I went to Hark cafe on my way home (closes in the afternoon and is quite far to get to if you work in downtown) when I left early one day. Being a dedicated Gf space I wanted to try this out as a closer-than-Sift alternative. Now they had decent options but I must say it is way overpriced! I spent almost $40 and the items were ok. A couple of the sweet items were really good so they get a pass. Their quiche definitely gets a big thumbs down! Overall, some people might like it but I found it more costly for the size of the items sold for some items.
We went to Hark! today and it was closed. Despite the website saying they were open when we checked it this morning, by the time we got there at around 12:30, it was closed. I don’t know if they had been open. According to the website, they weren’t supposed to be closed until later. Then I checked the website again later today and it said by appointment only. If you want to go here, you’d better call first. I’m not even sure what their status is. It’s too bad because their stuff is very good!
Hark's kitchen is dedicated celiac safe and gluten free. We bake everything fresh, from scratch, in-house. At this time we no longer are open for daily service but instead by appointment only for pre-order bakery pickups. Please visit our website for more information www.harkcafe.com
My partner and I stopped here twice in our 3 day trip to the cities because the food was so so good. It’s always nice to be able to order whatever you want at a restaurant without worrying about getting sick. I was partial to the chocolate and vanilla crème sandwich—I have a big sweet tooth and it just hit the spot. I ordered focaccia the second time visiting, and it was also amazing. Not to mention the atmosphere of the cafe is super cozy, and it wasn’t very busy either times we went there, so we felt very comfortable just sitting by the window and chatting for a while. I don’t think I’ll ever go to Minneapolis without stopping at Hark again. If you’re a sweets junkie like me, you won’t be disappointed.
This place was ok. I appreciated that it was all gluten free. The coffee drink I had as well as the pop tarts were really good. I tried a couple other things that weren’t stellar. I was a bit disappointed that these weren’t any real breakfast options. The bagels are only sold in frozen packages and there weren’t any other food items besides cookies and pop tarts. I would probably return for the pop tarts but look elsewhere if I wanted more to eat.
Very cute establishment with lots of options! Everything is GF and theres poptarts, cheescake, focaccia, coffee and THC drinks to name a few things. Some downsides: the bagels are frozen only and then dont warm them for you or have toppings, there is no almondmilk (only soy, coconut or oatmilk).
The food is delicious! The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Even though it is a dedicated gluten-free facility and also a dedicated Vegan facility, my options were limited because I am also allergic to coconut. I had the gumbo and it was amazing with just the right amount of spice.
Overall, we had a good experience here! We probably wouldn’t come back for the food, but the drinks and pastries we would absolutely return for. We ordered the flat bread and panelle fries. They were fine, just nothing special. The cocktails (specifically the dead of night and the sazerac) were amazing! We also split a pumpkin cheesecake and a chocolate vanilla crème sandwich, which also were wonderful. The service was fast and the staff were friendly. :) The pastries and food were a little pricey, but it is a non-tipping establishment as they automatically add a surcharge to each order. The drinks were well priced.
Unfortunately, this was the absolute worst dining experience I’ve had since being diagnosed 3.5 years ago. The food was terrible. The pancakes are described as fluffy. They were flat and doughy which I’m not sure how that’s possible since they were so thin. We left more than half our food on our plates. The frittata was terrible too. The bakery items looked so good but had obviously been refrigerated as they were very cold. I hate to leave negative reviews but this was awful. I uploaded pictures.
I dined at Hark twice during my work trip to Minneapolis and appreciated that the whole restaurant is gf (and vegan). I tried the jambalaya, summer grits, panelle fries, and arancini, all of which was very good (especially the grits). I also tried their “poptarts”, which were so good I went back and got more to take with me. Cute place either to be with friends or to bring a laptop/book. Only complaint is their rather restrictive hours - definitely check the days/times they’re open before heading over.
A lot of variety of options for gluten free and vegan making ordering stress free! Bakery items were a hit among the whole family (including those without celiac). Was disappointed that cinnamon rolls are only sold in winter. Some of the food was just okay like the cream cheese on the bagel and seasoning on some of the food but overall great texture for being gluten free and good selection.
Hark is always a pleasure. Best in the city, arguably better than soft fare i say. And anyone who gives negative reviews because they require vaccination status is just a delusional idiot and should have their review taken down because clearly they didn’t even eat here they just wanted to harass an innocent small business. Their toaster pastries are my particular favorite. We love you Hark <3
We go here every two weeks or so. It’s great because I’m celiac and my partner is vegan so we can quite literally get anything off the menu. It’s great for sweets and the bagels are nearly perfect. The only real “meh” thing is they usually offer an absurd amount of preserved citrus or rhubarb items. They seem to prefer bitter-heavy flavor profiles.
Hark is stellar - vegan and gluten free! I’ve tried their gluten free pop tart and enjoyed it quite a bit. Their bagel sandwiches are pretty good, though not something I go out of my way for. I’m excited for the day that I can sit in the café and leisurely enjoy people watching again. This café will likely become one of my favorite local spots.
100% celiac safe gluten free kitchen, bakery cafe with breakfast, brunch and lunch options.
As a celiac family who loves great food we were blown away with Hark this morning. The pop tarts and bagels are to die for. And not in a “pretty good for GF” way but in a “there is no way this is GF; it’s better than the original” kind of way. And the hot brunch items were also incredible. Super high quality food and awesome service. We will be back!
