Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern

Ive been going here to eat since I was young so when I came for the first time since my celiacs and figured out they had a gf menu, I was excited. I got broiled salmon and a baked potato to be cautious and it was great and I didn’t have any bad reactions. I decided to play it safe because the staff didn’t seem very knowledgeable about what dishes actually contained gluten and was a bit shocked by some of the gf options they had such as crab cakes. It was also a bit upsetting when they brought out the bread platter (all contained gluten) and were not very cautious with placing the bread on the plates of the people eating with me. They actually reached over my gf salad with the bread crumbling down on to my food in order to get it to the person sitting next to me. Overall it still has a great atmosphere and delicious food even though the staff isn’t very knowledgeable or cautious when it comes to food allergies.

Be careful! Wait staff is not fully knowledgeable about gluten status of menu items. I was not informed about a GF menu when I told them about my intolerance. When I asked specifically if their shrimp and grits is GF, I was told that it is, but it's definitely not. I discovered that myself after eating it and confirming with the restaurant.

We went based on the excellent reviews on this site. I got the steak and crab cake meal. Crab cake was delicious but the steak was way over cooked and the baked potato was undercooked. The vanilla bean creme brûlée dessert was also delicious. I appreciated the gluten free menu and options and it was the first time I had a crab cake in years. However, given the price of my meal I expected more of the other items.

Excellent and vast gluten free menu! Chicken and crab cakes, she crab soup even! Delicious bananas foster as a unique GF dessert. People have to know this is an option outside of Richmond, VA!

Lots of gluten free options! They have a nice gluten free menu! Very good seafood!

They have the largest GF menu I've ever seen. Their Shecrab soup is fanatic! Staff is very friendly and seem to be very aware of GF needs.

Large gf menu with some options not typically available to the gf crowd including Crab cakes! Attentive wait staff that took my gf status very seriously. Crab cake and she crab soup were both delicious! Be sure to try the spinach side too! Sad that we had no room left to to try the gf dessert options. Next time.
