Be very careful. I was served a gluten Reuben sandwich after ordering a GF one. The waiter assured me the order was correct however after having 2 bites I knew it contained wheat. The waiter was not very apologetic and they did not even offer to comp the dish. Unprofessional and dangerous place to eat. Food is tasty thou.

It’s true that almost the whole menu can be made GF. Dinner with my husband and daughter was delicious and carefree, thanks to the server’s careful consideration. She listened carefully to my concerns, but was knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross-contamination, so I was put at ease. My daughter, who is not Celiac, did not notice that her meal was GF, too (which helps me reduce CC at the table). Will return next time we’re in the area.

Honestly after reading these reviews I was superrrrr excited to try this on my NYC trip. However I was extremely disappointed. I got the fried chicken sandwich with fries. There was zerooooo flavor to the fried chicken. The bun was actually the highlight of the sandwich. Then the fries; had like no salt. And also lacked flavor.

I can’t say I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Yes, yes, definitely yes! You MUST come here! The Fried Mac and Cheese bites with the spicy Aioli is amazing and it’s something you rarely find anywhere else. Everything on the menu is either gluten free or can be made gluten free (except for the matzo ball soup) even the desserts! Atmosphere is great, service is great! It’s all great!

Fantastic for my half celiac family. Almost everything is GF or can be made GF including many hard to find / hard to trust items - fried mac and cheese bites, potstickers, French toast, pancakes, fries. All delivered with little Gluten Free toothpick flags. Staff was great and knowledgeable. I’m a non-celiac beer drinking economist (the place is named for the famous economist Milton Friedman) and they had me covered, too.

The staff is really knowledgeable about food allergies (I have intolerances to gluten and soy) and immediately the waiter knew what I could and couldn’t order. I had a delicious pastrami sandwich and their NY Style Cheesecake and it was absolutely delicious! Can’t wait to return.

Both myself and my daughter are Coeliac and ate here with no problems at all. The food was delicious, we ate here several times for breakfast and dinner and everything we asked for came gluten free, the lemon pancakes were amazing! Menu is completely gluten free!! I went for the butter milk fried chicken burger with sweet potato fries and an iced latte with caramel syrup. Latte was Devine! I also got the cookies to take away which was 3 small chocolate chip cookies that were hot. (Gooey, cakey, chewy GOODNESS!!) Food was equally as delicious and one of the nicest gluten free dishes I have! Group beside us got the pancakes which looked amazing! Would definitely recommend

Celiac friendly - zero bloating or fatigue. Menu is fully GF, and they can offer regular products to your fellow diners. Cheesecake, banana bread and choco chip cookies were all delicious!

April 2023 Update:

Friedman’s has both a fantastic and extensive gluten free brunch and dinner menu!! I have had the Apple cider mimosa in the fall, French fries, fried chicken, waffles, and pancakes. Delicious and large portions!!

Note that Friedman’s does not accept reservations but I’ve always been seated within 20 minutes at both brunch and dinner. Highly recommend!! Great location in proximity to Penn Station & Madison Square Garden.

Anything on the menu can be gluten free besides the Matzo Ball soup. They told me everything is safe, because the only gluten in the restaurant is bread. So all fried items are gluten free. I got the Lemon ricotta pancakes as a recommendation from the waiter. They were AMAZING!!!!! They came with a little pick indicating that they were gluten free. Even though it was full, the service was SO fast! Our food came out in about 15 minutes.

Literally everything can be made gluten free & it’s so good!! i had the potstickers & the tuna sandwich & you truly couldn’t tell the difference. Perfect to go with someone who isn’t GF too, my boyfriend got the burger and he said it was really good. They also have really good drinks!

Amazing (I am a symptomatic Coeliac)! Ate here multiple times and did not get sick at all!! They are excellent at telling you what you can and can’t have. Everything came out with a gluten free flag.

I even ate fried chicken! And fries! They have a separate fryer.

Pretty much copying my review from one of their other locations, because it's still true here. So good that I ate here and at one of their other locations during my trip. Very good about food allergies. It feels like they cater first to gluten free, then happen to have some gluten options. Such a wonderful change. I loved being able to share appetizers with a group of people and not be worried. They were also able to accommodate my other food allergies. Food came out with a gluten free flag. The food itself was delicious, and they have gluten free beer (glutenberg)! Even when in a rush, I ate confidently and did not get sick after. Please open one (or really more) of these in DC! For what it's worth, I have celiac disease and am very sensitive to cross contamination.

I will sing this restaurant’s praises for the rest of my life. It is SO GOOD. The gf pancakes are delicious, but stop for lunch/dinner and get the gf fried chicken and waffle. They have a dedicated fryer! You will not regret it!!!
