Our server Lina was awesome! Being celiac is difficult, I saw the fried chicken sandwich on the menu and knew I had to have it.. Willing to eat the sandwich with no bread. They made my meal fully gluten free with gf bread, rice flour to fry the chicken in, and hand cut chips! It was delish!!! Would go back again!
Their GF menu is not as safe as they advertise. They don’t have a separate fryer so anything listed as fried is not safe even though they say there’s a GF option. The veggie burger was mushy and otherwise forgettable. I think they have udi’s white bread as a substitute for all sandwiches. Nice servers but again, the menu is actually very limited.
Had a great lunch here the other day. I informed the server that I had celiac and that I needed to avoid cross contact, he seemed a little iffy about the safety when I mentioned celiac but said he would talk to the kitchen for me and that most of the salads with the exception of the cornbread salad should be safe. I felt confident enough to order a gala salad with grilled salmon, the server assured me he would make a note that it was celiac and would speak to the kitchen to confirm that my choice was safe. Food was delicious and no reaction, but you do roll the dice at places with mixed kitchens. Good variety of GF items on the menu but I’m not sure how many of them could be truly safely prepared.
We ordered all GF so our server let us know that the chips were not celiac-friendly (I assumed that means shared fryer). At first the server told us the bread was from a bakery in Jax (which sparked our interest!) but then asked the kitchen and the answer was Udi’s. It was sliced sandwich bread and they do charge extra for GF bread on the sandwiches. I didn’t think that was easily marked on the menu.
Overall, lots of GF options which always makes it hard to choose! And I thought the drip coffee was notable.
VERY knowledgeable about celiac vs. gluten free. Very yummy too. The menu is clearly marked with “gf” and there are many options. I ordered the Steak Frites thinking the whole meal was safe, due to the “gf” and they had removed the fries when it came to me. When I asked the waitress about it - she said that was because of cross contamination. I was really grateful for the knowledge and care of the kitchen.
Overall very knowledgeable. Able to tell us what’s Gluten free and what’s Celiac safe right away. Very aware of cross contamination risks. No dedicated fryer but we still got the hummus with veggies and the meatloaf sandwich isn’t made with breadcrumbs so it was a safe choice and delicious.
We had the chicken and waffles and the biscuits and belly appetizer (all gluten free) and everything was delicious! They do not have a dedicated fryer, but I had no reaction after eating there. The waitress was very knowledgeable and provided recommendations on what was safe to order. Highly recommend!
Have now eaten there once for lunch and once for dinner. Excellent, personable, and very knowledgeable staff. Head chef is celiac herself and so the menu is full of GF options and many/most of the dishes are GF without any modifications. Hands down this is our favorite restaurant in St. Augustine and we didn’t have a single dish or cocktail that didn’t knock it right out of the park. If you want actually good GF food without the stress of second-guessing if it’s safe, this is the place. The fryer is not dedicated GF so I could not eat the chips BUT the staff was very up front about it.
I'm always pretty nervous eating here because of their lack of a dedicated gluten-free frier, but so far I've been okay. I've tried their fried chicken sandwich and their fried chicken and waffles, which are both pretty good. I've also had their summer seasonal vegetable soup, which I really enjoyed.
Not sure why the biscuits and gravy or fried green tomatoes are listed as gluten free. They told us if we are celiac the only thing that is safe is the salads. The salads were good but it was a real let down when we thought we were getting fried green tomato sandwich. I appreciate they told us beforehand however. We didn’t get sick from beet salad.
Love this place for dinner ONLY! The fried chicken sandwich, the chicken and waffles, the pork and waffles, the shrimp flat bread, the fried green tomatoes, and the chips and dip are all GF and delicious. They have a ton more GF options, like meatloaf, brisket, tuna… Lunch was a bust. I was most excited about the Cuban but it’s basically a pulled pork sandwich on GF sliced bread, barely toasted. The burger was dry. Would definitely skip for lunch but ate here twice for dinner!
