GF pizza and the GF Bread are likely NOT SAFE for those with celiac disease because they’re cooked in the same oven as the gluten-containing pizza, on the same surface as the gluten containing pizza. Out waiter made a comment about how the pizza oven cooks at 500 degrees and would burn any residual gluten off, but that’s a misunderstanding of how gluten works, and any gluten than was incorporated into the GF dough while it was prepared in the same area as the gluten pizza would definitely not burn off in the oven.
So the staff wasn’t as knowledgeable as I would have liked them to be. Our waiter did have a good understanding of what menu items were GF, and she had the GF pasta boiled in separate water from other pasta at my request, so that was nice. Still, my whole experience was thrown off after the comment about gluten burning off in the pizza oven.
Waiter brought us gluten containing pizza after we asked repeatedly about gluten free options. Brought us soup with a piece of regular bread in it. They made it right quickly with the pizza, but blamed us for not letting him know…..Waiter told us they made the gluten free pasta in house, but I’m not sure that was true based on his subsequent recommendations of dishes that were all not available gluten free. Romantic, beautiful atmosphere, but not the best for those who are gluten free, and not at all for a celiac. The hour wait for our pizza would have been terrible with kids.
I enjoyed the food and experience. I am a sensitive celiac and did not get sick. I had their gf bread, which is a pretty chewy flatbread that reminded me of pizza crust. It was definitely tasty but not my favorite style of bread. All of their pasta and their pizzas can be modified to be gf. My husband and I both had some pasta and finished it off with a crème brûlée.
I have celiac and my experience here was amazing. The staff was all very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable about my allergy. They made gluten free bread for me, no cross contamination. They also showed me the options on the menu that could be made gluten free. There are plenty of options and it was delicious.
They seemed somewhat knowledgeable but I got my first red flag when they said they couldn’t guarantee that my meal would be completely GF. I asked if they use a separate area, wash the pan, different water, clean utensils ect. The waitress said yes to everything- but my meal was indeed contaminated as I tested it and it came up gluten found.
There was only one item on the whole menu marked GF. That was the $5 GF bread. Which was delicious and thankfully filling. They said they could do any pasta GF. I asked for the shrimp scampi. It looked yummy, but I was not able to eat it as gluten was detected in this dish. I’m so thankful for my Nima device!
My daughter and I have Celiac and had a great meal here. When we arrived I asked the horses about GF- she said they definitely could do Gf pasta and some other items, but for celiac not to eat the pizza or GF bread- they are cooked in their pizza oven which is a shared surface. Don was our server and he was fantastic!! When we sat down he checked that we wanted GF pasta, he went to have the kitchen start a fresh pot of water. I also don’t eat dairy, so he was able to help modify the clam appetizer to be GF/DF. Our pasta was fantastic and the other non GF family enjoyed their meal as well. Would definitely go back!!
This restaurant does an excellent job accommodating our needs. Separate pots/colanders for gluten free pasta. They made a special cream sauce without flour. The risotto is amazing. Met another Celiac while dining and she loves coming here. I saw another review with unfortunate food quality, but that must have been an exception. The food is wonderful and we have high expectations!
