They have a gluten free menu and a dedicated fryer! Had a grilled fish (Halibut) on a GF bun (Udi) with no added charge. The sandwich was very good except the bun fell apart. Not a fan of Udi products because they do crumble. Fries and fish were very good!

Pleasantly surprised! There was a gluten free menu and the waitress stated she had celiac and could eat off their menu and not get sick. I had the grilled mahi sandwich on a gluten free bun with fries (their fries are cooked separately). It was delicious and I did not get sick!

Hello! I’m a fellow celiac and was very excited to try this place out! You have to ask for the separate gf menu but they have quite a few options and are very accommodating and reassuring about notifying the kitchen staff about cross contact. I had the chicken burger with fries (which is fried in a dedicated fryer)! I recommend this place highly plus the views to the ocean are so lovely!

This is one of our go-to places for a GF meal. They have a GF menu (you have to ask for it) and GF buns. My favorites include shrimp and grits and the wedge salad with grilled or blackened chicken but without onion straws. My husband loves the grouper sandwich on a GF bun. The fries are GF, not coated and fried in a separate fryer from the breaded items. Ask to be seated in Stephanie's section. She makes sure everything is GF for us because sometimes the kitchen messes up and doesn't give us GF buns. We always confirm with wait staff that the buns are GF because they are so good now it's hard to tell the difference.

They have GF buns and bread. The fries are not coated with anything. They will substitute GF bread in flatbread dishes.

In years past this place was great. Recently it seems to have gone downhill. The manager mentioned giving people buns with gluten on accident due to poor training and understaffing. They formerly had a gluten free menus but no longer do, and he made sure to mention how time consuming it was to look through the ingredients to see if a dish was gluten free. I asked about a dish. He checked on it, then returned to tell me it was not gluten free, and immediately left without giving me the chance to ask about another meal. I felt like he would have rather us left and that we were an inconvenience.
Also the only thing he said could guarantee was gluten free was the fries and they were soggy and cold.

To preface I am a local who has been going to this restaurant for several years. In the past, they used to be the only restaurant that was celiac friendly at the beach. Now, they have significantly gone downhill. At the peak of COVID, they removed their gluten free menu and told us to ask the server... Due to lack of knowledge, servers were unable to answer questions. Entrees that were originally gluten free such as the seafood jambalaya and shrimp and grits are now not. Something that really was a red flag was that they said the rice was not gluten free anymore. I ask you please use extreme caution now with Funky Pelican as they do not have your best interest in mind.

If I had celiac I wouldn’t trust this place. Asked host for GF menu she said they didn’t have one and to ask my server for options. When I asked my server (who has worked there for over 3 years) she said all she knew about was a gluten free bun and I could figure the rest out by looking at the menu. I ended up getting the gluten free bun with the grilled chicken sandwich and the bun fell apart in my hands. Not worth the money for the food or service received.

We had an outstanding gf meal here! Daughter with Celiac had a hot dog - no bun but fries!!!! They have a fryer just for French fries!!! Hubby had an impossible burger on a gf bun with the fries as well. They seemed well educated about gf and cross contamination and informed me that they are working on an updated gf menu. In the meantime, the servers can walk through the menu and provide reassuring recommendations.

Had an amazing time at the Funky Pelican. They have a separate multi-page gluten free menu with a ton of options. I opted for the fish sandwich because it seems to be incredibly difficult to find a GF fish sandwich. It was so delicious and so were the fries. The waitress had a lot going on but was quick and efficient. I have celiac but didn’t get sick, so I feel confident that my food was prepared safely. I would definitely return to Funky Pelican.

After reading the reviews on this app we decided to try the funky pelican for lunch. We called before going and the staff was unsure about any food allergy questions and put us on with a manager. She was immediately irritated upon answering the phone and laughed when we said we had questions about how they handle food allergies. We said that we had celiac and wanted to know how the gluten free food is prepared, she said they had a gluten free menu but take no cross contamination precautions and have no seperate prep space or area in the kitchen. They also do not have a dedicated fryer. We decided not to go there for lunch. Be very careful if you have celiac when eating here.

My favorite place to eat in this area! So far I’ve had the Shrimp Jambalaya & Haddock Sandwich and they were both the best version of either I’ve ever had! And GF fries with a beachfront view?! Can’t go wrong coming here.
The best dining experience since being diagnosed with Celiac disease. They are beyond knowledgeable, have dedicated fryers, and the best part is going and being able to go and eat out like a "normal person" at a place with a good atmosphere
Limited GF menu, but staff knew right away what I was going to ask when I started to ask about dedicated fryers and they are separate for the fries, which is great. Got the grilled fish sandwich and it was excellent. Highly recommend!

Full gluten free menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food is DELICIOUS!!
Yes
We have eaten here several times, Food is good, no reactions or bad experience. The waitstaff seems attentive about GF and there are decent choices. We keep it simple to be safe and appreciate a place to stop by as we cruise the coast on our travel.

I'm new to being gluten free/celiac as within the past few months. This restaurant was great. It was the first time I had a hamburger and fries since being diagnosed! They made me feel like a normal person again. They had a dedicated menu, and fryer. Also a great atmosphere! Its a new favorite place for me now on flagler beach!
Yes
Had an entire gluten free menu. Staff was very knowledgeable about being gluten free even enough to talk about a dedicated fryer. I got the chicken sandwich and had to ask to make sure it was gluten free because it looked so good and was so amazing. Fun environment and staff!
Yes
They have a very expansive GF menu with great options. I got a chicken sandwich and fries and it was delicious!! I recommend!

We love it here! They do have a gluten free menu, it looks small, but just about everything on the regular menu is available with modifications, all you need to do is ask. The first time we went the waitress, who also had to be gf, told me they have a dedicated fryer (at least for the fries, I'm not sure on the rest) and they even have gf breading for the fish and wonderful buns. My favorite is the pineapple pulled pork on a gf bun. It actually doesn't show on the gf menu but it is fine as long as you switch the bun. I tried wings one day too and they were great. We have been twice and never had an issue. They have great margaritas too, and deck seating by the ocean.
Be careful ordering here. The wings were on the gluten free menu, but they are cooked in the same fryer as everything else. Service is a little slow as well.
Yes
Great option for gluten free food in the area! I had a burger that was incredible. I only gave 4 stars because it's a bit noisy, but some people may like that, so if you do, it's 5 stars! Well worth the visit!
They have a GF menu. We all tried the Hot Wings & they were really yummy. I had the Shrimp & Grits, my husband had the Blackened Chicken, my son had a Hamburger with a GF Bun & my daughter had the Big Dog with no Bun. We all enjoyed the food & the beautiful view, would definitely come back.
They have a GF menu including GF buns but not sure if they have a dedicated prep area. Food is good but sometimes service is a little slow. But we aren't usually in any hurry at the beach anyway. One of only a few restaurants beachside that offers GF options so we've eaten there a few times
No
They have a GF menu that includes appetizers, entrees, and hamburgers/sandwiches on GF buns. Service, food, and atmosphere were great. My only hesitation was when I asked the host for a GF menu, he said everything on the regular menu with minor modifications. When I asked our server if this was true, she immediately ran and got the GF menu. Always verify! Would definitely eat there again!
Had broiled seafood platter. Manager came over to tell me all they're doing to accommodate gf. It's awesome. Food was fresh! They have gf buns for sandwiches too. Will return!
Yes
They just added a GF menu. But be sure to double check with wait staff as some items in the list are not GF and they needs to remove. I enjoyed the chicken wing appetizer, grilled wahoo, broccoli slaw and French fries. I had No reaction!
