Came to the area to go to sleepy hollow not realizing how mobbed it would be. Found this diner that was super accommodating! Burger bun is udis
I have been coming here since I was a little girl. A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with celiac disease, so I informed them about my allergy. Thankfully, they are very knowledgeable about gluten-free needs and cross-contamination. They prepare all their gluten-free dishes in a separate area to avoid any cross-contamination. They are extremely careful with gluten-free orders, and I totally recommend this place as celiac-safe
In terms of options, they have them and it’s amazing to see. From burgers, sandwiches, breads - they have it and it’s pretty good. To get a cheese/chicken quesadilla GF at a diner, is always a reason to celebrate.
However, my biggest issue is and has always been the pricing which highly deters me from going more often. I know that most reviews will focus on just the food experience but it’s important to note that we as GF people already tend to pay more and ever since they charged me $9 for 2 slices of Challah toast, I can’t bring myself to validate their business. If you got the money, go for it. If you’re going for reasonable, may want to drive a little further so it all depends on your preference.
Had a wonderful, worry free breakfast here. I ordered gluten free blueberry pancakes that were easily the best pancakes I've had since my diagnosis and going GF. They had GF sausages available, and almost all the menu could be made GF. My food came out with a GF tag on it. The wait staff was very familiar with the GF protocols. All the food was delicious and the coffee was yummy. Highly recommend.
I feel 100 safe eating here and I’m a Celiac sensitive to cross contact. The menu has gf options labeled & the menu states they can make almost anything gf. The server was totally aware of gf & it was like second nature to him. And the food came marked with gf toothpick stick thing to show my food was gf.
UPDATE 2024 - They now have gluten free bread crumbs. I have had gf chicken parm twice and it was AMAZING!
The owner's sister in law has Celiac. All precautions taken in the kitchen. Had gluten free pancakes - delicious!!! ** since my first review I have eaten here many times. Pasta, chicken salad club sandwich, grilled cheese, all gf and excellent. Never had a reaction!!
This diner was amazing! I don’t remember the last time I’ve been to a diner and been able to eat something besides a salad! They have bread, buns, wraps, pasta, French toast, cupcakes and so much more!! They have a whole page in the menu and then also have gluten free options throughout the menu. Will totally be coming back all the time!!
Wonderful experience! The owner stopped by to talk through how careful they are with GF items. My food had a little wooden flag on it! I got the chicken parm and it was amazing. They also have a bunch of breakfast options and a few types of GF bread. We’ll be going back soon!
I’ve been eating at Fountain Diner for over 20 years and when I found out 5 years ago I have Celiac it was recommended to me by several friends. It does not disappoint! They’ve not only got a great selection of GF menu items available but they can make almost anything into a gluten free item! They are very knowledgeable about cross contamination and celiac disease in their kitchen. Highly recommend when you want diner food :)
Absolute treat to eat safe gf food at a diner! Our waitress, Andrea, assured us that she’s been trained in allergy safety and set our minds at ease. My daughter said the gf pancakes were the best she’s ever had. 3 out of our party of 10 have celiac and we all enjoyed our meals. If we lived in town, we’d be here every weekend!
I ate here recently and was advised by the server that everything GF is made separately. He then also walked me through the menu as to what could be made GF, very helpful. I ordered an omelet with GF toast and had no problems. A diner is the one thing I really miss about going GF so I’m really happy to have found this place.
My kids and I are newly diagnosed with celiac and still learning the ropes of restaurant dining. Our waiter at Fountain Diner was patient and knowledgeable about our dietary needs. The restaurant is certified for food allergy safety and very well versed in avoiding cross contamination and the needs of gluten free diners. They have a very large menu and many items are able to be prepared gluten free (we had gf challah French toast, a gf quesadilla and a gf turkey burger). Very good fries in a dedicated fryer. Highly recommend this place. We will be back often!
TL;DR - Great staff, great food, and very safe.
I could write a book on how attentive and delicious this place was. Menu is clearly marked and the staff is beyond knowledgeable. We ordered the Texas burger which came with BBQ sauce, our server brought it out shortly after the meal was brought and said “we wanted to check that it was gluten free.” We also had the pancakes which were exceptional.
Gluten free pancakes were excellent; enough to take half home for next day. Disappointed outdoor area closed for lack of staffing but felt there was adequate distancing in my booth. Friendly service. I was given someone else’s check by mistake when I was ready to leave but that was rectified quickly.
Great presentation. The food was very well made and delicious. Very well minded for the average celiac with wonderful GF options, a dedicated fryer and friendly staff.
Sal the owner uses dedicated facilities for gluten free items, so no worries about cross contamination. The brand of rolls/wraps he uses are tasty too. Love it because so many of their items are gluten free. They are also extremely careful and take several precautions to keep us safe against COVID-19. Check it out!
I stop by for lunch here at least twice a month. Typical diner fare - by no Means gourmet dining but good for a quick breakfast or lunch. Spoke to manager and he told me he has a few celiacs in his family so they are very aware of GF requirements. They have a page in menu listing GF offerings - including french fries. I’ve tried the gf wraps and turkey burgers and haven’t been disappointed. The recently added gf English Muffins to their offerings. Also have cupcakes for dessert or if you just want to stop in for coffee and snack.
The time I went the food was really bad. My companion who is not gluten free ordered a steak and it was so bad . My food was prepared gluten free but it too was tasteless and just plain bad. I ate there many years prior and the food had been good. It has declined a lot. I just can't recommend it because fortunately there are so many better places.
