Botero - fantastic sushi made with tamari and snow crab, not imitation crab. Enjoyed delicious spicy tuna rice, edamame, spicy tuna, California and ocean rolls. Very safe and knowledgeable. Delicious!
Olivine - normal pool service wasn’t happening when we’re there in the off season. So Olivine was available poolside for lunch. Marked GF so we got the Cobb salad with chicken, prawns and burrata. All delish.
Not cheap but worth it for celiac safe at the hotel!
Review for the luau: Most items served except for the rolls and desert were gluten free. The two of us in our group that were gluten free received separate plates of food. However there was some confusion with the wait staff, mixed signals on if we could eat the rest of the food that wasn’t served to us separately. Both of us felt fine after eating the meal but we didn’t end up eating much as we were weary about certain items.
Review for Loulu:
I had an açaí bowl here, which they were easily able to make gluten free as well as accommodate for my tree nut and peanut allergies. They assured me there would not be cross contamination. I did not get glutened here :) there are also a lot of prepackaged gluten free options in Loulu, which was nice for breakfast when we needed it during our stay.
Review for Botero:
Sushi was awesome, the server was knowledgeable and confirmed what was gluten free with the chef. The majority of the sushi served is gluten free (the ones that were not gluten free had imitation crab, while the gluten free rolls had snow crab). We had rainbow rolls, spicy tuna, tuna, and salmon rolls. They only serve tamari, so I did not need to worry about soy sauce. All of the rolls we had were amazing! I did not get glutened here :)
Review for poolside service:
Menu items marked gluten free and adjustments can be made to accommodate. Had the lobster salad sandwich on gluten free bread. I did have to track down a few people after it arrived to confirm it was gluten free (didn’t look like a normal gluten free bread), but was assured it was and didn’t end up sick
I was very impressed with my stay here. If you have an upcoming trip, ask to speak with chef Aaron or chef Luiz they will take care of you. They even come to your table for each meal to discuss what you’d like and even suggest things to try that can be safely made for celiac. They’ll prepare your meal themselves to ensure it’s safe and come deliver the meal as well. They have dedicated GF toasters but no fryer to my knowledge.
Would recommend going this route instead of ordering from normal staff if you can because not everyone is knowledgeable and there are some restaurants where cross contamination is heavy (wouldn’t recommend the pizza spot or the pool bar). The sushi bar in the lobby is mostly GF, rice GF, and they only use Tamari in the entire resort.
Great with Peanuts as well as they don’t use any in the resort.
The menus clearly indicate which items are GF (only a couple) and which can be prepared GF (many options). The servers took note of my Celiac and assured me that the Grand Wailea chefs and kitchen staff are very knowledgeable and careful about cross-contamination. My chicken tacos were delicious and filling (from the poolside Volcano Bar & Grill). Another day I had a sandwich on a very good GF bun (from Bistro Molokini). They served it without one of the sauces to make sure it was safe. There were multiple items that sounded good, and the kitchen does the necessary eliminations and/ or substitutions to make something GF. The bartenders let me see the drink mixer containers, and they came up as GF on my scanner. Since I never get symptoms, I can’t be 100% sure there was no minimal contamination, but I certainly felt safe enough. Prices are a little steep, but they always are at any Maui resort.
