Delicious GF chicken strips and GF fries! Wonderful to order ANYTHING on the menu! 😍 Have not had beer for years, their GF beer tastes just like I remember! Now a huge fan of a hazy beer! Can’t wait to go back here! Dined with friends who are not GF and they enjoyed food and beers!
So glad to finally make it in here all the way from New Mexico and especially after writing about James and GBB on my blog in 2022. James and his story is wonderful and what a great place. Staff was so nice too. We tasted a bunch of beer and bought some for my week in Oregon. The gf fried chicken from the kitchen Salvi PDX was amazing, that hot af sauce was certainly hot af.
Because many who have an auto-immune disease, celiac disease, or gluten allergies also have other food allergies, we brew our beer without soy or corn. We list the full ingredient list on the side of every can, and use only gluten-free malts and grains.
Our entire facility is dedicated gluten free. Nothing containing gluten is permitted or used on the premises, in the brewery or the kitchen.
If you haven't been here since pre-pandemic, note: the menu has changed. They now have a gluten free permanent pop up operating in their kitchen. Check their website for more info!
Complete pub feel!!! The entire pub is Gluten Free!!! Wonderful staff.
Very inclusive, all are welcome. No hate, just love.
Food options rotate often and are tasty! Food is provided by Salvi PDX and the owners are there often.
All the beer is Gluten Free and they make sure they have seasonal as well as the regulars.
I have been following Ground Breaker Brewery for so long and was very excited to finally have an opportunity to go visit. I was greeted by Anna who was so welcoming and made my visit even more enjoyable. I fell in love with the Oktoberfest Amber beer. Wished I had room in my suitcase to take a case home. The food however was not great. The nachos came out cold, I asked if they could heat it up and they did. It was going better but then I bit into a large chicken bone. Anna was gracious and removed the beer from my tab as I already paid for the nachos. I look forward to Coming back.
We have recently moved to Portland from an area with very little to offer in terms of GF.
I have hashimotos, not celiac, but this place has quickly become a favorite. We love the beers, and the food selection is unique and delicious at their attached restaurant.
You do have to order beer and food separately, as they’re two different businesses, but they’re simple and run a tight ship.
Bartenders are always friendly when we’re there, and bonus, the music is great if you like 90’s hip hop.
Edit to an initial review I wrote years ago. They completed changed during covid and since covid have not gone back to their usual food offerings. Post covid they have had different pop ups in their kitchen—one time it was New Cascadia Pizza, then Honey Butter Country fare came along, and now it has just been Salvi PDX for a while now. I miss the food from the actual Ground breaker cooks. I was a regular once a week and truly enjoyed going there. Now they seem to just offer pupusas and fried chicken.
100% GF establishment including Salvi PDX that operates a 100% GF kitchen with Salvadoran food!
I have to admit my review may be a little biased…I started drinking Groundbreaker Beer back when they were called Harvester (name changed due to a trademark conflict). I definitely owe my current state of good health to their gluten free beer as it helped me regain the 40 pounds of muscle mass I lost when I unknowingly became symptomatic with celiac disease. That being said, it was awesome to finally make a “pilgrimage” to the Groundbreaker Gastropub and drink their beer from the taps. The papusas were pretty good also but that is not why I was there. Anyhow, if you went symptomatic with celiac disease later in life like I did, you will definitely enjoy their beers. You can also take home 20 and 30 liter kegs or beer canned in the building. Thank you Groundbreaker for the awesome beers and I can’t wait to pick up a keg of Backyard Oasis when it becomes available!!
This place used to be amazing. I ordered several small beers. They all tasted the same. They used to have a great menu and table service. Now, no one greeted us on the way in, go up to order drinks, online to order food. 4 chciken strips was $18.50 including sauce. Bus yourself. 2 groups came and left because no one acknowledged them. Food was mediocre at best and the drink were nowhere near as good as they were a few years ago. Really a bummer.
