Stumbled upon this place while in Salem October 2023 -they could alter most things on the menu to be safe & the waiters were very knowledgeable or honest if a few things couldn't be done or safe enough. No designated fryer. I had oysters, scallops, crab stuffed haddock & no issues.

I asked the host about safety and cross contamination upon arrival and was told they are very careful about keeping things separate when necessary and all items that can be made gluten free are marked on the menu - and there are a lot of options! When our server took our order, she asked about allergy/celiac and made a note about avoiding cross contamination when she entered the order in their system. The food was pretty good, although the bread they use is just okay and the corn tortillas are very dry and break apart quickly, so it didn’t seem as though they heated them before putting the fish taco ingredients in them.

the waitress made sure multiple times to confirm my celiac and stressed it to the kitchen which I really appreciated. The gf seafood paella was delicious! She even double checked the drink ingredients for me

Went here 3 nights in a row during my trip because the servers were so careful and the sushi was seriously the best I’ve ever had in my life! Never got sick! I tried sushi, the gluten free lobster roll, and the haddock that was stuffed with crab.

They have a lot listed as GF, but not much actually is, and what WAS available was awful. Fish tasted old and dry.

As of 2022, Sept, their menu has changed. Not safe- fries, breaded fish. Dedicated friers are GONE

Food 10/10, view 10/10, experience 10/10. Staff very knowledgable. TONS of gf options and all as fresh as you can get! I had sushi and curry seafood meal and it was fantastic. Recommend if you’re looking for a nice meal and to be treated like a gf king/ queen.

Great food and atmosphere. Great with allergies, menu indicates gf on many entrees. First thing the server asked was about allergies.

There is a special GF menu. Items on the regular menu can often be adapted to be made GF as well, so it's worth asking.
The service was excellent and the food was excellent.

Great location and good food! Can’t go wrong with good seafood. We ordered all the gluten free sushi rolls and they were pretty good! Can’t beat the view 🥰

Enjoyed the Raw Bar and an entree off the gluten free menu. Cornmeal encrusted sole with spinach and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! it was rainy so we sat inside by the window looking out at the marina. Wait staff and manager were very attentive and knowledgeable about Celiacs.

The staff was very knowledgable about gluten free concerns. A comprehensive gluten free menu and delicious meal. I felt very safe.

Some options - I had baked scallops and mashed potatoes (which were delicious). They also have Downeast cider on tap. I still would have liked a few more options.
Very small GF menu with salads and bunless sandwiches. The food was just okay even the non-GF menu.
Gone downhill. They just don't care. They need a new manager or something. It went from being one of my favorites to a place to avoid. 😩

Def not safe, was sick almost immediately after. Just because there is a GF menu (mostly salads), doesn't mean they understand gluten. Ordered Caesar w/ grilled salmon from their GF menu and specified no croutons. Of course the salad arrived with croutons. Sent back, no apology received. My friends ate without me since no one told us how long it would be, would it be a fresh order (it should have been!), etc. No explanation or apology by waitstaff or manager who eventually delivered the correct order. I assume they just plucked the croutons off instead of starting a fresh order. Will not be back!

If I could, I would give this restaurant no stars. I went with my mom last year to Finz the weekend before Halloween. I ordered the Fishermans Stew & several times check with the waiter & manager that the stew was prepared in a safe area, with no risk of cross contamination. Both states it would be completely safe. I will say the stew was delicious, but after a few bites I started to feel ill & got sick in the bathroom. When I came back I moved the stew around I noticed two long pieces of linguini. Evidentially, the stew and pasta are cooked right next to each other even though the stew is on the gluten free menu! We showed the waiter & he got the manager. Unfortunately, I was unable to talk to the manager, cause I was getting sick in the bathroom again. My mom said the manager said they were sorry and comped my meal. The ride home (4 hours) was horrible as was the next 5 days. I wrote to the restaurant & stated that perhaps they should mention on their menu that the stew is cooked next to the pasta so customers are aware of the high risk of cross contamination, since their staff didn't explain that (even when I asked). They never wrote back an answering email. My mom & I are going to Salem again in 2 weeks, but I sure won't be eating there.

Nice gluten free menu with a good selection. The staff were trained well and knew about Celiac and procedures needed. Had salmon, potatoes and veggies, and a piece of flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Delicious!

If you can afford to treat yourself, Finz is worth every cent. Generous portions. Prompt courteous service and a full gluten free menu from starters to dessert with a light island vibe.
We were visiting Salem and this restaurant came highly recommended. I was so excited they had a large gluten free menu. I had the black and white sesame tuna and it was delicious. Our waitress seemed knowledgable about the GF menu.

My family and I recently came into Finz for dinner on Monday night. Our one year old baby has celiac so we naturally asked for a gluten free menu. When the food comes out, there is a package of Joseph's pita bread on the plate, which touched everything on the hummus plate. Not only did we receive assurance that everything was gluten free but when we asked the waitress if she could get the chef to come speak to us, she told us that the chef was too busy. This was after she promised us that the entire dish was gluten free. Luckily we asked her to check with the chef. Mind you there were not one other customer in the dining area besides us and we made it a specific point to order the gluten free menu. This was also after one of your waitresses said the chowder was gluten free because it had bacon in it (really?!?) You need not offer a gluten free menu if you do not have the staff with the proper knowledge of the consequences that this could cause someone. Simply stating that you have a gluten free menu does not mean that you can tell folks that you have a gluten free menu.
Your wait staff need not answer questions that they do not know the answer to. You also need to educate yourselves on cross contamination and what "gluten-free" actually means.
Please remove the gluten free menu from your establishment until you educate yourselves what it means to be gluten free.
I will ensure that I post this on your yelp page and other gluten free websites.
Disappointed,
Tom

Had a nice sized gluten free menu. I got the seafood paella and my husband got the seafood stew so we could share. Large meals with plenty of flavor and piping hot. No room for dessert.
Roxanne our server was great in telling us about the meals.
Finz gluten free menu is extensive covering appetizers, salads, creative entrees, & desserts. The food is terrific & the outdoor eating area is nice offering shade or sun. One of the few places someone on a gluten free diet can enjoy a cocktail & appetizers & feel satisfied with the experience. When a seafood restaurant offers a gluten free New England clam chowder that is truly rich & thick, you will earn 5 stars.