So many yummy options here! I could’ve had any of the salads but decided on the Summer Quinoa salad with arugula, roasted sweet potatoes, pickled beets, cashews, carrots, feta and I added grilled salmon with the cilantro vinaigrette. It was so good, fresh and full of flavor and textures. Hubby had a Burger which looked good but was under cooked for him (ordered well.) Outdoor seating was dog friendly too. Server was very nice and knowledgeable too.
Went here on a trip with family here for lunch. Ordered the shrimp ban mi Po boy. They do not have a dedicated fryer so I got the shrimp grilled. Delicious! The 7 other people I was with are gluten eating and everyone enjoyed their meals! We all got something different and not one person didn’t finish their meal. Will definitely come back!
Outstanding! The chef has celiac, the menu is clearly marked with a ton of options, and our server was extremely knowledgeable. They do have GF fried items on the menu, but it is a shared fryer so not suitable for celiac. We all agreed the food was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend a reservation at least a day in advance, as we waited over an hour without one. I definitely recommend! (The biscuit and belly appetizer was a big win, and the non-celiac people loved the fried green tomatoes)
The Bay of Pigs sandwich was super tasty! I also love the Biscuit and Belly- that GF biscuit is amazing!
I was so excited for this place and they didn’t disappoint. I got takeout and ordered online and was able to mark it for celiac. While the fried chicken is technically GF, it’s a shared fryer and I was so glad they called me to ask if that was okay! I felt safe because of that. I ended up eating here for 4 meals because I felt so safe and had no issues. The food itself was incredible and arguable the best food I’ve had since having celiac
Fantastic experience at the Floridian. Lauren was an excellent waitress, very knowledgeable and helpful. Food was excellent. Four diners, two of which were gluten free both gf meals were great. Two non gf meals were enjoyed tremendously. Pulled pork and waffles was awesome. Wish I was staying longer in St. Augustine so I could come back. No stomach or intestinal trauma at all!!!
Lovely place. Staff are nice.
I told the waitress about my gluten allergy when ordering a meal that was confirmed gf (a plain burger with a bowl of salad with dressing on the side). My family was served their meal and she came out with a cheeseburger, toppings and a clearly not GF bun and the salad on the plate.
I mentioned how this isn’t my order since I have a gluten allergy. She apologized (could you imagine if I ate) and took it back.
She was very kind to bring me GF biscuits while I waited for my meal. My family was almost done eating their food when I saw my food and then they went away with it. I thought…hmmm must not be my food (one plain burger on a plate and a bowl of salad). A couple of minutes later she arrives with my food (it was my food) but with an additional plate of toppings that I didn’t ask for. Basically it was another mistake in which it was on the burger and this made my GF toast soggy and gross. I didn’t complain to her since I needed something other than bread. Didn’t like the burger but it was cooked well.
Basically I left hungry but my family was fed and the restaurant gave us a discount on the burger.
My family liked their meals a lot.
I am giving it 3 stars since my family liked it. For me, I give it 2 stars since the staff was nice but they served me a meal with gluten.
Although, many of the items are gf, like the fried chicken, they use a shared fryer, so it's not celiac safe. The food is pretty good, however I was disappointed in the biscuits & belly for $14.75. It says it's enough for a meal or to share, so our family of 4 ordered it as an appetizer (it's listed as an appetizer on the menu)...nope, it's 2 tiny gf biscuits and 2 1"x3" pcs of pork fat. I was not impressed with it, but overall the atmosphere is really cool.
Staff was very knowledgeable about all food sensitivities and safe food handling practices. Tried to order a Tito’s and soda and the bartender told me they distilled their own spirits and I hesitated and he immediately was like, it’s corn, gluten free. Mah dude knew 😂 Food was good and felt safe eating there. Did not get sick, went back once more during my work trip.
Absolutely the BEST restaurant experience we had while in St. Augustine. Everyone, and I mean everyone that worked there was knowledgable about Celiac disease. GF items are clearly marked. Fried items are not celiac safe, but there were so many options it really didn't matter. My 9 year old daughter who is usually disappointed in the GF menu wanted to write the waitress a note thanking her for such a yummy meal. The food is insanely good!! We will absolutely be back!