I first visited Groundbreaker in 2021, and it’s remained a favorite of my husband’s in the years since. All beers are certified gluten-free, of course, and they have a light beer that he always craves. I am not the biggest beer fan but have loved their restaurant partnerships — we went last night for Nacho Week, and Salvi’s mole was delish. There are two canned ciders available, too, one from the folks across the street. I’ve found that one — a classic semi-sweet cider — to be less dry than I’d like, but still quite pleasant and refreshing, not overly sweet.
We've been here several times before and really enjoyed the food. It seems like they've sold the food part of their business to another company, and it's just not as good. I had nachos, since it was nacho week and part of it was cold. There just were very limited options as well. My husband did enjoy his pupusa, but we preferred their former menu and probably won't be back.
I cried coming to this place. We visited Portland partly for this place and it did not disappoint. They reassured me multiple times of its safety and the food was delicious. And the beer, was amazing. I've had some gluten free beers and none compare to this brewery. Holy smokes. I would move here for this place.
So great to have a dedicated GF brewery! My group did a flight and tried every beer. They were all great! We also ordered food which was sooo good! Fish and chips tasted liked regular fish and chips and also got papusa’s - mushroom, vegan and pork and cheese filled. Those were all really good as well. Would definitely return!
This place is really nice! Everything in here is GF. We also like how they said that gluten was strictly forbidden and wasn’t allowed in the restaurant. The food is also really nice. Everything at the bar is also GF, which was really nice. There were also non-alcoholic options for the drinks. The simplicity of this place is outstanding! We love it very much.
Fantastic beer and amazing food. I went with two non-gluten free people and they both agreed that they wouldn’t have been able to tell that either food or beer were gluten free if they didn’t know before hand. Fried chicken is out of this world good. Portions are huge.
Great place! Love the beer and the food is fun and tasty. Always crowded, but that's a good thing, right?
I'm a somewhat newly diagnosed celiac and had a week work trip to Portland recently. I went here the first day, the food and drink are both SO good, and I didn't get sick at all. So I ate (and drank) here two more times again during the trip, still never got sick, and thoroughly enjoyed everything there. The entire place is completely gluten free, and they also substituted in non-dairy cheese for me. I highly recommend going well out of your way to visit here! And my colleagues without gluten issues also loved everything!
The best staff, beer, food (shoutout SalviPDX) and atmosphere. My favorite GF spot in Portland!!
Delicious beer! The food is alright, so if you're coming here, come for the beer. My fried chicken was very yummy (slightly overbreaded & overcooked), husband's pupusas were bland. Beer gets a 10/10, and is worth the trip for that alone.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, Jacob! And thank you for visiting us. We are sorry the food wasn't to your liking
Absolutely amazing. Great staff and wonderful food! Nice to have a safe place to eat and drink. Not much a beer person but I love being able to kiss the hubby after a beer. The special was friend chicken and oh boy that was the first for me in 25 years. A must go!!!
We appreciate you so much! Thank you! We are so glad to be able to feed and beer you :)
Nice relaxed atmosphere! Amazing selection of beer(9 on tap)all GF. You can get a flight of them all to taste. My husband (non celiac) had one of the dark beers and said it was delicious, he wouldn’t have known it was gluten free. The food was great, all GF. El Salvadoran, I think. It’s was fun to be out and be able to try something different and not worry about getting sick. You order the food by QR code at your table. Food is by Salvi PDX but is all made on site. I got a 6 pack of beer to go as well. I will definitely be back.
There is no gluten allowed in this facility. it is dedicated gluten free, including the food.
The beer selection rotates and they have 9 fresh beers on tap, with many more available in cans to take home. They also do 25% off growler fills on Fridays! It is heaven. The beers are SO GOOD.
All good is 100% gluten free and vegan, so there’s no fear of contamination. Food was good, but the menu is very limited.
Incredibly surprised in a great way.
Beer was delicious. Good options for all styles and tastes.
Food provided by Honey Butter Country Fare. Limited menu - corn dog/bratwurst was only entree - but what they do, they do well. Side salad was simple and really tasty. And FUNNEL CAKE.
Definitely returning next time through Portland.
