Had a fried chicken sandwich and fries, and my husband and I shared the mac & cheese appetizer. Everything was amazing! This is not a dedicated gluten free establishment, but most menu items are GF. They are very knowledgeable and gluten free dishes are marked with a gluten free flag.
They informed me that they use the same toaster for gf toast with the disclaimer “well everyone is fine that eats it”, I expected them to know protocols for celiac based on all these positive reviews. Menu didn’t offer a ton of options for breakfast that don’t involve toast.
Very nice. Outdoor tables available. Dogs allowed outdoors. Good coffee. Food is tasty. Service is friendly, and server was celiac.
Went back on a different day for dinner with a large party and sat inside. Such a cozy little restaurant. Most of the menu is gf, but the wheatavores were happy too. Good short ribs, mashed potatoes, salmon, sandwiches, kale salad, Mac and cheese, kids meals, cheesecake, carrot cake. Everyone was happy. We’ll be back.
95% of menu is gluten free, everything fried is GF, food was delicious and waitstaff excellent with noting allergy.
Most of the menu is gluten free although do ensure that you make the servers know that you are celiac. This warns the kitchen to be extra careful. The Korean chicken wings are to die for!! The coating is so crispy. The short rib is just delicious too, and melts in the mouth. Alas they were out of cheesecake, but that's fine as it gave me the chance to have the crème brulee. They also have gluten free beer. The servers are very knowledgeable. Just excellent!!!
they have a crazy good gluten free chicken sandwich. ton of gluten free, must try in nyc
Visited for breakfast on our first morning in New York, menu was amazing, lots of choice and plenty that is naturally gluten free. I had the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. Portions are huge so I ended up taking half of them away with me. Hubby had the chocolate chip pancakes, which comes with a scoop of ice cream. Delicious breakfast.
I had the fish and chips and it was quite good. It was a takeout order and didn’t discover until I got back to our room that the coleslaw was missing and they forgot to add utensils. So, I do have to ding them a bit for lack of attention. My husband had the potstickers and enjoyed them and the dipping sauce.
Such a good lunch! I got the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, and it was the closest thing I’ve had to a Chick-fil-A sandwich in years… but this was better. The rest of the family isn’t GF, and they enjoyed their food as well. We’d definitely eat here again.
Brought my two celiac daughters here before a dinner event down the street and they were in heaven. My husband and I had a couple apps as well - so good! We started with the spinach artichoke dip, and they had the fried chicken and waffles. So good, and my highly sensitive girl did not get sick. They do serve non-GF sandwiches and burgers, but prepare those dishes in a separate area of the kitchen.
Friedman’s was so so good and I really felt safe there. The place is small but has a super cute vibe, and everything on the menu sounds super good. I got the vegetable potsticker appetizer and the fried chicken sandwich with fries. These both tasted amazing and you really couldn’t tell they were gluten free.
Fantastic upscale bistro on Upper West Side. Menu has tons of GF options and servers very knowledgeable around celiac. We were a little worried when they brought plates out (with gluten meal stacked near GF dish), but they knew what they were doing. Dedicated fryer (or rather no gluten in any of their fryers!) yielded the most delicious fries and moist, crispy fried chicken. Highly recommend.
a MUST! Virtually everything is gluten free. One of the only places on the UWS we are confident enough to take our celiac daughter. so good.
Amazing food, great experience. I ate too much and don’t regret it at all.
I got the chicken and waffle, and it was amazing. The breading on the chicken was delightfully crispy, and combined with the habanero honey it was so good! The waffle itself was delicious, too, the cheese giving it a crispiness and depth of flavor that complimented the chicken. Definitely recommend!
Delish! I have celiac and my waiter was reassuring almost the whole menu could be made safely gf (except matzo ball soup)!! He said all of the gluten bread is kept separate and gf sandwiches and food has its own prep area. We ordered chicken wings, fries, brussel sprouts, Mac n cheese, and broccoli falafel. Nice big servings! We took plenty to go to reheat later. Lovely staff and great ambiance too. Didn't have to wait for a table on a Monday night. Thanks Friedmans!!!
I love this place. Things to know: there will be a wait for seating. Definitely get a reservation. Especially for brunch. Also, not a TON of vegan options, but enough. Not too overpriced and has great drinks. Good for every meal. A safe choice for a big group… everyone will find something they like. I believe it’s not dedicated GF, but the owner is GF and it’s very safe.
