I’ve eaten at this location twice now. Staff are well educated, or at least know to ask for a manager if they aren’t 100%. Some items on the gf menu have higher chance of CC than others, so do your due diligence and ask questions. I’ve had the clam chowder both times and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Are here last night and it was awesome. They have a gluten free menu and understood the importance of cross contamination. I split the crab legs and peel and eat shrimp platter with my husband and it was filling and excellent.
They have a separate GF menu, most soups except gumbo are thickened with corn starch and not a roux, and the waiter was very friendly and helpful in checking with the chef about everything. I’d give this place 5/5 for good food and good service, but I got sick about an hour later. I don’t want to say it was definitely their food; I’m not sure. But if you are very sensitive I’d say go here with caution, ask lots of questions, and remind them about anything that could be questionable.
I really enjoyed my dish, but my husband's dish was kind of puny. I hit a huge seafood platter though that cost $34.99, but it was a really big meal. The waitress was only so so on her knowledge of gluten free food safety and prep, but they did have a real nice gluten free menu with a lot of options. I didn't feel restricted like with a lot of restaurants.
Per the manager: Gluten Friendly Menu, no dedicated food prep space, some food stuffs are prepackaged and pre-seasoned by out-sourced manufacturing facilities and so can not and are not guaranteed to be gluten free.
I would have to say I am quite pleased with my first experience there. They have a separate gluten free menu with lots of good options. The waiter didn't appear ignorant on the topic which was refreshing. Food came out at the same time as everyone else's food, and I can already tell that I did not get poisoned. Will definitely be back!
Staff were great and filled me with with much needed confidence with their knowledge of GF menu. Then delivered a side of bread before taking out my main meal with their non GF cornbread sitting tight on top of my grilled shrimp. Simply said oh sorry forgot to put it through as GF and asked if I wanted to have it ALL made from scratch,... like It was an over reaction
The staff was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make sure all ingredients were GF. They also have a GF menu and can make changes to specials to make GF. SO Happy with our experience! Highly recommend
They went above & beyond for me! I am not celiac so I had some fried foods - they made it special w/cornmeal only instead of a flour/cornmeal mix (they DO NOT have separate fryer). They also made my sides just for me to without the gluten ingredients. I'm very happy w/the selection & willingness of the staff. Thank you Juan Carlos!!!
The gluten free menu was readily available. The staff went out of their way to let me know what items on the daily special menu were gluten free and if not, how they could change them to accommodate if possible (like exchanging fried onions for grilled onions). I will definitely go back. Thank you.
Celiac friendly but the prices for what you get is a joke. Spent almost $14 for 6 pieces of shrimp the size of a quarter. My red beans and rice was all rice. Very disappointing. The food use to be way better. This is the place I always choose for special occasions but won't be back. Go to Hefner Grill. It is pricy but you get your money's worth.
As a Celiac, I always appreciate it when a restaurant has a dedicated gluten free menu. So this place at least has a dedicated menu. Are there a ton of options? No, there are not. But, my Celiac son and I found dishes to eat. What I don't appreciate, however, is when the restaurant puts gluten filled hush puppies on my gluten free plate or when they give my kid Ranch dressing that wasn't safe (thank goodness I asked). Just be careful if you eat here and question the server/manager if something doesn't look right!
You'll have to request the gluten-free menu at Fish city, but once you get your hands on it you'll find a boatload of fresh seafood treats. a beach party platter, for example, offers a mound of more than two pounds of alaskan snow crab, plus a pound of shrimp and andouille sausage. and don't be intimidated by the crawfish, the waiters are happy to give lessons in proper technique!
They have this garlic shrimp salad that I love. Their gluten-free menu has other choices, but this is my favorite. I'm inclined to say that they are celiac friendly for the most part, but I should probably try other items on the menu first.
Good selection, with many options to get grilled or blackened seafood, instead of fried. We've eaten here for years, and it's nice to find that they have a gf menu! Like the other review says, it can be noisy, if you don't go during off hours. That's just the style of place. There's a well-stocked bar on one side of the restaurant with multiple screens, almost invariably showing sports.
