My girlfriend has Celiac Disease and we often find it difficult to eat out. She has eaten at Five Guys 20 or more times and has never gotten sick. They have a procedure when you tell them you have a gluten allergy/Celiac. You can get your burger wrapped in lettuce or in a bowl with whatever toppings you want. Five Guys is great!
The staff was very knowledgeable about celiac disease. One person was assigned to complete my whole meal as to not cross contaminate. My burger was kept far from buns and they even wrapped it in lettuce for me. My burger and fries were placed in their own bag. Not only was the staff extremely careful but they were so kind.
They know how to make celiac safe food and seem to take celiac seriously. They have a dedicated fryer. No GF buns but they can serve you a burger in a bowl or lettuce wrapped. My only complaint is that one employee acted sort of annoyed with me confirming that they were going to change their gloves. The rest of the employees were so so kind though.
At first the server was unsure about a gluten allergy, so he grabbed a more experienced worker to talk to me. That man was so kind and explained their allergy protocol to me very well. He took the time to explain how everything is prepared and gave me an ingredient list/allergy menu to look at as well! They also have an allergy button at the register and take the proper precautions; changing gloves and separate from other meals etc.
Staff was very knowledgeable and assured me that precautions would be taken to prevent cross-contamination. I have eaten here multiple times and I’ve never had an issue. My stuff was bagged separately. Designated drier for French fries. They were very busy but managed to keep my meal safe!
Beware! Under new management that doesn't understand what gluten free is. They tried to tell my husband that all of their buns were gluten free. They DO NOT carry gluten free buns. Of course we already knew this but my husband was trying to find out just how much they understood about gluten free. Obviously zero!
My son who has Celiac has eaten safely there twice. They even bagged his separately, upon my request. No reactions after. Thankful for Five Guys. One of the only fast food places in our area he can have.
Ate here several times no issues. You can tell them at the counter of the allergy. It’s lettuce wrap. Fries are safe and dedicated fryer (nothing else in it)
The classic burger (2 patties) on a gluten-free bun was delicious. The fries are also GF, they use a dedicated fryer, and were equally delicious. The staff seem to be reasonably knowledgeable. This was my second visit, and will return my next time in town.
I had heard great things about Five Guys, but to my dismay, the assembler did not change his gloves, despite my telling them it was for my Celiac son. To their credit, they apologized and began making a new burger, but I ultimately had to bail, as they do not have a designated area to prepare orders, and the counter in which they were working was covered in crumbs from the buns.
The know how to handle gluten free and you can do a lettice wrap or just get your burger in a bowl. Next time I'll skip the lettuce wrap because it fell apart and I had to use a fork and knife anyway. Edit: I’ve eaten here a million times and never had a problem until today. Everyone working was very confused about allergies, but all I got was fries and I asked them to change their gloves so I figured it would be fine. It is not fine, I’ve been glutened.
Nima tested and approved my bacon cheeseburger lettuce wrap. I did not Nima test the fries, I felt comfortable enough not wasting a Nima pod on them. The cashiered turned around to the grill cooks to tell them it was an allergy.
Very friendly and helpful. We told the cashier that this was an "allergy order" and that my daughter was extremely sensitive to cross contamination. We asked that they change their gloves and prepare her food on a dedicated surface, and they were happy to accomodate. The cashier told me that two members of her family had Celiac, so she understood our precautions. The fries are made in a dedicated fryer. My daughter loved her lettuce-wrapped burger and fries, and had no reaction.
Love that fries are safe, wish they had a GF bun option.
UPDATE: I no longer recommend 5 guys. My son got horrible food poisoning from this location. Always mention gluten allergy when ordering. Regular fries are GF. You can get your burger lettuce wrapped or on top of a salad. Ate here 10+ times and never had a reaction.
We eat here frequently with no problems whatsoever! Even the fries and Cajun fries are safe. So so good. Clean place, fast service with a smile, and never a gluten issue even from cross contact.
Easy to eat gluten-free here and the food is delicious. The management and staff are well-trained. The minute they hear the words “gluten-free” from the customer, they change their gloves and are ready. You can get your burger in a lettuce wrap or in a foil tray; they don’t have gluten-free buns. The fries at gluten-free and nothing else goes into the fryer. The shakes can be gluten-free: just avoid cookie bits, etc. I eat there at least once a week, usually when I get a burger craving. Highly recommended.
I have had my 2nd bad experience with Five Guys. I have celiac disease. I went to Five Guys yesterday and ordered fries. I felt fine afterwards and throughout the day yesterday. But when I woke up this morning I can’t stop going to the bathroom. This exact scenario happened over the summer when I went to New York. I went to a Five Guys and ordered fries. Then throughout the day I felt fine. When I woke up the next morning. I couldn’t stop going to the bathroom. I am never eating at Five Guys again. I don’t think that my bathroom problems are due to anything else but the fries at Five Guys. The only things I ate yesterday after eating the fries were apples and ice cream, which were gluten free. Be very cautious about eating at this place if you have celiac disease.
So far so good. Just ate so results pending but I have to say I was impressed with clerk asking if there was an allergy and he yelled to cooks “allergy alert lettuce wrap” and I watched them change gloves and prepare mine on clean paper. Confirmed fryer is fries only and GF. It was divine but like I said- will update with how I feel in a bit 😬🙏🏻🤷♀️ Update! All is well!! ❤️
We love to eat here as a family! Burger on a lettuce wrap and French fries! Yum! They are great about telling kitchen staff if you have an allergy. Then they bag your order separately too. I’m sensitive and have never had an issue!
