Awesome! My tray was labeled with a GF sticker so I trust everyone in the kitchen was on the same page and followed appropriate safety measures. The sandwich was delicious and the bread did have dairy in it (for those who are also DF/vegan) but you should be able to get gf Mac n cheese with vegan cheese.
My husband and I swung by here for a quick lunch and we were in heaven. He got a regular patty melt and I got a GF grilled cheese where I was informed the tomato soup was also gluten free. Was very hearty and filling. Perfect place for a good quick bite that will fill your soul.
While I have no insight into kitchen safety precautions, I really appreciated the option for GF bread and the sticker on the tray to confirm the GF selection. The sandwiches were delicious and I liked the touchscreen ordering system.
Incorrect hours are posted on here. Make sure you’re checking Google as well as this app for hours of operation. I am visiting and drove across the city on a scooter to get some food and got here 10 minutes too late.
Sooooo delicious! GF grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, or grilled cheese burger! Can’t wait to go back!
They don’t mark which add ons / sides are gf on the menu and you have to order on a kiosk so I’d recommend not paying at the kiosk (select pay cashier) and making them confirm all your choices are GF. Sadly they refuse to put gf Mac and cheese on a gf grilled cheese even though they have both and they’ll do it for non-gf people 😡
Delicious. Lots of options. Order at kiosk and chose gluten free bread
This place was easy to get to from the Lincoln Memorial. Small restaurant with limited indoor seating. Staff were nice. You can order at the kiosk and mark what allergies you have or you can order in person at the register. I saw them wiping off the grill before they cooked our sandwiches. The food came out on a tray and has a GF sticker on the tray so there was no confusion with the gluten food. The sandwiches were good-not great. Some had a lot of spice. I didn’t have a reaction-so that was a plus. Not sure I’d pick this place again due to flavor but if you have a hankering for grilled cheese, I’d stop in! Oh…the lemonade was EXCELLENT!
Wonderful variety of grilled cheese. We had the Cuban, French onion, and truffle and were all excellent. Ordering is done on a kiosk that lets you specify the order is for an allergy. One week later and our sensitive Celiac gives it 5 stars
Such a great find! Service was amazing. Food was better. Gluten free bread/buns were available and all gf items were very clearly marked. Staff takes care to avoid cross contact. Best of all- there was ZERO additional charge for gf bread AND it was not the typical tiny slices! My celiac daughter asked to go back again tomorrow!!!
They had gluten free options and gluten free bread. They even made sure to not cut it for cross contamination. They gave us plastic knife set wrapped in plastic to cut on our own. We tried the gluten free pizza melt. The lemonade was good and tangy. The restaurant was relaxed and nicely air conditioned.
Excellent GF; Also had great luck with nut, dairy and egg allergies. Staff was knowlegable about allergies and got ingredients lists for us on items we were interested in. Chef reports that they are working on getting all the ingredients directly on the website. And, of course, an excellent grilled cheese and patty melt.
Outstanding! Very celiac safe - CC knowledgeable staff. Have both gluten and GF grilled cheese and Mac n cheese - just specify which and they will make to order. We LOVED both and wished they had a chain in our town. Highlight meal for sure!
I got the American specialty sandwich, which was American cheese, bacon, and tomato on gluten-free bread. It was absolutely delicious to the point where I questioned if the bread was actually gluten-free. highly recommend.
My daughter and I are Celiac and we really enjoyed the food here! The staff was very knowledgeable about all the ingredients, and they showed us all the protocol that they use to avoid cross contact. We had a ton of options, since most of the menu is or can be GF. (All of the grilled cheese options on the menu can also be made as patty melts.) Our food was fantastic and the GF bread was the same size as the glutinous bread, so that’s a bonus! The gluten eaters in our family also loved the food here.
Fantastic food. I saw the employees change gloves, use a different prep station, and use different equipment. Food came out labeled gluten free
Yum yum yum. Got a custom GC and tomato soup. Good for GF people and anyone just wanting a grilled cheese. Not sure if they have a separate space for the prep to prevent cross contamination. My sandwich was not cut in half, which means they are aware of the allergy.
I love the idea of a grilled cheese bar and the plethora of options and customizability of everything is super exciting! 🧀🥪
They have gluten-free bread and have a dedicated preparation space for the grilled cheese and patty melts.
