I really, really wanted to be safe. I wanted a safe place to eat with family. Totally bombed. Within 30-40 minutes I am insanely ill. This was not a small cross contamination. No sure what they did not do, but they definitely made me sick. I had GF waffle, fruit, and 2 eggs. I CAN NEVER GO BACK. I don't play Russian roulette but once.
I stopped by for a takeout order, and I LOVED the Reuben on GF multi grain bread. The hostess took my order and understood the precautions that would need to be taken. She ensured that the kitchen was verbally notified in addition to noting it in the order. The Reuben was delicious, and I had no issues.
This is my very favorite place to the eat gluten free food I need due to my Celiac disease. They are very aware and cautious with allergies. I have been there many times, different days and different times of day…-and never had a single contamination. All the employees are super kind and attentive. I am so thankful to have such a nice place to eat gluten free and be safe! I love all the choices I have and look forward to my next visit!
Asked about GF menu with hostess who stated that the regular menu included GF and servers would all be knowledgeable (they work as a service team). Server who helped with the menu was great and informed me that all menu items could be made GF except for biscuits and gravy. The food was pretty good; the multigrain GF bread on the sandwich was not disappointing, and was more like bread than cardboard. They don’t have GF just to have it, but try to make it good too. I think that’s hard for a bread-based restaurant to do.
Lots of GF options and staff were very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!
I have been to this location a few times and it never disappoints. The wait staff is very aware of cross contamination and I have never gotten sick. The pancakes and breakfast potatoes are both amazing. The orange juice is fresh squeezed and they serve real maple syrup, none of that high fructose corn syrup crap. I have a hard time going anywhere else for breakfast because Famous Toastery has it all
Food was fresh. Had omelet and fruit and toast. Several choices for gf.
Menu states that there are gluten free options for most items (for an extra charge), which is really nice.
I let the server know that I was celiac and "allergic" to gluten. He made a note and assured me that they would take extra precautions which was better than the normal head nods I get at other places.
I ordered the BLT on GF toast and it was the first time having GF bread as I was recently diagnosed. It was really good and they made the bacon extra crispy like I asked. I also ordered the tomato bisque soup which I had to ask if it was GF, but it was also good.
The only negative, and why I took a star off was that they put a bag of soup crackers on the plate with my sandwich and soup. I just took it off and ate my food anyway because I hate causing a problem. It just makes me question how careful they were with cross contamination if they put crackers on the plate.
I am a silent celiac so I can't report if there actually was any cross contamination.
I was in town visiting, but I would go back again.
Stopped at this place on our way home to NH. Great food, great service. Lots of gluten free options for both breakfast and lunch. When I asked for a gluten free waffle they put it in as an allergy so it wouldn’t get cross contaminated. Will definitely be back the next time we come through this way.
Wow! This place is great. It may be a franchise, but feels like an upscale restaurant/bar with a hometown feel. I saw folks greeting the bartender and wait staff like they were old friends; upon inquiry, learned they are regular customers. We ate there on a Sunday afternoon-so it was pretty crowded with a 35 minute wait time quote-though it really was only about a 20 minute wait. I ordered egg salad on GF white toast and had fruit as my side. Left the restaurant with a full belly and no stomach ache! That’s a win for me. Best of all, the food was delicious. Breakfast and lunch place. We drive 20 minutes off I-81 to get to the Roanoke restaurant. It was worth the extra drive. Fresh squeezed on and Champaign… Tito’s Vodka…
Very cautious. Ate there twice while in town, breakfast then lunch. Both meals were great and no health issues.
Found this place on the app. We were passing thru on vacation. Got the waffle and it was amazing. I asked waiter about cross contamination. He went back and let cooks know and they washed the waffle maker. Will definitely stop by again if ever back in area!
Famous Toastery is amazing! Although kitchen space is shared (as dictated on the website), I am impressed with the precautions taken to prevent cross contamination. Food is carefully prepared, and all kitchen/wait staff are made aware of the customer in question. Staff were very knowledgeable and respectful of my gluten allergy, providing substitutes (bread, rolls) to meals and items prepared entirely gluten free (waffles, pancakes, french toast) Safety and comfort are of the upmost importance. I ordered the gluten free homestyle waffles, and they are to die for! I definitely reccomed this breakfast joint to all my celiac friends!
This is not celiac safe. Their website even warns: “While we offer gluten-free products and gluten-sensitive menu items, we are not a gluten-free environment. Our kitchen does not have a separate prep surface, cook tops, or equipment to ensure gluten particles do not come in contact with gluten-sensitive dishes. Chefs prep and cook to order in common areas, and menu items may come in contact with other food products.”
This place is Awesome!!! So many gluten free options. The strawberry and cream cheese french toast is amazing!!! The OJ is fresh squeezed and for those that don’t order this you would be missing out. It is absolutely delish!!!! I am sure everything is awesome so you really can’t go wrong. They even have organic ketchup and pure maple syrup!!!! Coffee is well above average and service is top notch!
This place is so awesome, I’m still sitting here eating while I review it. My husband and I got a omelette to split, it came with gf toast and potatoes and we ordered a gf pancake on the side. It came out on two plates, we each got a little omelette, a piece of toast, and potatoes with a huge pancake on the side. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 what is this life?!?
Definitely got glutened. It feels like way more than cross contamination
Very gluten friendly here, dedicated gf items on the menu as well as ability to make modifications! I love this spot, everything is delicious, they are friendly, and it’s a safe place for me to eat.
Great and safe option for breakfast. Make sure to specify an allergy and separate prep. Wonderful waffles and protein bowl!
ever since going gluten-free, I really have missed a good Reuben sandwich. I was so excited to go out to this restaurant when my husband asked me to lunch and saw how many options there were on the menu not just a plain old salad. I even saw that they had gluten-free wraps, maybe next time I will have that.
DO NOT EAT HERE! I knew it was a risk , and I didn’t listen to my instincts. Big mistake that I am currently paying for 😫. We had breakfast and even though they offer GF pancakes, waffles and French toast, They are not cooked on separate surfaces. The GF French toast is dredged in the same batter as the regular bread. When I asked if the waffle iron surface could be cleaned before making our waffles and we got a “they’ll do their best” and an eye roll. Wish I had gotten up and left at that point.
