I went here for lunch yesterday, it was delicious and I did not get sick. You can’t get fried chicken, but the grilled hot chicken tenders were still great. Most of the sides are labeled as GF, even the fries which actually are NOT gluten free. They told me that although the fries are marked, they’re made in a shared fryer.
When I ordered my food and told them I had celiac, they immediately told the employees preparing the food that mine was gluten free. However, I did notice that as they were making the baskets of food, they weren’t changing gloves. I got nervous since they could grab some fried chicken for someone else and then grab my food, so I asked them to change their gloves (and they did). I ended up ordering the hot grilled tenders, southern greens, and red skin potato salad.
Overall, the food was really good, I think this would just be up to your personal comfort level knowing the environment could easily introduce cross contamination.
I had a great time. The only chicken option is grilled, unbattered chicken tenders but it is pretty good. Make sure to tell them it’s an allergy or they might put the chicken on a slice of bread (they didn’t for me, but I had a friend who got the same thing but didn’t say allergy and got the slice of bread touching the chicken, had to have it remade). The grits aren’t that great but the beans are good.
A counter-order restaurant with a long line and big crowds, it's not the easiest place to make sure you're getting careful service. I think this might not be an ideal place for the more sensitive diners.
For us, we ordered the grilled chicken- and didn't realize we needed to ask for it not to be served on a piece of bread. We were able to remove and be fine, but more sensitive people would probably need to ask them to make a new order. It's a crazy busy place- the line just to order was 45 minutes, and then about 15 minutes to wait on the food- so that would not be a fun experience. We were also able to eat the fries, not from a dedicated fryer, with no issues, but if cross-contamination is a big concern, you would want to avoid them. The greens and beans and grits did not cause us any issues, but, again, those who have to be more careful would probably have to do a deeper dive. I did not feel like the ordering process was conducive for asking careful questions, and I doubt the staff is changing gloves or anything of that nature.
At the end of the day, there really weren't a ton of options and was a risky meal for us, even as low-sensitive as we both currently are. Not sure it's worth the risk, especially watching others in your party rave over their gluten-filled delicious meals. I understand the waffles are ridiculously delicious, not that I'll ever know. We all know that's just a part of life, but there are certain experience that makes it harder, and this restaurant kind of leaned that way for me.
If you just need a gluten-friendly meal, you could make this work. But if you are truly gluten free, I would take a few more precautions than we did, and you might find a pretty sparse menu. What I ate was delicious, but definitely I wouldn't say it was worth the wait like our non-Celiacs people thought.
I think the tenders were the only gluten free chicken option available but there were multiple sides and they were knowledgeable.
Not many choices for gluten free, however the staff was amazing. They were very clear about menu items and knew about gluten free. The fries are NOT gf…they added fried pickles to their menu which results in them using the same fryer for both fries and pickles. Several other sides were gluten free.
Had a safe and delicious meal at Hattie B’s. They have grilled hot tenders and many sides marked GF on the menu. I had the grits, coleslaw, and fries (dedicated fryer!) which were all amazing. The cashier was very knowledgeable about GF/cross-contamination and yelled to the kitchen about my order. Seemed like they had a system in place for GF which made me feel good. They have to make a whole new batch of sauce to dunk your tenders in to avoid cross contamination which makes them take a while to come out but I was happy to wait for a safe meal. The dipping sauces are all GF and tasty, and the lemonade was delicious. I was surprised to have such a great meal at a busy chain like this!
Hattie B’s in the Nashville airport went out of their way to prepare me grilled chicken tenders. The manager was great and took time to go back into the kitchen and make sure that everything was cleaned and gloves changed. The food is always amazing. I have eaten at their main restaurant in Nashville and haven’t ever had any problems. I highly recommend Hattie B’s hot chicken. He kept checking on me and was fantastic !!
My son was excited to try some “hot chicken” all be it grilled tenders.
We ordered and during the order said we had a celiac diagnosis, they noted the order and even yelled back to the cooking staff, “gluten free order.”
There are plenty of gluten free sides, my son chose the bacon cheddar grits and baked beans.
Chicken was perfect! The baked beans are ok, the grits are top notch!
We learned their French fries are in their own dedicated fryer as we left.
Delish spot if you’re looking for some chicken! They were only able to make the chicken strips GF (grilled, not fried), but it was tasty and juicy so I didn’t mind. There were many sides that were GF, but since I’m DF, I was limited to baked beans and a black eyed pea salad as a side. Both were just as you’d expect. I felt perfectly fine after my meal and appreciated the cashier mentioning my order was GF to the kitchen when put in!
Dining gluten free is a challenge. More so when the venue is popular. Hattie B's staff listened well, and made sure that GF food was prepared individually. I'm super sensitive and ate chicken tenders, potato salad, and cole slaw safely, yay! Fries are not quite celiac-safe but staff understood and advised well. Other gf options available too. Thanks, Hattie B's!
I asked for gluten free and that there could be no cross contamination. They told me that the grilled chicken breasts were gluten free, and they told me it was cooked separate than the gluten. So I was sure it would be good. But when I received it, it was on top of a piece of gluten bread! They obviously did not pay much attention to me mentioning my allergy.
