly I have gotten sick one too many times. They do their best but still are not able to always avoid cross contamination. The last time I went, the worker put rice on someone's flour tortilla and spread the rice flat with the spoon causing the spoon to come into contact with the tortilla. That was the last straw for me. I knew I could no longer safely eat there. Makes me so sad because their food is amazing.

Would have given five stars, but we have had one or two small issues here. Usually, it is people taking the meats or beans out, placing it on a tortilla, and then rubbing said meats or beans around, thus contaminating the spoon, and the meats or beans when the spoon is placed back.. The food is fantastic, the staff is friendly, just keep an eye out if you're celiac.

I eat here a lot. There are two things I wish this location would do differently with the food handling; First, have the first person that changed their gloves take my food all the way down the line. Sometimes the 2nd and 3rd employee change their gloves and sometimes they don't (but they use tongs for everything so I usually don't complain as long as they don't touch the food). Other locations have one person handle the entire process but this location for some reason wants to pass the food down. I've had the 2nd person touch the food with gloves that haven't been changed and I make them start over. Second, if ordering nachos, they use the same drawer of chips for GF orders and non-GF orders. Yes, they changed their gloves to get the chips out of the drawer but the last 10 orders before it were with contaminated gloves so the chips themselves are suspect at that point. I've been told by other celiacs that other locations have a dedicated chip drawer for GF orders. So, these are my two complaints with this location.

They have their own gluten free menu and are very conscious of what is made with or around gluten and they use a separate stove to cook their non gluten items in so that celiacs and people sensitive to gluten don't have to worry about cross contamination.

We have worked diligently to remove wheat gluten from all our sauces, dressings, sauces and proteins. Natural glutens remain only in our flour and wheat tortillas and in two desserts--tres leches and key lime pie. This means that we offer "oceans of gluten-free choices" in our menu. All of these items are gluten-free: all enchiladas, all tacos, all salads (without the flour or wheat tortilla), all nachos, and our chicken tortilla soup...which uses corn strips. And, we can easily make all burritos with corn tortillas, enchilada-style. Just ask!