You can also note allergies on your order at the kiosk. If you have any questions or concerns, the staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have.
I ended up getting two separate grilled cheeses because I was really hungry. The first was the barbecue chicken grilled cheese and I added bacon to it. I was worried that the jalapenos would be spicy, but they weren't at all! 🥓🌶
The second grilled cheese I got was to go and I got the truffle grilled cheese, it was so creamy and the mushrooms were absolutely delicious. 🍄
On top of both of those I got a lemonade and it's a house-made lemonade that isn't too sweet and isn't too tart 🍋
Last thing to note is that they have a gluten-free sticker that is also tamper safe! The placement isn't really related to tampering, but it is nice to have a flag that says that it is gluten free. As a suggestion: I think it would be smart if they put the sticker on the edge of the box near one of the openings. So that you know that if the package has been opened, the sticker will be torn and not the food has been tampered with. Otherwise, it is a great marker to know that your food is indeed gluten-free!
Mainly, I'm excited to go back and try more combinations out! Definitely recommend that you stop here next time you're in DC!
Delicious and they were conscious to change gloves looked like and avoid cross contamination
Got the pizza melt. A little too small for be a filling meal on its own but a yummy snack and not a bad price (no up charge for GF).
Was in the area and looking for a convenient, quick and safe lunch. When I walked in, I was a little nervous at first as you self order at a kiosk, but I double checked the safety protocol with an employee who proudly gave me a rundown of their cross contamination protocol and reassured me they took things seriously. I was able to order gluten free bread (with NO added surcharge!!) and add a gluten allergy to my order. When my order arrived there was also a gluten free label on my tray. I ordered the Mediterranean on GF bread and it was pretty tasty, and I did not get sick! Would come here again.
This was such a great experience! I ordered the pizza melt style gluten-free and my gluten free friend ordered the bacon jalapeño popper style. The pizza one which I had tasted just like a pizza! Not too cheesy, and not too saucy. The jalapeño popper style was great as well! The best thing about GCDC is that you can make any of the grilled cheeses gluten-free! It made a safe experience for us both. Definitely going to come back next time we are in the area.
I ate lunch here and so far (four hours later) feel totally fine. The kiosk ordering system made me a little nervous because there is nowhere to indicate any food allergy. So instead of paying at the kiosk I elected to pay the cashier, which allowed me to confirm with a person that my food would be subject to their allergen protocols. I got a no-frills grilled cheese with cheddar on gf bread that was super tasty. I also got the tomato soup side which was good as well, though a little thin. The sandwich was marked GF. Given the limited options in the immediate area I think this is a good safe choice.
You can get any of their menu items on GF bread, or build your own mac n cheese with GF noodles. Very impressed with the options! The tomato soup was AMAZING.
The mac n cheese tasted delicious and I was really excited to try it! The ordering system made me a little nervous (online only) but watching the staff they took precautions and changed gloves to keep it safe. My concern though was watching them afterwards while we were eating I watched the staff member use a gloved hand to make a toasted sandwich and then without changing went and refilled the stations with cheese, etc so definitely creating a cross contamination risk (unless it was gf bread)! The food was really nice but just given the nature of the operation and setup there’s definitely a cross contamination risk unfortunately!
Food was so so good. Easy on line ordering and the staff was great!
It was SO good. I haven’t had Mac and cheese in forever!
Kids were excited to get a GF grilled cheese and with so many options. DF cheese is offered as well. Order is placed through the website and not by an attendant/server (I’m always nervous about that when ordering GF - but worked fine in this case). Staff was very pleasant. Place was a little dirty though.
Yummy!
Clearly marked. Order anything with GF bread or pasta and they automatically implement CC protocol
So yummy!
Get the lemonade to drink.
My Celiac daughter just got glutened here. She got violently ill after eating the GF Mac & Cheese. It ruined her evening!
It’s was really good. Great selection for gluten free. The bread tasted good and was a fine texture but it was on the verge of falling apart at any moment (like any mediocre gluten free bread). I went around 2 on a Saturday and I wouldn’t describe it as fast service but that’s to be expected. There is no seperate gluten free menu but as far as I could tell anything you could order could be made gluten free (I didn’t look at the desserts).
Yummy but best for takeout. Very few counter seats. Crowded for lunch.
All of the Mac and cheese offerings are prepared separately (in whole portions only) in the morning before they open.
